I mean, six weeks earlier hunting is a fairly good incentive to learn archery, isn't it? And if that weren't enough, crossbows' technological advancements and their efficacy make it relatively easy to participate in this activity.Consider this Crosman Sniper 370 as an example. I intended to say the *CenterPoint* Sniper 370, I'm so sorry. Sorry. Crosman, the makers of BB guns, is the brand's owner. But since this isn't a BB pistol, it ultimately performs favorably, and in some cases even better than, models that cost hundreds more.Let me make a disclaimer about nomenclature first before I continue. This is a crossbow to me, not an arrowst. Instead of bolts or arguments, it fires arrows. I ask your apologies if my nomenclature sounds strange because I am aware that there is a debate similar to the clip =/= magazine debate with rifles.This crossbow is of high quality, to be sure. Really. Because there has always been a clear relationship between price and quality/functionality, it has long been accepted wisdom to purchase as many crossbows as you can. CenterPoint arrives to defy that norm, though. It's evident that CenterPoint has put a lot of effort into improving their crossbows, especially when compared to previous crossbows from about five years ago (I'm thinking the Bristol and/or Teton). And they were successful. This product screams quality the moment it is opened and put together. When assembling it, for instance, the screws are metal-on-metal rather than the recent trend of metal-on-plastic. The metal is also expertly polished and executed. That is not to suggest that plastic doesn't exist; it does, but it is of extremely high quality. The Sniper has an adjustable M4-style stock and tacti-cool AR handgrip, which together with Weaver rails on the foregrip and sight bridge make it almost infinitely adaptable.It's a fairly small crossbow, more so than I'm used to, measuring only about 17" cocked (21" uncocked - these are my measurements). Like all crossbows, it's front-heavy, but you can do without the foregrip if you'd prefer, mounting a bipod or something on that lower weaver rail - or, for that matter, go belt and suspenders and do both, as the rail is plenty long.The included arrows are 275 gr carbon fiber with 100 gr field tips, and CenterPoint specifies a 20" 400 gr arrow; with those arrows I wasn't getting quite 370 fps, but when I switched to a lighter 290 gr arrow I got a bit over 370. However, when I tested this rig out with PileDriver arrows tipped with Rage X broadheads, I was getting 345-347 fps onThe trigger is, well, very beautiful, possibly the greatest crossbow trigger I've ever felt, with a very slight takeup, a quarter-inch tops, and then a nice sharp window-glass-break. All of this adds up to really fantastic accuracy - at 30 yards with the PileDrivers I was getting GREAT groups.Simply told, you can kill any large game animal in North America with this crossbow.It has the aforementioned string suppressors, an anti-dry-fire mechanism that is HIGHLY appreciated, an arrow clip design that is a ball bearing/spring instead of a tension clip instead of a tension clip, which to me speaks to long term reliability, an automatic safety (though there is a specific setting for it), and an automatic safety (though there is a specific setting for it).This package also includes a 4x32 scope, and it is this scope that deserves some attention. First, the sight rail is adjustable. second, the scope itself is a four-ring Hawke SR multi reticle design, with illumination of the rings in either red or green, five levels of brightness each. third, it isn't the world's best scope, but it's also not a cheap POS (the instructions for the scope are useless, though.) I had no problems at all maintaining zero.As I stated, it compares incredibly well with crossbows costing much more, so in the end, this is a great build that delivers a ton of value for the money and is an exceptional crossbow that will serve the bow hunter well over the years.

