No, SD cards do not last forever. They are subject to wear and tear like any other type of storage device, and eventually they will fail. However, you can extend their life by using them carefully and storing them properly.

Do SD cards need a case?

Most SD cards do not come with a case, but it is recommended that you invest in one if you plan on using your SD card frequently or transporting it often. Cases help to protect your SD card from being damaged by water, dust, or other elements.

How do I check the lifespan of my SD card?

You can check the lifespan of your SD card by looking at the number of write cycles it has. Memory Card Case - Fits up to 22x SD, SDHC, Micro SD, Mini SD and 4X CF - Holder with 22 Slots (8 Pages) - for Storage and Travel - Microfiber Cleaning Cloth and Labels Included Review:

So the main reason I wanted to get this was a place to store my SD cards like everyone else but I also wanted somewhere that could store my usb drives as well so I decided a "coin purse/bag" storage was the way to do it and this one works perfectly. I show a side shot at the end where you can see the usbs inside and I only have 2 but you could maybe squeeze in a 3rd and it doesn't mess with the shape at all once you close it. The two closed side pics (not sure if Amazon does a reverse order of pics posted) but the closer pic is with the usbs in and the further one shows it without. It only adds maybe a cm to the thickness (if that) when closed but it doesn't add much at all, and definitely doesn't seem to stretch it more than it's capable. At least with 2, can't say about adding a 3rd.This comes with a little screen cleaner that most of ECOFused stuff comes with from what I can tell. And 16(x2) name labels that look to be stickers that you can put onto the slots. Both of those fit inside and don't snag on the zipper, if you don't have anywhere else to store them. Finally there are 12 slots for sd cards/micro sd slots. I keep mine in their adapters. And 4 slots, 2 on each side that can hold the plastic holders for either a sd card or a micro sd card. Since I just got it I'm not sure how long it'll last but the material seems like it'll hold out pretty well especially if you have it in a bag. It seems like it might be able to resist water a bit too, say if it's raining but I can't say for sure and you definitely shouldn't soak it in water but for rain slick it might hold out fine.

Acuvar 24 Slots, SD/SDHC Memory Card Hard Plastic Cases Review:

These were just sent to me, and they seem to be exactly what I needed to keep track of those tiny SD cards that are so simple to misplace. The box has two sides, each of which can house six playing cards. The two sides can also be opened by a plastic hinge, though I'm not yet sure why. So you could store in a smaller space, I suppose? Each card door in the case has a label attached to it. These doors have plastic hinges and friction snaps to seal them. The plastic snaps and hinges are not likely to hold up to repeated usage over time, and I also detest how dark the plastic is, which makes it harder to read any writing you might have on the card itself. For these reasons, I am not giving it a full five stars. However, this won't issue if you utilize the external stick on labels. This is a great tiny case for the price, and you'll be glad you bought it if it turns out to be more sturdy than it first appears to be.

Kiorafoto Professional Water-Resistant Anti-Shock Holder Storage SD SDHC SDXC TF Memory Card Case Protector Cover with Carabiner for 12SD Cards & 12 Micro SD Cards Review:

I recently purchased another camera bag, and while most of the bags I've had in the past had dedicated SD card pockets, this bag did not. So, I tried looking for ways to keep my SD cards from just being loose in the bottom of one of my bag pockets.Pros:s- While researching, I noticed that most of the other SD card cases all seemed to have very flimsy hinges. Some of them are actually just plastic that you bend over and over again, hoping that it won't just snap. This case seemed to have the sturdiest hinge and construction (including weather resistance) (including weather resistance). I have not tested this much, but this case feels sturdy in the hand.s- What made the decision tough was all of the negative reviews saying that the SD cards didn't fit. I figured it was worth the $8 risk and went for it. All of the SD cards I own fit, and the micro SD cards as well. Now, maybe there is some variance, but I can assure you that you could get one that fits.Cons:s- Not much to speak of here, I do suppose that if you were to push the cards in too deep, they might be hard to remove, but I have had no trouble so far.s- One of the negatives of the case being sturdy is that it feels rather heavy for what it is. This is both good and bad, depending on how you look at it.Conclusion:sI can't be sure, but given that I will be keeping this inside of my bag, I don't see this falling apart any time soon. It really does feel a bit over-built for my use. If I needed another one, for this price, I would risk the possibility of getting a bad copy and returning it. With everything costing more these days, this may be the best $8 I've spent in a very long time.

