As a veterinarian, I should probably disclaim that I know way too much about brushes and other grooming tools.Slicker brushes and I have always had a love-hate relationship. I love them because they're comfy and effective, but I HATE them because they're so difficult to clean without breaking the delicate bristles or bending them so that they puncture the animal.I now have a senior cat with lengthy hair who has twice had to undergo anesthesia for the removal of large hairballs. The last time, his Internal Medicine expert sent him a prescription for a haircut. We have therefore been undergoing a rigorous hair management regimen, although he detests being brushed. I therefore frequently switch out brushes and combs. My go-to device is the Furminator, however my biggest complaints with it are that the cat finds it uncomfortable (at times, it tugs on his skin excessively), and that even on the long-haired version, the blades nearly always fill with hair after each swipe. The blade is simple to clean, but it is challenging to do it while holding a wriggling, irritated cat in one hand. But with every swipe, it unquestionably removes the most undercoat and shed hair.While still removing a respectable amount of lost hair, this brush is 10 times more comfortable for my cat. Cleaning it is AMAZING – all you have to do is hit the button, pull the hair off the pad, and it doesn't fill up until about halfway through brushing. Although it doesn't remove as much hair as the Furminator, the fact that he doesn't get irritated right away allows me to brush for longer and provide him a more pleasant experience.

I wasn't certain about this cat brush. My old nylon brush worked okay but it was difficult to clean and it took a while to brush the cat, so I decided to give this self-cleaning brush a try because I have a very fluffy white calico who likes to be brushed every day. Glad I did.This brush gets great reviews from the calico, and it removes fur faster and with less effort than my previous nylon pet brush. The wire bristles are not as stiff as I initially thought they may be. The cat had some raw places for months when we adopted her two years ago, according to the SPCA, who said that some jerk had spilled battery acid on her. Prior to adoption, we had to foster her for a few weeks. The places eventually healed, but the fur never returned; today, it is covered in very short, downy white fur that is only about 1/4" long. I was worried that this wire brush would aggravate those spots, but as long as I gently brush, it doesn't matter.The brush is very easy to clean with the push of a button and soft on the places with short fur, therefore for me and my cat, it gets five stars. I'm going to use a REAL hardware store wire brush on anyone I ever see treating an animal in that way.

I've tried a lot of brushes, but this one is the most effective. Our long-haired cat asks for his daily combing and will stretch his neck by lying on his side, which he particularly appreciates. There is enough room for this brush to fit underneath.The little plastic nobs on the end of each brush eventually fall out with frequent use, and we use this so frequently that we've gone through three of them in three years. When that occurs, it doesn't pick up as much loose hair and it seems like the bristle ends are a little bit too harsh. Additionally, our cat gets tired of brushing much more quickly. But because they are so cheap, we just keep getting new ones. Since they are getting harder to find, I hope Amazon keeps selling them.

Our five-year-old, 90-pound Labradoodle. He adores being brushed, but only with brushes with non-pointy wire bristles. He had one like this that he liked when we adopted him, but it eventually broke. I acquired it so I could more comfortably brush my two Maine Coonhounds and one shorthair cat because the brush I had was really unpleasant to use and would give my hand cramps. How many brushes I had to purchase before I eventually found the appropriate one astounded me. The ideal brush is this one. The skin of my maltipoos reacts well to this brush. As I brush them, they basically do nothing except sit. But nothing is flawless. The difficulty of cleaning this brush is the sole drawback. Because I don't want to damage the bristle tips, I won't use a comb on it. But I'm confident that I'll find a solution.You all need to understand why the brush is angled. At home, I have a variety of brushes. I have a senior short-haired cat who struggles to maintain his thick coat because he is getting older. He was beginning to develop little mats, and none of the various brushes I had at home were able to thin out his coat. I applied this on him, and it's fantastic!! I hadn't given my cats any new toys to play with in a while, but I figured this one could tempt my boy cat, who likes to use my paper towel roll to scratch his beard, off my counter. Both of our rescue kitties adore the "Puurfect Arch" item I recently purchased. It's acceptable that they primarily use it to scratch their cheeks rather than rub their bodies against it. But I noticed that they were consistently pressing their bodies' sides against the coffee table's leg. Then this self-groomer appeared, and WOW, I immediately thought, "What an excellent idea."It makes sense to test it at the pricing. The first thing I observed when I received my sample was that the manufacturer had made the box into a plaything rather than a simple discard. You know cats, they go crazy playing in and around the shipping boxes as soon as Amazon delivers to my house. Cut a piece of the "sardine can" and place a goodie inside for the cat to explore—this is a sweet suggestion.When it comes to the actual product inside, it isn't flashy but it appears to have been manufactured well enough for its purpose. It doesn't take much to figure out how to use it, even if the directions on the box are rather simple (and hence useless).TIPSHere are some pointers I discovered when setting it up and utilizing it.1. It can be attached using screws or the accompanying double-stick tape (not included). I made no decision. The rationale behind this is because if you mount it at cat height, you will need to lie on the ground in order to remove the brush or cover to add catnip inside of it or to clean it. Instead, I attached it to the leg of the coffee table using Velcro so that I could simply take it all apart. It makes cleaning and adding catnip much simpler. Screws, in my opinion, would be a terrible idea (and unnecessary).2. Mounting it can be done in a "proper" or "wrong" fashion. The seller's picture of the product on this page differs somewhat from the actual thing. There is a tiny grill opening to let the catnip's aroma escape, as you can see in my photo. Catnip spilled out all over the floor when I originally mounted it with the grill down. It works considerably better if you mount it with the grill on top.3. As you observe your cats scratch, as a tip, experiment with various mounting heights. I did this by folding some masking tape so that it was double-sided, adhering the Self Groomer to the table leg temporarily, and then mounting it at the height that my cats liked best using Velcro strips.The design is fairly fantastic, but I would advise making the two snaps that keep the brush in place a little tougher for their next generation. As the brush is currently constructed, the side-to-side scraping action that cats use to scratch their bodies can separate the brush component from the holder section. Cats can be quite aggressive when doing so. Although it's not a major issue, the snap could be stronger.Five stars from my cats. After I placed it, one of them started rubbing her cheeks after only 30 seconds. They exclaim, "WOW!"