I'm quite impressed with the crossbow's quality. It was primarily purchased for whitetail hunting, and I have no doubts that it will be effective in that endeavor. It was really simple to assemble, and it keeps shooting straight. This would compete with other well-known brands, in my opinion. This is a wise purchase considering the quality and value you receive. I prefer a fixed stock, and this model has the whisper package installed, so I chose it over the sniper 370. reduces the likelihood that a deer may jump the string when the bow is shot.Goods: Simple assembly185lb draw weight provides a LOT of power and comes with quiver!Whisper package makes the bolt almost silent, however it still produces more noise when it hits the target than an xbow.When drawn, it is only 14 inches wide, which facilitates movement in the stand or blind.Cons: The scope is only fair, it will fog up in the cold when removed from a room temperature environment, and the eye relief is not the best.It is challenging to pick a target that won't damage your bolt fletchings due to the xbow's power. I've fired through two targets with xbow ratings, and neither of them did a good job of deflecting my piledriver bolts. reaches the veins all the way down. Remember that when you fire this beast. This creature is punching through a deer like tissue paper if you strike it, bone and all.Recommendations for buying:BUY A BOTTLE OF LOCTITE and use it to lubricate each screw as you assemble. Grab the Piledrivers or Hunter Maximas' by Carbon Express if you're a hunter, and you'll be good to go.Purchase the Combo Pack of Bow String Conditioner and Crossbow Rail Lube at LimbSaver - Apply the wax on your strings and rub it in with the tips of your fingers to prevent fraying after repeated use. After each round of ten shots, apply the Rail Lube. Your xbow's maintenance will be kept up to date with this $10 upgrade.If you intend to hunt, spend money on high-quality scopes and equipment. I don't want to criticize this xbow because it has surpassed all of my expectations. But if anything in this package has been skimped on, it is the accessories (plastic quiver, scope, and bolts). My scope hasn't given me any trouble yet, however I will admit that after using it, I upgraded it first (replaced with a Nikon Bolt XR). The provided scope will do the job until you can replace it if money is an issue. While driving from my house to the woods, it became fogged up, and the clarity was mediocre. Eye relief is mediocre. The quiver and quiver mount are made of plastic; mine has so far stood up OK, but I will likely replace it next with something more durable.Final Reflections:This is a no-brainer considering the pricing. I put this together in 15 minutes straight out of the box. I went out to my objective only to discover that it was far too fast and powerful.The first arrow flew straight through once the fetchings were taken out and the arrow was buried. Oh yeah, per the cocking instructions, I chose the "guy" route and flung my back out. Wicked. The second arrow was inserted into the quiver and then unleashed on a fresh target.This is my first crossbow, and I'm impressed by its strength and quickness in comparison to my compound. However, a crossbow is louder than a compound, so I'm curious to see how the deer will jump the string.It's time for bow season (I'm still surprised that they classify these in the same category as a bow).I can't wait to grab a target and try this beast. Just received it today. Being my first time, I don't have many experiences to compare it to. It seems to be just what a beginner crossbow should be, in my opinion. I have a lot of guns experience, but this is new to me. But some things never change. Unfortunately, given how clear the flaws in this instance were, this will sound more negative than it actually is. The center point label was on upside down, which was the first thing I noticed. Performance won't be affected, of course, but quality assurance might miss that and there should be a twitch. Second, the scope that is included differs from the one described in the majority of reliable or official reviews. Evidently, when it was first made available, the scope was lit; this is not the case anymore. Anyway, the reticle on my scope wasn't square or level when it arrived installed in the rings. Simple fix but not quite a bolt on straight out of the box. Assume that the device performs as intended. If I discover anything else—good, bad, or ugly—I'll update it.

