My dog was saved, but he has a lot of negative behaviors and manners. She is a really obstinate Boxer/Lab mix. She made the mistake of pulling in her typical insane manner right away and quickly realized that was a terrible idea with this collar.The collar provides the dog a pinching feeling that intensifies the harder the dog pulls on the leash; it is not intended to harm or injure the dog. As a result, it forces them to constantly self-correct and discourages them from pulling too much.Does it bother my dog to wear it? My dog still gets quite thrilled to go on walks even though she can't pull as much as she used to, and she has no trouble wearing the collar. She is a very intelligent dog, and when she doesn't like anything, she lets us know. Although the collar can be painful for her when she is acting badly, she usually doesn't mind wearing it and doesn't avoid going for walks as a result.Overall, I give this collar five stars since it is nicely manufactured and has successfully stopped my dogs from tugging and misbehaving when out for walks. When my Labrador Retriever dog was just over 40 lbs. and 3 months old, I just recently bought this. I remember when I first got it. For it to fit properly, I had to take out two links. Because of the smaller gauge, it fit well and did not slide down his neck as much. I was given the larger gauge for a prior foster dog, but because of its weight, it kept sliding toward the base of his neck, which is not where it ought to be. They both function the same but without slipping, and I prefer this gauge over the larger one. The issue is that if you have a puppy that is developing quickly, you should be ready for him or her to be between sizes (links), and you will undoubtedly need to add another link around a week and a half later. My Labrador, who is now 5 months old and 65 lbs., is a Labrador. With all the links on it, this one-prong collar no longer suits him. I am content with this purchase, though, and will just keep buying the same collar with an extra prong so I can attach as many links as he grows. (Purchasing the extra links package is a waste of money because they only include around 3/4 extra links; instead, purchase an extra collar.)He does not yell or act irritated by it, which indicates that the collar is very successful at reducing his urge to pull. Because of proper usage, he is aware of me and knows I am in charge of our walks. He's a happy-go-lucky Labrador, so without this collar, he'll pull relentlessly to greet everyone and everything he sees (regardless of treats in my hand). This leads to a stressful situation where I am trying to calmly enjoy our walks and outings but yet I find myself attempting to get him to submit to me more than 70% of the time, which ends up being just plain unpleasant and not fun for me or him. I initially felt bad about using this but I've placed the prong collar around my own neck and husband's arm, and we both find that with little effort the pressure is annoying but doesn't hurt. Of course if I were a dog and trying to pull away then yes, the collar will pinch, but that should make the dog feel more fearful. This is a must-have for anyone looking to train their dog to walk nicely without pulling. I don't typically write product reviews, but I felt forced to for this one. For a moment, let's go backwards literally one day. Yesterday, after a 40-minute walk around the neighborhood with my 3-and-a-half-month-old bulldog, boy were my hands sore from all the dragging my dog was doing. As soon as I arrived home, I thought there must be a simpler way to train my puppy. After seeing a few videos, I discovered this prong collar being utilized online by numerous trainers. Naturally, I did further research since I was concerned that I would damage my dog if he tried to wriggle away. So last night, I purchased it after following my instincts. As many of them as your patience will allow, watch. Each trainer has their own own personality and methods for reinforcing desired behavior. With my dog, I discovered that it worked best to hold a rigid arm while gently looping the leash in my palm. I would gently jerk with merely my wrist when he tried to walk ahead of me or deviated off course. not my shoulder, elbow, or biceps. I only moved my wrist. I also discovered that I needed to often switch up my walking techniques in order to get my dog to pay attention to me. intermittently stopping, accelerating, decelerating, etc. I also wanted him to sit when we stopped, so every time we did, I gave him a gentle tap just before his tail. After a few failed attempts, he finally mastered the drill.I don't believe these collars are horrible overall. Instead, it clearly defines your expectations for your dog in terms he can comprehend. Without a doubt, this is the nicest thing I've ever bought for my dog.

Although I'm not a supporter of training dogs with collars like this, we had to use one for our expanding pitbull. Sadly, he has become too boisterous and pulls too hard for a conventional collar or harness. For walking, we matched this with a strong double-handled leash, and so far, the difference is striking. Using these collars has transformed walking our two husky/Alaskan malamute dogs! The prongs keep them walking at a rate that is comfortable for all of us by gently reminding them when they are tugging too hard (along with mild verbal reminders from us too, of course). We have only worn them for training purposes when out for walks, taking them off as soon as we arrive home. It would have been simpler to train them if we had discovered these when they were still puppies, though.
