Melissa & Doug Colorful Fish Wooden Chunky Puzzle (8 Pieces), Great Gift for Girls and Boys – Best for 2, 3, and 4 Year Olds Review:

Bought this and a few other Melissa & Doug puzzles for my 2 year old. He was sitting along side me as we did some online "puzzle" shopping, and this "fishy" one caught his attention the most. So in the shopping cart it went! Fast forward 2 days later.. Shipping was quick and it arrived in great condition. As I was unpacking it, my 2 year old immediately smiled and became interested. Each individual fish is solid and chunky but not heavy, perfect for little hands. He enjoyed naming the colors as they were being placed in. This would be a good one for 18mth- 3 year olds, as my 5 year old only seemed mildly interested. A nice simple little puzzle. I would definitely recommend.

Ravensburger Cozy Retreat 500 Piece Large Format Jigsaw Puzzle for Adults - Every Piece is Unique, Softclick Technology Means Pieces Fit Together Perfectly Review:

What a complete joy this puzzle was! We have done many puzzles, but never the ‘large’ cut pieces that Ravensburger has put out (only 500 pieces but the footprint is large - you might need 2 cardtables to sort and complete). The quality was unsurpassed - not a piece missing, precision cut as in NO jagged edges - the pieces fit easily together and can be trasported easily to completed sections— the low glare paper is a big plus. This puzzle is a great 3-generation family project- as in, let’s sit around the table and enjoy the company -puzzle. The pieces are large enough for the kids and grandparents and not frustrating for anyone. What a way to spend the day while the rain pours down at the beach or you’re sitting with mom and dad at the home and yet challenging enough to keep the ‘sandwich generation’ from getting bored. If you’re a jigsaw puzzler who needs a complete challenge - well maybe this one isn’t for you — but as far as we’re concerned - this was a complete joy.

Buffalo Games - Charles Wysocki - Trick Or Treat Hotel - 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle Review:

My husband and I buy puzzles by Buffalo Games almost exclusively because of the included poster which is critically important for older eyes. We are especially fond of Charles Wysocki's puzzles. This one was perfection in that the puzzle wasn't missing (has happened once or twice, but not with Wysocki); the pieces were intact (which has been a problem with a couple of Wysocki puzzles from Buffalo); and no pieces were warped.

After assembling the frame, we joked as to whether we should "just put it back in the box now" because it looked as if it was going to be really really hard. But it took us two days, which is how long puzzles usually take us; therefore, it wasn't actually harder than most 1000 piece puzzles by Wysocki and sold by Buffalo Games.

The theme made if fun to work. Highly recommend.

Melissa & Doug Land of Dinosaurs Jigsaw Puzzle (Wipe-Clean Surface, 60 Pieces, 10.9" H x 7.4" W x 1.8" L, Great Gift for Girls and Boys - Best for 6, 7, 8 Year Olds and Up) Review:

I bought this 60 piece set for my son who had previously mastered the smaller pieces puzzles. Together with this purchase, I bought another 60 piece set from another brand (Ravensburger)Ravensburger Tropical Friends - 60 Piece Puzzle. Since these are the two brands which offer the highest variety of puzzles on the market, I thought a side by side comparison would be helpful for a potential buyer.

1- Size: Ravensburger measures 14 1/4 x 10 1/3 inches while this one is 14 1/4 X 10 1/4. They both are 6 pieces on the shorter side and 10 pieces on the longer side. This one is a tiny little bit larger but that does not make a big difference.

2-Picture quality and details: Although my son is a dinosaur addict, this one looked more gloomy with darker colors to me. The details of the dinosaurs pictured are not well considered. Parasaurolophus looks OK but there is obviously something wrong with the tricerotops, stegosaurus and the other long neck plant eaters on the back. They seemed not very well proportioned. Ravensburger offers better image quality and a more attractive mix of colors.

3- Quality: They both offer very high end cardboard quality that is difficult to get bent or get damaged. They are both one sided with the other side being blue. This is good for younger children who can get puzzled when the other side has a different picture too.

They have slight differences on the over all apperances: Ravensburger offers a wider selection of puzzle shapes but the melissa doug one is simple repetition of the same few shapes. To me there is no preference of one over the other. They all offer similar challanges for young minds. Ravensburger is a grained finish and the company claims this is a better anti-reflective design that offer a softer experience for the little eyes. Melissa-Doug offers a high gloss finish. I have not noticed the gloss being a problem for eyes. It is more of a personal preference like choosing a matte or glossy photo paper.

Age range: Ravensburger says 4+ on the box and the Melissa-Doug says 5+ on the box. My son is around 3 years and 5 months and after working around an hour or so (with breaks) he can handle them both. But I have to say that he is too much in to the world of jigsaw puzzles with many sets in his collection. Yet again I think 4+ is a better guess for this puzzle range

Price: Melissa and doug was priced at around $9 (at the time of purchase) while the ravensburger was offered at $6.37. Considering the similarities in the design, dimensions and the quality I think the ravensburger has a great price advantage, which would make it my choice if I were after one set only.