I've had mine for almost a month now, and throughout that time I've even harvested one whitetail (doe).Let's start with the negatives.1. I have no trouble cocking this, but I can easily imagine folks who are smaller and/or shorter (I am 6' 1" and 265 lbs.) having serious difficulties. After multiple rounds, it does exhaust me, though.2. If you have large hands, the side quiver attachment, which makes it run parallel to the stock, won't work for you. When I have it in this position, bolts are sitting on my triggerhand and, if I flip sides with it, hit my off arm or shoulder while aiming.3.) After the first day of shooting it, all the decals on mine (such as the safety label) started to peel off. A little super glue on them solves the issue. But even so...Okay, on to the professionals —1. I've shot several factory triggers during my many years of competitive shooting, but this one is one of my favorites. There is absolutely no give, only a smooth, crisp draw.2.) It is actually quite for how quickly it flings bolts, and boy does it fling them.3.) The weight isn't too much to carry, yet it's still enough to get a reliable offhand shot when necessary.4.) When cocked, a full-sized crossbow is relatively compact.5.) I really prefer the illuminated 7-distance scope to what I had anticipated.6. The thing is amazingly accurate, at least out to a range of 40 yards offhand. I haven't yet benched it past that.7.) I wear a size 14 boot, and the STR has no trouble accommodating at least my 30 to 50 degree weather-insulated boots.8.) The front pic rail enables a variety of additional tactical possibilities.For me, the drawbacks aren't really that significant. This bow and some Rage EXTREME 4 Blade broadheads are what I have (really shine with the speed of this bow). worked on my first buck at 20 yards (even if it was a semi-bad shot at no fault of the crossbow itself).

My kit arrived yesterday, and I put it together last night. Although the assembly is quite intuitive, the directions are very ambiguous. I attempted to attach the bow to the stock using the incorrect bolts because the assembly hardware was all mixed up in two bags, but I figured it out. I set up an old 3D target for sighting in the scope this morning. I fired two 485 grain bolts into it from a distance of ten yards, but I was unable to dislodge one of them. The one I removed revealed that the bolt friction had "welded" the bolt in by melting either the finish or the target, or maybe both. Without any alterations, it merely slightly undershot. I backed up to 20 yards and set up an old, dense foam broadhead target in front of a cheapo styrofoam target. It fired just a hair low and reached the nock. I concluded that before making any changes, I should purchase a better target.I realized that the cocker's hooks were interfering with the safety switch when I struggled to get the bowstring catch to hook up after turning the string back while using the cocker. The hooks were forcing the safety back on even though it needed to be removed. Though I doubt that was the issue, I later realized that I had misunderstood and the hooks actually needed to face downward from the rail. I'll retry with the hooks down and see when my crossbow target shows up. The instruction book's illustrations are very dark and difficult to read, which may have contributed to my error, but I assume it was my own problem. The cocker otherwise ran smoothly and was silent. The cocker should not be used to lower the string, per the instructions. It can be used to decock, according to a YouTube video, but you would need to be extremely careful not to lose hold of the handle when the release is pushed.I gave it a 4 instead of a 5, because of the inadequate instructions and subpar photos.Update: After finishing this evaluation, I discovered the reason for my ambiguity regarding how to use the cocker hooks. The crossbow's handbook shows the hooks down, however there are supplemental instructions that came with the cocker that show the hooks up. I take that to mean that it makes no difference, but I'll try hooks down next to see if that solves the interference issue that causes the safety to automatically re-engage as soon as the hooks pass it when cranking.

These broadheads made by Rage are dangerous. 2-Blade Rage Crossbow X Broadhead, 125-Grain (Pack of 3) I shot a lovely doe last weekend from a 16-foot treestand at 25 yards with my Barnett Jackal crossbow. The 20" Barnett/Easton bolt was fired with a 125gr broadhead, and it passed through with a double-lung strike. At the moment of impact, the bolt was only a few feet behind the doe, and it was evident that the broadhead expanded as predicted. The doe sprinted about 40 yards before being killed cleanly by the broadhead, as seen by the blood trail. After looking at the broadhead, I can easily reuse it by simply attaching a new shock collar; I probably won't even need to sharpen the blades. I appreciate that you receive a practice broadhead with these because I frequently experienced a droppage of around 1/2 inch at 30 yards compared to the fieldpoint.I'll send a few photos in the hopes that you can enlarge the one in which the mechanical broadhead is visible opening at the point of impact. Where the deer stood or dug out to flee after being struck is shown at lower left. found the bolt very close to the location of the cocking stirrup. Take note of the fresh blood trail. These 2-blade Rage broadheads deliver serious bleeding.
