It was time to make some improvements because the house now had fresh kittens (and their needle-sharp claws). I looked around and eventually found this particular scratching post and decided to give it a try. I am happy I did.Top trim board, bottom trim board, two bottom base boards, and hardware are included in the delivery. Assembly was a cinch thanks to the accompanying tightening tool and five screws.I assumed it would be some time before our kittens were old enough to get it because of how high the tethered toy is and how tall the scratching post is. How foolish I was. They stand up and adhere to it firmly. They enjoy grabbing the fuzzy ball, and since it is attached to a flexible tether that resembles a bungee, they can reasonably pull it down and wrestle with it. Naturally, they'll approach it and use it as a standard scratching post.There are two models being sold at the time of this review: one with carpet padding covering all of the trim wood and base at the top and bottom, and the other, which I bought (since the carpet version was sold out), is just plain wood (or some kind of thick masonite with a varnish like coating.) They can't grasp the wood top to climb all the way up and sit on top, which would probably result in some ambushes and other mischief. Though they keep attempting to do so, perhaps it's better that they are unable to reach the top—part of the enjoyment, perhaps? In either case, I'm satisfied with the unit and probably would be with a carpeted version as well.I'd like to point out that the screws securing the base to the post protrude quite a bit. Although foam feet are given, the screw heads are thicker than the foam. This wouldn't be an issue on carpet. On hardwood, however, I had to lay down a towel because the unit was sitting on the four middle bolt heads rather than the outside foam cushions. The holes ought to have been slightly recessed by the manufacturer. If it were a problem, I could place four thicker chair foot cushions on the bottom. I can handle this easy enough. I would have given five stars if it weren't for this.

ADVANCED: 7/27/19 I had to go back and get another since my kitties adore it so much. They enjoy the Trixie brand hammock as well, don't get me wrong, but I have two soul mate kitties that were cramming themselves into one hammock together. They are now able to remain close by, side by side, and at the same level. Additionally, I believe they favor the somewhat taller height offered by the Amazon basic model. They receive roughly equal amounts of sunlight from both windows where they are sitting, but these two always seemed to prefer to cram themselves into the slightly taller hammock. The two lovebirds appear to favor the taller Amazon basic model, so I got a second one of that brand. However, judging by the expressions on their faces, I should have bought a matching set in the first place because all three of my furkids seem to enjoy both types of hammocks.I recently bought a cat hammock from the Trixie brand that is quite similar to this one, however it has a shaggy fur-like material covering the hammock and hammock base instead of just a soft, low pile material. Additionally, each of the poles to which the hammock was fastened was a single solid piece. This hammock from the Amazon Basics line is supported by poles that are made of two shorter parts each and a wooden ring covered in the same fabric as the hammock. The two shorter sections are joined by this ring, and the joined pieces screw onto the base. The hammock is attached to the poles via screws.Considering the two brands side by side, I do prefer the Trixie brand because I believe the sturdy one piece constructed poles on their model would last longer than the Amazon Basics model, which uses a three piece pole construction. The Trixie brand was out of stock when I bought the Amazon Basics brand. Don't get me wrong, it feels firmly constructed after everything is assembled, but I believe that having more parts increases the risk of breaking. Naturally, only time will tell.In conclusion, the Amazon Basics brand appears to be just as durable as the Trixie brand version and appears to be somewhere between half an inch and an inch taller, which, as far as my cats are concerned, makes no difference. Given that I spent the same amount for each of them and that they appear to be great cat hammocks, my three furbabies appear to be happy with both of them. especially given the cost. If one of them fails before the other, I'll update. In case anyone is interested in seeing the actual difference, the last picture is of the Trixie version while the first three pictures are of the Amazon Basics model. Anyway, I hope my review was helpful.

Which means if you're used to following instructions with merely photos, this wasn't simple or straightforward to put together (which I am becoming used to finally). For one person, it takes an hour to an hour and a half, not including the trying times when you'll need to pause for a while and strengthen yourself with a glass or two of wine. Here are some advice for women and men who actually read the reviews, like I did, so that we might learn some pearls of wisdom from others who have gone before us. First piece of advice: Don't freak out if you don't notice the condo boxes when you've laid out all the pieces to make sure you have them all before assembling. Only two sleeves—a little and a large one—will fit over the boxes you'll be making, as shown in the back's first instructions. Tip #2: When assembling the large box, pay attention to the top and bottom numbers and make sure the two holes on top and bottom are lined up (I had to take it apart later since I didn't do this). This will also be the back of your box when you attach the finished box's plush sleeve. After you pass the intermediate level, the going becomes much simpler. Enjoy your project and your wine (or other mood-enhancing beverage) and take a break when necessary. Although it isn't brain surgery, it does occasionally get insane.

