Silt loam that is very tightly packed. I have twice completed the entire 3000 square foot rear yard. ( The first time, I found that running a sprinkler for a bit, allowing it to soak in, and then giving it another shot of water so it's extremely damp on top worked best for me. It hasn't bent or broken, and the plugs haven't gotten trapped in it either. I simply move forward whenever I come across gravel until I run out of it. If you try to drill holes in gravel, no metal tube will function properly.I properly irrigated my lawn before aerating it a second time. "Wetter is better," I discovered. It was simpler, took less effort, and moved along much more quickly.Every time I leave it sitting for more than a few minutes, I put it in a bucket of water with a few drops of dish detergent (to keep the mosquitos out of the water). The coating on the tubes deteriorates very quickly, and the business end has already developed some surface rust.
