I've just finished setting up a full water filtration system for the entire house. I solely utilized housings and filters from Pentek. I'm pleased with how well everything came together and performed on my system. The breakdown of every component I used in my system is provided here. I spent a lot of time investigating what works and discovered that understanding the purpose of each Pentek filter wasn't simple. The intention was to decrease some silt, iron buildup from rusted iron pipes, and chemical flavor. To remove rust and debris from my galvanized pipes, I placed two of these 1/2-size filters under my kitchen sink. The particles built up in the plastic filter screens in the faucet, and the stripped fine gage plastic threads on the faucet aerator and faucet spout caused the faucet to break. In order to ensure the new faucet would last, I made the decision to install two Pentek 3/8" 1/2-height filters in the supply lines. Ahead of the filters, I also fitted two ball valves, and I bought two brackets to mount the filters to the side of the cabinet. To reduce pressure loss, I opted for the 3/8" filter housing rather than the more common 1/4" housing. Two words of wisdom: It will be much simpler to maintain your filter if you get a filter wrench and a tube of silicone grease that has been authorized for use with potable water.Additionally, I invested in a sizable number of inexpensive coarse polypropylene filters.The plan has executed flawlessly. Despite not being designed for hot water, the filter housing has performed admirably with 120 degree water. The product's quality and effectiveness have impressed me.

These fit my Big Blue Pentek filters perfectly, which is why I ordered them. Although the housing should be hand-tightened, removing the wrench is frequently necessary. Without it, you would have to remove the housing using large channel locks, which would harm it. If you purchase the Big Blue filter cartridge, it is necessary. Pentek is a quality product that will last for a very long time.

It is a decent housing, earning a rating of 4, but the unit I received arrived with the wrong O-Ring. I'm glad it was a simple remedy. The filter housing is excellent and one of the very few that is clear, has a bracket, and uses a standard 10" filter when used with the Pentek 150578 MC-1A Bracket. I believe that this issue is what's causing the other leak complaints. Both of the O-rings I purchased—from various companies—fit perfectly. Look for Pentek #151120 or #241 O-Ring replacements. Regardless, you ought to keep a backup on hand.The manufacturer acknowledged the issue and is now sending a replacement. If you buy this filter housing, make sure the O-ring fits snugly into the groove before you begin the installation. It is not the thickness of the o-ring but the diameter of the circle that is somewhat too large.It appears that they have recognized this, but a few of them were still on the market.

You can see through it because it is translucent, but I wouldn't describe it as "clear." All I really needed and cared about was that it worked without leaks, so it's fine for me. I don't know if my shipment was just a mix-up or if all of them will be purple, but the description does indicate "available in a range of colors," so you might want to inquire or clarify before purchase if you really must have a clear one for any reason.

A whole-house water filter that was too small (2 7/8 in.) was in the house I bought. My well water is generally good, however it contains iron particles, silt, and a faint sulfur dioxide odor. I used to buy 2um carbon filters for $5 apiece from WM or HD, but they would clog up after 2.5 to 4 weeks. In order to estimate the filter life, I choose to update and install a Dual BB system with a sediment pre-filter and a carbon block main. Based on how well the smaller filter worked, I believe that sediment is my bigger issue because it frequently clogged before the carbon could effectively remove SO2.I chose the Pentek R30-20BB Pleated Polyester Filter since, with a fast rinse, it is meant to be reusable. I can't say how well it functions after rinsing because I haven't had to do so yet. The Pentek EP-20BB Carbon Block Filter was widely criticized for lowering system pressure by about 5 PSI. Since my pressure tank fluctuates between 50 and 32 psi, I honestly don't feel the pressure drop. It just takes my well pump around 30 seconds to restore the pressure to 50 psi. That might be concealing other people's filter-related worries.The installation process was really simple. For soldering, I would suggest MAP over propane because I could complete a joint in around 15 seconds of heat. A good heat shield is something else I would strongly advise. My heat shield was able to resist all of the heat without allowing any of it to transfer to the drywall as I had to solder several joints right next to the drywall. Neither was it warm.The lack of a wrench in the filter housing is the only thing I have to complain about. Although I was able to hand tighten them, I'm positive a tool will be required to unfasten them. As one of the original filter housings had broken tabs holding the filter in place, I also had to order a third one. It was simple and quick to return items and receive a refund. Both the filter and the tank appeared to be free of sediment. Just because it was out, I chose to rinse it.Until the SO2 becomes intolerably high, I want to continue utilizing the carbon block. Before I have to rinse the pre-filter again, I believe it has another six months to go.

For my CO2 laser, which utilizes a constant water flow to keep the laser tube cool, I bought this. After setting up shop in my new facility, I connected everything in and discovered that my expensive laser tube was filled with dust and scale. It was cool since it showed that water was in fact moving, but floaties inside of pricey machinery are just wrong.The water inside the laser tube was crystal clean and the black floaties were hugging the cartridge in less than five minutes after I connected the filter (and cartridge, sold separately).Will I be able to taste how good this water is? No, but it unquestionably makes my application better.As a side note, before getting started, anyone installing a water filtration system should be aware of water quality. There is a ton of literature online, so read it carefully before installing.As an illustration, purifying water can corrode. In delicate machinery like espresso makers and tea brewers, unfiltered water can lead to scale buildup.

This product is good and does the job it's supposed to do, but I would have given it five stars if it had performed a little bit better. I have two complaints: 1) little volume pour out. However, this might also be advantageous if you're camping and trying to conserve water, so I'd only give it a half-star rating. It has an ambiguous on/off position; turn it to release some water; keep turning it to release less water. I believe it's because the spout vents on its own. It is what it is, not bad but noteworthy nonetheless. 2) With this, you can only use around 50% of the water in a waterbrick. This is simply a result of the water brick's construction; the spout mounts in the middle, making it necessary to tip the brick in order to access anything below it. But I've also felt good about this. I use a half of one brick before switching to another. I dump all of my partially used bricks on the campfire or utilize them for other huge volume requirements. I'd love to see them develop a pressure pump type system for these where you really utilize the brick on end with a pump that dips it down to the bottom. It's not perfect, but it still functions. To get more water or more water at a larger volume, pressurize the brick. If you want to use water directly from the bricks like I do, it's still worth getting.

Since the silt would otherwise choke my sprinklers and drip hose, I added this unit to my existing unit for my complete home supply from the well and added another one for my garden and irrigation water. Although this filter is quite excessive, I wanted to standardize. Simply put, I won't have to change it as frequently as my home's filter.