My conclusion is they are both decent puzzles and challenging. But due to some negative points about the picture details, selection of colors and the price being over 30% higher than the other one I rate this puzzle 4 stars while giving the other one a 5 stars.

UPDATE: I visited Melissa Doug Company website and all the 60 piece puzzles are priced at $6.99. (Free shipping over $50) So if you are interested in expanding your puzzle collection, they offer better value then everywhere else...

Melissa & Doug Construction Vehicles 4-in-1 Wooden Jigsaw 12-Piece Puzzles (Beautiful Original Artwork, 48 Pieces Total, Great Gift for Girls and Boys - Best for 3, 4, 5 Year Olds and Up) Review:

We bought a set of these 4 in 1 puzzles (train, race car, fire truck & bus) for our son when he was 4 and he still loves them (he's now 5) so we bought this set of construction vehicles and he loves them too! We really need quiet things for him to do at church and I love that I can throw each one in a ziplock bag and bring them with us easily. These might be too easy for some 5-6 year olds (our son is autistic) but I think they'd be a safe bet for ages 3-5 for sure. Here's what's great about it:

- Quality. That's something I've come to rely on with Melisa and Doug and they don't disappoint with this one. I would say it's a small step down in terms of quality from some of their others, but really, for the price you pay, what you get is really great! The wood box is well made, the pieces are not flimsy and the pictures don't peel up at the corners of the pieces like many puzzles.
- Good price for FOUR puzzles!
- Probably my favorite part about this puzzle is something I was stressing about from the moment I saw it. I was envisioning my boy dumping ALL the pieces out at once and me having a horrible time trying to sort which piece goes with which picture and in which compartment. Fortunately the clever people at Melissa and Doug thought of that and put a different red shape on the back of every single puzzle piece so you can easily figure out which go together based which have a circle, which have a square etc. That actually makes for fun clean up because it involves sorting! Nice work M&D!
- The lid also serves as a removable puzzle building frame with plenty of room to work. While these puzzles can easily be assembled without the backing (as long as you're doing it on a hard surface like the table or wood floor), it's nice to have that feature.

All in all I think these are darling little puzzles and I can definitely recommend! I didn't get a discount or anything like that.

Vermont Christmas Company Halloween Town Jigsaw Puzzle 550 Piece Review:

I'm a big fan of Vermont Christmas Company puzzles because I think the themes are lovely and appropriate for all ages. I never feel like our family is doing a "baby" puzzle, rather something fun and challenging for everyone. The pieces are large enough to see what you're doing and I found the puzzle to be durable overall. No problems with missing pieces, either. The picture is adorable and if you look closely at the puzzle, you might find a lot of little details that I missed looking at the cover! Added bonus is that it's vertical! I get a little bored of horizontal puzzles all the time!

Buffalo Games - Americana Collection - Country Store - 500 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle Review:

Loved working this puzzle because of the many signs. So many different items, hubby could work on one truck while I worked on the other, etc. Buffalo Games are my favorite puzzles because they include a poster which makes working a puzzle so much less frustrating than trying to figure out the objective by looking at a small picture on the box, a picture that is often obscured by labelling. For that reason, I try to buy only Buffalo Games puzzles now that I've experienced the difference.

SKYFIELD Wooden Animal Jigsaw Puzzles for Toddlers 1 2 3 Years Old, Boys &Girls Educational Toys Gift with 4 Animals Patterns, Bright Vibrant Color Shapes,Gift Box Packed Ready (Animal) Review:

I bought these for a friend of my toddler, Bailey, who is turning 2. Her first wood puzzles. Hopefully they're a hit- I got a look at them when I was wrapping them and they look nice. They wouldn't be advanced enough for my 3yr old, but the pieces should be perfect for a 2yr olds first puzzle. We love giving wood gifts to her friends, and try to only invest in biodegradable toys. Wood is perfect for that.

FLY2SKY Halloween Jigsaw Puzzles Toy Set 36 Pack Halloween Themed Puzzles for Toddlers Toy Puzzles for Ages 3 to 8 Kids Halloween Party Favor Halloween Game for Kids Family School Trick or Treat Review:

This is a great puzzle set to give out at parties, or if you just have multiple kids woo aren’t necessarily good at sharing like my kids lol. There’s 6 different types of puzzles, each design has 6 puzzles. They’re nice and small but still challenging enough for my toddlers, ages 4 1/2 and almost 3. They aren’t the most thick or durable puzzles, but I don’t think they’re meant to be anyway since they’re more for giving out at events and parties. Overall, they’re fun and my kids enjoy them.

Buffalo Games - Darrell Bush - Canoe Lake - 1000 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle Review:

The puzzle was interesting to put together. I do agree with the person who said that there were pieces so similar that you later realized that they had to be removed and swapped with other pieces. This was true with the straight edge pieces as well. When you tried to remove pieces it was difficult and they had to be twisted out. The puzzle was not made out of the most sturdy cardboard and there wasn't the feel of pieces snapping in. The biggest criticism is that there was one piece missing that we realized early on was gone. But we kept on playing!.With that said the upside was that it was a good challenge and the picture was interesting. I would likely buy another.
