We've now bought a second set of wooden magnetic dress-up figurines. For our grandsons, the first one was a boy. They adored the numerous clothes we have for the various uniforms; they have been around for a while and are still in excellent condition. These new ones, which are for the granddaughters, will no doubt be cherished just as much. The absence of a storage container is my greatest gripe; I used a ziplock gallon bag to keep the boys' pieces together, but after losing a few, I knew this was not the best course of action. I'm having my husband construct a lid that can attach to the original's robust wooden holder at the bottom and latch onto it with hinges to keep it closed when not in use and make it simpler to store. I assume Melissa and Doug decided against paying the extra money for a lid of this kind in order to keep costs low, and I can respect that.

My two-year-old granddaughter has been doing puzzles on my iPad for a while, so she is familiar with the concept. I felt this would be a perfect first puzzle for her because it would provide her practical experience. However, she only wants to use "happy" Minnie and occasionally "winking" (or goofy) Minnie because she really loves putting the pieces together to outfit Minnie! She also likes taking the pieces out and putting them back in the plastic tray. She wants to throw the pieces because she's only two years old, and on the first day of play, she succeeded in getting one piece out of my grasp. She will play with these for about 45 minutes at a time, which is a lovely reprieve from all of her running for me. With or without the plastic tray, all 18 pieces fit inside the box, which also holds the puzzle frame. If you wish to carry the toy with you, two rubber bands around the box and top do a wonderful job of keeping the top in place.Like most Melissa and Doug toys, this one is beautifully made and made to last, so I'm really pleased with my purchase. A terrific toy for the money, too. This puzzle, which I assume is intended for children aged three and above, is one that I feel comfortable letting my granddaughter play with because she isn't putting it in her mouth. Use your judgment, though, as every child is unique. These tiny puzzles are adorable little "thinking of you" surprises or add-on gifts, so I'll be buying more of these.

Because the video on Amazon displays the dark pink stand (bottom right corner of tray) and states that you can slip her in and take her with you, I am only giving it four instead of five stars. Since the Nina Ballerina does not fit very well, I find it really difficult to complete this. She tumbled on the floor and her clothing fell off when we tried to carry her from the kitchen table to the living room after putting her in. Therefore, while having the ability to stand her up in the stand is a good bonus, it is quite unstable, and if you move about while she is in the stand, she will not stay. To make the stand more stable, perhaps they should add some sides. Now that I know she will fall, I can hold her in as an adult while I move around, but my 3-year-old is unable to and no longer wants to use the stand (bummer). Apart than that, she hasn't put it down since we opened it, and I really like it.

You'll keep buying more Melissa and Doug toys because of their excellent quality. They make excellent presents. If you're a grandma like me, you'll enjoy watching your grandchildren's faces light up as they play with their gifts. I've bought a lot of Melissa and Doug toys, and every time I get one, I'm astonished by how well it's been made. They obviously give these toys a lot of thought and care, as evidenced by their attention to detail. They will give kids hours of entertainment, I can tell you. I'll admit that once I called Melissa and Doug's corporate office to voice my concerns about their merchandise as well as a recommendation for a potential new product, and I received a respectful response and a sincere thank you for my ideas. If you're curious about the suggestion I made, it goes like this: Every time I receive an item, I open the box and am astonished by the quality and attention to detail. However, when I go to store the item, there is typically nothing to keep the pieces in the lovely hardwood box that is designed for the toy. I propose that the box have a slide-in or snap-on solid plastic lid. Ultimately, I'm forced to place all the fragments in a plastic baggie. Everything should be kept in the gorgeous boxes it comes in with the toy. No mother wants to have to search through the toy bin for 50 different objects to play dress up, etc. I sincerely hope they address this.

For my daughter, who is turning 5 and will be 6 this year, I bought this over the summer of 2016 for her birthday vacation to Disney World over the Fourth of July. Let me tell you that this is a fantastic item for any occasion, but particularly long vehicle drives. Since we are in New England, traveling by car to Florida takes a long time. She enjoyed this the most out of all the things we bought and brought with us to keep our daughter occupied. For the money, it offers excellent quality and value. The set includes two princesses and a ton of accessories. Each piece is magnetic and crafted of solid, real wood. The colors are vivid and striking. It has remarkable detailing. Additionally, there was no peeling or fading, even after drinks were poured on them and they were kept inside our van in Orlando's sweltering 101 degree heat. We've had it for almost 7 months, and even though we play with it virtually every day, it still looks brand new. There is no doubt that this is of high quality. In the near future, I intend to acquire more Melissa
