Because my daughter requested a butterfly theme for her 7th birthday party, we purchased these. I used these to completely surround the sides and back of the covered picnic table area after renting a pavilion at a park. They were without a doubt my favorite ornament. Why? Because they require little preparation, in contrast to paper garlands and flowers. You simply go around and prick them in the earth as they are. Since they have a springy quality, a light breeze makes them appear to be flapping their wings. The stakes were OK in those locations as well when we were attentive, and when a few of them bent we simply straightened them out, no problem. It needed a little bit of attention to ensure that we didn't bend the stakes when we were poking them into regions with hard dirt.It was cool because there isn't much you can do to decorate a public park—there aren't many things you can attach things to, and there isn't much time to set it all up—but this was something that was really simple, contributed significantly to the theme, and effectively divided our party from the rest of the park by, if you get what I mean.They could easily withstand a party. Since I suspect there would be a butterfly party the following year, I don't sure what to do with the items I collected and brought home, but they are in excellent enough condition that it seems wasteful to toss them out. These zombie arm stakes make me laugh so hard. You must water the lawn and make holes in the ground beforehand because they are not particularly strong, but the effect is fantastic. I added a few zombie flamingos that were scuttling across the field of zombie arms lining the driveway, ready to pounce on unwary passersby. I might add a head or two next year.All of my guests and everyone in the area adored the outcome. The hands have a far better sense of realism than I had anticipated, with good skin-like texture and pale flesh tones. They do have seams on the sides, but that is really not a problem because you can simply turn them so that they face your driveway so that the seams are hidden (they don't really stand out as long as you are not directly on top of them, anyway). No one has had anything except praise for the seams, and you would have to walk around checking them very closely to truly identify any problems. Because the hands are hollow and constructed of a little flexible but generally rigid plastic, they shouldn't be packed under anything very heavy. This characteristic will save you money on shipping if you buy them online, but it also implies that they will deteriorate under the Southern California sun a little more quickly than if they were solid. However, I believe they will last for a considerable number of years. I have weighed the somewhat shorter expected lifespan against the lower cost of buying and shipping them, and I still believe they are a fair deal.