This just took my husband and I 15 to 20 minutes to put together for our pets. The infant of the four loves to roll about in the cylinder tunnel, so we left it off to the side.It is very robust. We have one young adult cat that weighs 8 lbs. and three adult cats that weigh between 12 and 14 lbs. They frequently have all four of them on it at once, and it has never broken or tipped over. I don't believe the heaviest will fall anytime soon since when the heaviest slid off while rolling in catnip, it prevented him from panicking out and clinging on for dear life. The smallest bowl that hangs out on the side easily accommodates the heaviest cat as well.The hammock falls off readily, but that is to be anticipated given the hooks it comes with. That is my only criticism.In three months, if I remember, I'll check in to see how it's handled my crazy fur babies.*UPDATE*So, I was reminded! The top tier became too loose after about 1.5 months of heavy use, and no amount of tightening would keep it in place. Even some adhesive was tried, but it was too shaky. It holds up fine without a screw because I ultimately used the wood Gorilla Glue to keep it together. My youngest cat enjoys playing with the bowl and has ripped the rope. It was unbraided by him. My oldest cat would only scratch the front post, which he did until it was completely gone, so I flipped the tower over and replaced it with another post to allow him to continue scratching. Finally, because kids enjoy playing through the hole in the middle layer, we decided to switch the hammock.Overall, I continue to think that I received excellent value. To be entirely honest, I didn't anticipate it to last this long given that it is used everyday by four cats.**Update from December 2016**In addition to what I've already said, I also wanted to describe how I updated the tower. I'm in the process of using some rope I purchased here to replace all the rope posts. Even though I'm in the middle of a DIY project, I wanted to show you how it looks and how much my kitties adore it.I'm only working so hard to retain this tower because my husband's infant is madly in love with the bowl, and I can't take it away from him. LolOh, yes. The perch was long gone, so I bought a bed to go on top. It turned out to be a wise decision. :)I hope everyone who read my in-depth review was able to benefit and gain ideas.The rope I purchased to replace the scratching posts is shown here:T.W . This works flawlessly, and we recently got two brand-new kitties. We didn't want anything that was very big or intrusive, so I like that it's smaller because it can be quickly relocated to another room or hidden under something. The kittens truly make use of every component of this; they play with the little feather and even sleep on the perch and in the small "basket." They have also started using the cylinder sections as scratching posts. It arrived in one day and just five minutes to put together. Although we strongly advise against it, both of my kids (4 and 8) seem to insist on sitting on certain portions of it. Fortunately, it is solid enough for this. For the price, I feel we will easily get our money's worth, but depending on the size of an adult cat, this might not function past a certain size/age. While this works great for kittens, I would suggest carefully verifying size before considering for older/larger cats.

This was only $35 when it was on sale for me! For a cat tower, the price was really reasonable! It just came with one piece of unclear instructions, but I was able to follow it! It is just on the smaller side but quite strong. While my older cat, who weighs 10 lbs, cannot utilize the highest perch or hut, my kitten (seen in the picture), who is only 4 lbs, fits well in it.

It is the ideal size. It's a little bit smaller than I anticipated, but it ended up being precisely what I needed. Except for the top rim portion, it is quite solid and appears to be made of a sturdy material. That component seems readily bended or broken. I assembled it in within five minutes (I probably could have done it sooner, but our kitties wanted to help). The two kitties adored it! Until the older cat started climbing on it, my 4-month-old kitten wasn't all that interested. After that, they both started playing and scratching until they eventually fell asleep. I have no complaints; it was excellent for the price.

We recently adopted a cat, and we wanted to get him something like this so he could look over everything from a high perch (and stay off our countertops!). We finally settled on this cat tree after a protracted search and considerable consideration, and we couldn't be happier with it! It took less than 30 minutes to put together, and after we put our cat on one of the levels to explain what it was for, we had trouble getting him off. Before finally settling in the cubby level, where he laid and napped while spending hours observing us, he climbed all over it, investigating all the levels and playing with the ball at the top. Both he and I are overjoyed with the tree and how quickly it arrived to us. He is overjoyed with his new tree. I wholeheartedly endorse it for your furry kids!

I opened the box and let it "air out" for a few days before deciding it was time to put this cat tree together.To confirm that everything was present, I double-checked by counting the pieces and screws and by going over the written and visual instructions.Since I didn't have much upper body strength and I was moving this upstairs, it was simpler for me to take it up in pieces.I recently had wood flooring placed, and I was a little concerned that once it was assembled and upright, the screws on the bottom piece might scratch or harm them. I chose to lay down an old sheet on the floor as another reviewer, I believe, advised.Guess what, after all this initial "planning and organizing" on my part? The accompanying hex key/allen wrench turned out to be the WRONG SIZE, therefore I was unable to install the cat tree that evening. Fortunately, my employer had a tool box in his office/lab and I was able to borrow it the following day.Although the carpet is quite thin, it's difficult to judge if this will keep up over time, it does appear to be robust. My two cats, which weigh 7 and 9 pounds respectively, leaped on it as soon as I eventually finished putting it together. They both appear to be taking pleasure in the view from the window while lounging in the sunshine.
