I just got this car seat today, and I was finding it quite challenging to move the crotch strap. I finally went to YouTube and discovered a video that was quite helpful, so I thought I'd give some advice.First, remove the padding to make it simpler to reach the crotch buckle.Second, make sure the strap that is threaded through the seat is tightly fastened by holding the buckle.Third, insert the metal bracket's side through the seat's slit while pulling the strap taut. Just enough of the bracket's corner should be pushed to pass through, take note.The material will bunch up if you attempt to push too much of the bracket through at once. This technique allowed me to remove and reinstall the crotch buckle in under three minutes! I hope my instructions were sufficient, but if not, look at "Graco Nautilus car seat crotch Buckle removal" by broncoboxer on YouTube. Wonderful!Having said that, I haven't fitted or used the seat yet. If after a few months I decide I don't like the car seat, I'll update this post.

For my daughter, who is 2 1/2 years old, I purchased this item to replace an older Graco toddler (forward or rear facing) car seat that had run out of warranty. Here are my opinions:1. The seat is shipped in a sizable package with the seat unlatched from the base. On the other hand, following the instructions that were provided made it simple to latch the seat back to the base. No big deal, just be aware that a very enormous item (around 4-5 feet tall) will be waiting for you at your door.2. Excellent cushioning and padding on the seats. The cushioning is one big piece that extends from the front of the bottom base of the seat halfway up the back, which is extremely beautiful and comfy, as opposed to a little insert (like many chairs like this) (frankly probably more comfortable than my seat). Note that this is additional to the base's general cover (seat). Your child will therefore be extremely comfortable in either a harness or a booster with a back mode.3. Recline is marketed as having three positions. I say, "eh." The three settings mentioned are present, but the amount of recline is VERY limited. I estimate my measurement to be a few inches. It is enough to make sure the base is positioned correctly and parallel to your seat, but not enough to allow for true "reclining" of the seat.4. A few reviewers mentioned how challenging it was to change the upper harness's length. If the headrest is locked at the lowest position, I can see how this might be a problem. To fix, simply move the headrest/protection up a notch, creating enough of slack/gap for the two problematic straps. This made it simple for me to change the harness' length (easiest is to leave the harness upper buckle - the plastic one - buckled so you can pull downwards and outwards on the harness while holding the button under the white front buckle cap). I observed that while it does require some effort, doing so is simple once the headrest is up.5. On the interior of each arm rest are two cute miniature "cubbies."6. To keep the metal buckles from the upper harness out of the way while securing your youngster, there are two elastic "pockets" that the instructions depict in the image. Nice concept, but I don't think it works all that well. Even still, bravo for the effort, as this can occasionally be a real pain.Now for some of my complaints: I had to relocate the bottom seat buckle from its factory setting (there are three going from the base's rear to the front, corresponding to smaller to larger children) to the position that faces forward (my little on is already in excess of 30 pounds of adorable cuteness). The metal buckle should be turned sideways, according to the directions, in order for it to fit through the slot. Since I've had to do it to two of these seats and have the injuries to show it, I dare to claim that it's DARN NEAR IMPOSSIBLE. I spent more than an hour and a half trying to get the buckle through the slot (I did it twice backwards, which resulted in some choice comments), cutting my hand several times, and developing a painful blister. Furthermore, the top padding insert only has two spaces, although the plastic base has three slots (there should be one corresponding to each of the three bottom slots in the underlying pad and base). The underside of the base has several sharp edges and protrusions that are just the right size to lacerate your hand as you attempt the herculean effort of trying to get the buckle and strap through. There is very little room to get your hand into the underside of the base to accomplish moving the buckle and strap through the base, the top harness strap covers the slots (so you need to loosen the upper harness pretty much all the way to be able to get under the strap and see the slots at all), andThe seat has what appears to be a very fine cup holder, which brings us to our second complaint. It is wonderful, but only for bottles and glasses with a smaller diameter. Cups that are shorter or more squat won't fit correctly in the cup holder. However, it can easily accommodate cups with a smaller diameter and a higher height. The diameter of the holder may have been increased to make this better.Due to the lack of recline, difficulty adjusting the base buckle, and small diameter cup holder, I rate it a 4 overall. This chair might shine with a few little design tweaks...

I read evaluations of many convertible chairs over the course of several days. I eventually opted to settle with this seat after reducing my options to three, including this one. First off, let me say that I work next to a Babies R Us and that I frequently browse their sale department because big items like chairs are frequently returned by clients. I've questioned the managers a lot about the seats that are returned, and I've learned that kids frequently return Britax brands because they think the seats are too harsh. I've also discovered that you don't have to spend a fortune to buy a car seat that will safeguard your child in the event of an accident, but you do need a high-quality seat. I bought two of these chairs and one Safety First product (I got the Safety 1st on clearance before I knew how much I prefer this seat). Due to our busy schedules, we require seats for both of our cars as well as the vehicle owned by my baby's grandparents. Since one of the reviews I read stated that the baby's head slumps forward too much, I was initially really unhappy because my baby actually experienced that. (See image showing orange clothing and face in the sun.) As a result, I was planning to return it and give it a bad rating. But…. According to the directions, you can use a towel to help level the seat or increase its degree of recline. I continued reading sites when someone recommended using a pool noodle as the best fix. ...AND IT WAS! The seat was always snugly fitting, but now that it has the pool noodle, it is even more so. You can see in one of my images that before I put the pool noodle, my infant was napping in the chair. The other images demonstrate how it reclines and fits with the installed pool noodle (see sleeping picture in red outfit). You can bring your car to any nearby fire department to have them certify everything is well if you are concerned about the collision with the pool noodle. We did that, and everything was fine.
