Do puzzles help with dementia?

There is some evidence that doing puzzles can help people with dementia. A study in 2006 found that people who did crossword puzzles had a lower risk of developing dementia. Another study found that people who did other kinds of puzzles, such as jigsaw puzzles, had a better cognitive performance than those who didn’t do any puzzles. Puzzles can help to keep the brain active and engaged, which may help to delay the onset of dementia. However, more research is needed to confirm these findings.

I bought this puzzle along with a few others from Melissa

Ravensburger Cozy Retreat 500 Piece Large Format Jigsaw Puzzle for Adults - Every Piece is Unique, Softclick Technology Means Pieces Fit Together Perfectly Review:

This problem was such pure fun! We've completed a lot of puzzles, but never ones with the "big" cut pieces that Ravensburger has produced (only 500 pieces but the footprint is large - you might need 2 cardtables to sort and complete). The pieces fit together effortlessly and can be transported easily to completed areas. The low glare paper is also a significant benefit. The quality was unmatched; there was not a single component missing. This puzzle is perfect for a three-generation family activity, as in, let's gather around the table and enjoy each other's company. The pieces are not annoying for anyone and are big enough for children and grandparents. What a great way to pass the time while sitting with your parents at home or at the beach as it pours rain, while still being challenging enough to keep the "sandwich generation" from growing bored. This was a complete joy for us, but if you like jigsaw puzzles and require a real challenge, this one might not be for you.

Buffalo Games - Charles Wysocki - Trick Or Treat Hotel - 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle Review:

My husband and I virtually always purchase puzzles from Buffalo Games because of the attached poster, which is essential for elderly eyes. The puzzles by Charles Wysocki are highly beloved by us. This jigsaw was flawless since none of the pieces were twisted, the pieces were unbroken, and the puzzle was not missing (something that has occasionally happened with other puzzles but never with Wysocki). We jokingly discussed whether we should "just put it back in the box now" after putting the frame together because it appeared to be quite challenging. But since it took us two days to complete, which is how long we often spend to complete puzzles, it wasn't actually any harder than other Wysocki 1000-piece puzzles offered by Buffalo Games.Working on the concept was enjoyable. Highly advised.

Melissa & Doug Land of Dinosaurs Jigsaw Puzzle (Wipe-Clean Surface, 60 Pieces, 10.9" H x 7.4" W x 1.8" L, Great Gift for Girls and Boys - Best for 6, 7, 8 Year Olds and Up) Review:

My son, who had previously mastered the smaller piece puzzles, was given this 60 piece set. Along with this purchase, I also got the Ravensburger Tropical Friends - 60 Piece Puzzle, a second 60-piece puzzle from the same manufacturer. Given that these two companies have the widest selection of puzzles available, I thought a side-by-side comparison would be beneficial for a prospective customer.1. Size: This one is 14 1/4 x 10 1/4 inches, whereas Ravensburger is 14 1/4 x 10 1/3. They both have a shorter side that is 6 pieces long and a longer side that is 10 pieces long. Although this one is slightly bigger, the difference is not really significant.2-Picture quality and details: Despite the fact that my son is obsessed with dinosaurs, I thought this one had darker, more somber tones. The dinosaurs depicted in the image don't have well-considered details. The tricerotops, stegosaurus, and other long-necked plant-eating dinosaurs on the back are definitely in trouble, even though Parasaurolophus appears to be in good health. They didn't seem to have good proportions. Ravensburger delivers a more appealing color scheme and greater image quality.3- Quality: Both of them offer excellent premium cardboard that is hard to bend or break. Both of them have a single side, a blue side. This is beneficial for small toddlers who can become perplexed if the other side also has a different image. On the surface, they look very similar, but they differ slightly: Ravensburger offers a greater variety of puzzle shapes, whereas Melissa Doug's version is only a repetition of a select number. I don't have a preference for either over the other. They all provide comparable difficulties for developing minds. The business describes Ravensburger, a grainy finish, as a better anti-reflective design that provides a nicer experience for the young eyes. High gloss is a finish offered by Melissa-Doug. I have not noticed that the gloss causes eyesight issues. It is mainly a matter of taste, similar to selecting matte or glossy photo paper.Age range: The Melissa-Doug box states "5 ," but the Ravensburger packaging states "4 ." My son, who is about 3 years and 5 months old, can manage them both after working for about an hour or so (with breaks). But I must admit that, with numerous sets in his collection, he is overly engrossed in the world of jigsaw puzzles. Once more, I believe that the puzzle range for 4 is a better guess.Price: The ravensburger was provided for $6.37 while Melissa and Doug cost roughly $9 at the time of purchasing. Given the same in design, size, and quality, I believe the ravensburger has a significant pricing advantage, making it my choice if I were just looking for one set. They are decent puzzles and tough, in my opinion. However, I give this puzzle 4 stars while giving the other one 5 stars owing to various drawbacks with the picture details, color choice, and pricing being over 30% more expensive.UPDATE: I went to the Melissa Doug Company website, and I noticed that each 60-piece puzzle costs $6.99. (Over $50, shipping is free) So they provide better value than anywhere else if you're interested in growing your puzzle collection.