Beeway Tough Water Shock Resistant Protector Memory Card Carrying Case Holder 24 Slots for SD SDHC SDXC and Micro SD TF with Storage Bag & Carabiner Review:

I currently have 9 microSD cards for my goPro and Phantom 3 that I used to store in the clear plastic containers that come with the cards. End result, started losing cards and losing track of what card had what data. This a godsend for anyone who has more than 3 microSD cards and is constantly swapping cards in and out of equipment. You can store up to 12 microSD cards into the microSD slots (the trick is to insert along the long edge first and then push down on the short edge to ensure it's securely in place) and 12 more normal SD cards (can fit another 12 microSD card if these are SD-microSD adapters) (can fit another 12 microSD card if these are SD-microSD adapters). The foam is REALLY REALLY firm, more like and open cell rubber than neoprene so is very secure to hold you cards in place. The case itself is very light and the exterior is quite solid, dropped six feet onto concrete without popping open. I end up clipping this to my dash and carry this around everywhere I go.Also, very useful for swapping cards between device as you end up with an extra sd card that needs to be put somewhere. Putting it into this case makes sure you won't lose it in your pocket or backpack. Tested the waterproof function in my sink, works fine, so it will protect your cards from normal rain, but I don't recommend going swimming with it. If you wanted to, you could pull the foam out of one half and store some cards/id in this case. Very versatile and works better than expected for the price.

Kiorafoto 12 Slots SD SDHC SDXC Card Holder Case Professional Water-Resistant Anti-Shock Memory Card Storage Protector Wallet with Carabiner Review:

Any photographer or videographer's equipment must include an SD card wallet. The construction appears to be very solid. Although they have a somewhat cheaper feel than previous Pelican card cases I have used, they are more than enough for the price and their intended use. One drawback, in my opinion, is that each slot is formed like the angled corner of an SD card. This allows for a snug fit, but it also prevents you from putting the cards back in "face down," which is crucial for long shoot days that involve several cards. The SD/Micro SD version of this case, which I also possess, allows you to insert the cards face down without losing any functionality. It is important to notice this feature.Overall, I'd highly suggest. They have worked wonderfully for me both personally and professionally.

Honsky Aluminum UHS-I SD Micro SD SDHC SDXC TF SecureDigital Memory Card Carrying Case Holder Organizer Box Keeper for Computer Camera Media Storage Organization, Silver Review:

1) provides good protection for Micro SD and SD Cards.2) Instead of requiring some sort of insert to hold the Micro SD cards in place, there are separate slots for the SD and Micro SD cards.3) Unless you're one of those individuals who must be able to view all of the SD cards and Micro SD cards in the case without taking any of them out, the Micro SD card slots are right below the SD card slots, which is good.4) SD and Micro SD cards are simple to insert into and remove from the container.Unfortunately, the case only has room for 8 SD cards and 8 Micro SD cards. If the case could hold additional SD Cards and Micro SD cards, it would be much better. The case is almost ideal for storing SD and Micro SD cards aside from that.

BoneView Weather-Resistant Storage Case for Trail Camera SD Memory Cards Review:

Excellent purchase. Was changing out the trail cams while utilizing little separate enclosures for each SD card. This may not sound like a big thing (and I suppose it's not really), but it is MUCH quicker and easier to find the card you need than it would be to look through 12 separate cases.Efficiency is key while trying to spend as little time as possible at each area to minimize human presence. Love this product, especially for the price. One criticism is that the lock feels a little fragile, but I've had similar thoughts about things I've used without problems for years previously. Therefore, it's not necessary to deduct a star for that since it has so far held up just fine.

NUOMI 15Pcs SD/SDHC Memory Card Case Holder, Standard SD Plastic Storage Boxes, Clear Compact Review:

These covers are completely appropriate, but they're not quite what I was anticipating. The casings have a tab-lock rather than simply snapping shut, and they are somewhat larger than an SD card. The SD card cases that are frequently used for retail packaging are thinner and smaller (less wasted space). This shouldn't be a big issue unless one is planning to store them in a small area. The material appears to be durable and of decent quality.
