I enjoy music a little bit; for a while, I studied the piano, and more recently, the ukulele. I bought the combo pack, the 10 key one for my four-year-old, and the 17 key one for my eight-year-old. I'm not sure if they handled these when they first got them (as kids frequently do), but the next day, when we looked more closely, they were VERY out of tune. The directions suggest using a chromatic app. functions perfectly, but I wasn't sure what all the numbers next to the letters represented. I came to this conclusion after doing a lot of research online, and since twinkle twinkle now sounds natural, I believe I did it correctly. In addition, when tuning, I had to touch all but maybe two keys.When you strike C again (on the left side of the middle of the 17 kalimbas), it changes to C5, then D5, etc. The middle note is C4, which is the same as the middle C on a piano. When the chromatic software instructs you to tune up, hit the bottom with a hammer; when it instructs you to tune down, whack the top. Once I realized this, tuning became quite simple for me. Another piece of advice is to place yourself in a very calm space and aim your phone's microphone as closely as you can to the hole. Hope this was useful.

I must confess. Donner Kalimba has really made an impression on me. I first got the one with the notes inscribed on the keys. By avoiding the need to cut the note sticker and apply it to each key, I can save time. The fact that the notes were inscribed on the keys is incredibly cool!Second, I bought a kalimba made of gecko mahagony and gecko koa wood. Due to the keys not being tuned like the Donner Kalimba, I am not entirely delighted with the Gecko brand. But I did tune it using the program they recommended, and their Kalimba was also fantastic (not trying to bash Gecko brand). I also have a number of Kalimbas from different brands, so I kind of knew what I was looking for in one.The Donner Kalimba's finish, in my opinion, is solid. Additionally, it differs from the Gecko brand because the side of the Kalimba has two carved grooves that make it simpler to hold. Even so, the Gecko brand isn't all that horrible. I hope Donner would finish the product with a polyurethane coating like Gecko.This purchase can be summed up in one word: one of the best Kalimbas available. The entire Kalimba is fantastic! Quality screams throughout, from the construction to the sound! If only Donner produced a Koa (acai) wood replica, I would not think twice about buying that as well. Without a doubt, I'll purchase a few more to give as holiday gifts. I appreciate Amazon Prime's same-day delivery.