Melissa & Doug Construction Vehicles 4-in-1 Wooden Jigsaw 12-Piece Puzzles (Beautiful Original Artwork, 48 Pieces Total, Great Gift for Girls and Boys - Best for 3, 4, 5 Year Olds and Up) Review:

Our son likes these 4 in 1 puzzles that we got for him when he was 4 years old (the train, race car, fire engine, and bus). So, we bought this set of construction vehicles, and he also enjoys them. We really need peaceful activities for him to do at church, and I appreciate that I can easily pack them all up in baggie bags for us to carry with us. These could be too simple for some 5 to 6 year olds (our son has autism), but I believe they would be safe for kids in the 3-5 age range. What's fantastic about it is as follows:- Standard. I've learned to rely on Melisa and Doug for that, and they don't let me down with this one. Although I would say the quality is a little bit lower than some of their other products, what you receive is very fantastic for the amount you pay! The graphics don't tear up at the edges of the pieces like many puzzles, the wood box is solidly crafted, and the parts aren't flimsy. Four puzzles for a good price!- This puzzle's most intriguing element is perhaps something I worried about from the minute I first saw it. I was seeing my son throwing out EVERY piece at once while I struggled to figure out which piece belonged with which picture and in which compartment. Fortunately, the astute minds at Melissa and Doug had that in mind and gave each puzzle piece a distinct red form on the reverse so you could quickly determine which pieces go together depending on which have a circle, which have a square, etc. Because it requires sorting, cleanup is truly enjoyable. Well done, M

Vermont Christmas Company Halloween Town Jigsaw Puzzle 550 Piece Review:

I adore the puzzles from the Vermont Christmas Company because I think the themes are charming and suitable for people of all ages. I never get the impression that we are doing a "baby" puzzle as a family; rather, we are solving a fun and difficult puzzle. The pieces are big enough to see what you're doing, and altogether, I thought the puzzle was sturdy. There are no issues with missing parts either. The illustration is adorable, and if you examine the puzzle carefully, you might notice many small elements that I missed when I only looked at the cover! It's vertical, which is an added plus! I constantly get a little tired of horizontal puzzles!

Buffalo Games - Americana Collection - Country Store - 500 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle Review:

The variety of indications made this puzzle enjoyable to solve. Because there were so many different things, my husband and I could both work on a different truck. My favorite puzzles are Buffalo Games because they come with a poster, which makes solving the puzzle much less difficult than trying to determine the goal by glancing at a tiny picture on the box that is frequently covered by labeling. Now that I've seen the difference, I strive to only purchase puzzles from Buffalo Games.

SKYFIELD Wooden Animal Jigsaw Puzzles for Toddlers 1 2 3 Years Old, Boys &Girls Educational Toys Gift with 4 Animals Patterns, Bright Vibrant Color Shapes,Gift Box Packed Ready (Animal) Review:

These were purchased for a buddy of Bailey, my 2-year-old, who is turning. first wooden puzzles she made. I hope they're a hit because they look beautiful from what I could tell as I was wrapping them. The pieces should be ideal for a two-year-first old's puzzle, but they wouldn't be challenging enough for my three-year-old. We only buy toys that decompose, and we adore giving her friends wooden gifts. For that, wood works perfectly.

FLY2SKY Halloween Jigsaw Puzzles Toy Set 36 Pack Halloween Themed Puzzles for Toddlers Toy Puzzles for Ages 3 to 8 Kids Halloween Party Favor Halloween Game for Kids Family School Trick or Treat Review:

If you have children who aren't always good at sharing, like my kids, this puzzle kit is great to hand out during gatherings. There are six different sorts of puzzles, six in each design. My kids, who are 4 and a half and almost three, find them to be sweet but yet tough. They aren't the thickest or most robust puzzles, but I don't believe they are intended to be, as they are more for handing out at festivals and gatherings. They're entertaining overall, and my kids like them.

Buffalo Games - Darrell Bush - Canoe Lake - 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle Review:

It was fun to put the puzzle together. I do concur with the statement that some pieces were so similar that you subsequently realized they needed to be taken out and replaced with other pieces. This also applied to the components with straight edges. It was challenging to take apart the components, and you had to twist them out. The cardboard used to construct the puzzle was not particularly robust, and there was no sense of the pieces clicking into place. The greatest complaint is that there was one component missing, which we became aware of right away. But we persisted in having fun. Having said that, the positives were that it was a fun challenge and the image was intriguing. I'd probably purchase another.
