UV light can damage your nails in a number of ways. The most common is by causing the nails to become brittle and dry. This can lead to the nails breaking or chipping more easily. UV light can also cause the nails to yellow or discolor. In extreme cases, UV light can even cause the nails to separate from the nail bed.
You can't cure gel polish without UV light because the gel won't set without it. UV light is what causes the gel to harden and set, so without it, your gel manicure will never be fully cured.
You can't cure regular nail polish in a lamp. It needs to be a special UV or LED lamp made for curing gel nail polish.
A hair dryer can actually help to set your nail polish if you don't have time to wait for it to air dry. The warm air from the hair dryer will help to evaporate the solvents in the polish so that it can set faster. Just be sure to keep the hair dryer moving so that you don't overheat one spot on your nails.

This nail lamp is gorgeous! I had planned to get the exact same lamp as my friend, who also has a MelodySusie UV bulb model, but Amazon suggested this as a more recent model, and after doing some research, I discovered that LED nail lamps had essentially rendered traditional UV lamps obsolete. Traditional UV lamps take longer to dry gel polish than LED lamps, and unlike UV bulbs, which lose effectiveness over time and require replacement based on usage hours, LED lights never need to be changed. Additionally, almost all gel polishes work with both UV and LED light. So, armed with this knowledge, I choose to buy this model. I adore it. The on/off motion detect feature is fantastic! It's a cute little detail that is both practical and opulent. I adore the countdown display as well. Knowing how much time is left makes the time go by more quickly in my opinion, albeit I wish the numbers read in the direction of the person using the lamp rather than the other way around. Currently, when you have your own nails in the lamp, the timer display reads the numbers backwards.Overall, I'm extremely pleased with my purchase and am delighted I opted for it over the other model I had been borrowing from a buddy. When I first started working with resin, I chose UV as the curing method and used a cheap UV light similar to a flash light. However, it consumed batteries like candy and occasionally lacked the power necessary to completely cure the resin. So, after looking around, I discovered this tiny lamp.Given that the base plate can be removed, it can contain the majority of the items I can manufacture, and doing so has made UV glue repair of broken items possible. And yeah, I tried it on with both hands and both feet to check if I could fit, and I can:). The light utilized six AAA batteries, but it has a power supply, so you can stop wasting them. The HIGH setting increases the success rate of successful curing. I've seen that the resin that caused me problems with the hand-held light cured virtually perfectly with one 99 sec HIGH cycle.I'll caution you to careful how long or how frequently you run it. There was a warning on the instruction leaflet about using the device for more than 999 seconds at once. I'll second it — but only after a session of resin work lasting 30 to 60 minutes. The power supply becomes HOT when it cycles on and off for up to six times for 99 seconds. I now check it as I go; if it gets warm, I stop and unplug it to let it cool. It's not the most expensive lamp, but if I can handle it, I'd like it to continue working for a while. Additionally, unplugging it makes me feel calmer (I don't like leaving items like this plugged in while I'm not around - probably a little paranoid:)

This worked really well the few times I used it. My polish dries completely as predicted. It fit my feet perfectly, so I even used it on my toes. I learned how to dry my nails using a command hook and Blue Tak after watching a 77 Nails video on YouTube. This was a wonderful fit for 4 of the command hooks. Although it might have held 5, I didn't want to take a chance.

Except for the polishes, this came with everything I need to perform a gel manicure. It includes a lovely lamp that looks professional, a huge nail filer, a duo-head cuticle pusher, and ten clips for gel removers. I believe I did a fantastic job, and this lamp was helpful. I'm still figuring out which settings to use when and why. If you don't know, over- and under-curing can be a problem.

This review is provisionally favorable; but, I reserve the right to retract or alter it if the product continues to function flawlessly years after the review was written. (EDIT: A pleasant update is at the bottom of the post.)After an extremely irksome transaction with a nearby manicure salon where they performed shoddy work and skipped a step so my gels were coming off in two days, I bought this and got it yesterday. I asked myself, "How difficult can this be when my hands are steady?" Last night, I utilized the SunUV 24W LED lamp with the Gelish pH coat, base coat, polish, and top coat. This is a breakdown.It was quite simple to use this adorable little item. I cured each coat under the lamp for nearly two minutes to make sure because I wasn't sure the first time and didn't want to mess it up; next time, I'll try just 60 seconds and then maybe 30 to see. The small lights' warmth is undeniable; it's not hot, just warm enough to let you know it's functioning. I don't believe it has any "UV" components; I believe it is all LED, but I choose not to look at it. Since my thumb naturally points downward and the light is curved, I decided to do my thumbs individually because I wasn't sure if it would capture my entire thumbnail along with the other four fingers (edit: after 10 months having it now, I can say just put your whole hand in, it does all fingers and thumb equally at the same time).One peculiarity of the lamp was that after applying the top coat, it felt just a little bit like my nails were burning. No other layer felt like that at all! I had four chances to experience it—two sets of four fingers, two different thumbs—and each time it felt slightly strange for a few seconds before going away. It wasn't particularly uncomfortable and didn't seem to affect my skin at all, so I'm not sure what it signifies or even if I really care. I'll be back here to whine if all of my nails fall out in a few months. (edit: Lawrence's statement below was accurate; if you experience scorching, remove your hand for a moment, blow on it, and then reinsert it. It is only an early response, and it won't last.)Although it has only been one day, I am really happy with the way my nails appear and feel. They seem to be rock solid as they would be after a trip to the salon. Anyone complaining about sticky surfaces can check to see if they have fully cleaned their polished nails with alcohol. That is THE last step; failing to complete it will make it tacky. Until you do, you are not finished.EDIT: It's been five days, and despite some challenging housework, there have been no chips.EDIT 5/15/17 (after three months): I adore my tiny lamp! It really impressed me. So far, none of the bulbs have burned out, the timers and automatic features are still functioning flawlessly, and the effectiveness hasn't decreased. Even if it died tomorrow, I would still buy another one because the price was so low. I've already enjoyed months of enjoyment with gorgeous, salon-hard nails. Without having to leave my house to go to the salon, it's well worth it to have a little "me" time. I lay a towel on my bed and place a lamp over it, then I watch a movie and paint my nails at the same time. One of the nicest things I've most likely ever purchased on Amazon. I do think that 90 seconds is ideal and 60 seconds is the absolute minimum for greatest staying power. It continues to put out a weekly valiant effort. My weak, oily nails do occasionally peel around the one-week mark, but that was also how it was for me at salons. It is simple enough to paint a fresh nail after soaking the old one off. This works excellent with UV resin and has a USB plug. I've only used it for one test piece, but compared to other pieces I've made, the resin came out flawlessly in just 120 seconds, with no stickiness or gumminess. It comes in good condition and is big enough to fit your complete hand underneath if you're doing nails. If you set it for 60 or 120 seconds, a red light will indicate that it is in standby mode. Really excellent seller and goods. I'm grateful.
