Best Freestanding Ranges in 2020

Cosmo DFR486G 48 in Free-standing Dual Fuel Range | 6 Sealed Burner Rangetop, Double Convection Oven with Light, Cast-Iron Grate Stovetop/Griddle, Metal Stove Heat Control, Stainless Steel Review:

Recently had to replace our 48 inch range in our cottage. Was difficult finding a quality range that size for a reasonable price. This range hit all the marks, dual fuel (gas top and electric stove), quality stainless steel, and griddle on the stove top.

I've cooked on it now a few times and am very satisfied with its performance. Both stoves work well. The range top has a variety of sized burners for all applications.

Frigidaire FFGF3052TS 30 Inch Gas Freestanding Range with 5 Sealed Burner Cooktop, 4.2 cu. ft. Primary Oven Capacity, in Stainless Steel Review:

This was purchased to replace an old-style thirty-year-old range.
It has five burners, each with different outputs, very versatile and capable of high output.
The oven temp is electronically regulated, making it more precise than the old technology.
The timer is almost inaudible and does not turn off oven.
I like the lower broiler rather than a broiler in the top of the oven. The broiler has hi/lo output settings which is nice.
Note: it does not come with a broiler pan, only a rack, but we saved our old one, it fit perfectly.
When broiling with a pan there is space to warm things underneath it.
The heavy top grates take some getting used to but work well.
It is easy to clean but the black finish shows everything.
I am very pleased with it overall.

Thor Kitchen HRG3080U 30" Freestanding Professional Style Gas Range with 4.2 cu. ft. Oven, 4 Burners, Convection Fan, Cast Iron Grates, and Blue Porcelain Oven Interior, in Stainless Steel Review:

Love it!
I was worried ... I purchased this oven based on descent reviews but read a few that made me nervous. After install I have no complaints and I'm really happy I got this!

The design of this range looks great and is good quality.

I have had no problems with hot knobs. I'm not sure what could have happened for the person that posted that but... I had the oven on seasoning and the burners - no problems.

Burners work great! I had zero problems but I had a professional installer do the job so... maybe that helped?

I don't believe you need an oven thermometer... The oven lets you know the temperature there is a blue light on the front, once it hits the temperature the blue light turns off. I'll probably still get an oven thermometer but... good to know.

The self cleaning feature was a non issue with me as even the higher end models (wolf -etc ) have complaints about the self cleaning features. I've never used one- so guess I don't know what I'm missing.

I love the blue oven interior - it's pretty.

I have zero issues with the oven racks - again I'm not sure what happened for the other reviewer but they are pretty standard - I suppose if you misalign there could be a problem but that would happen in any oven.

Lastly if I had to pick one thing I disliked... I am not a fan of the company logo. It's a bit ... front and center- so I popped it off and used some goo-gone.

Thor Kitchen Gas Range with 6 Burners and Double Ovens, Stainless Steel - HRG4808U-1 Review:

Shipping was excellent. They showed up and asked if we wanted them to take it into our kitchen. Yes!!! We gave them a nice tip for being generous without asking. It cooks great. Looks beautiful. We get tons of compliments. 2 ovens 6 burners and 1 griddle for under $6000 is pretty good. Lighting is pretty. All burners are powerful and heat liquids super fast. They cut on fast too. Ignite is quick. We’ve had it for 5 months and I’ve cooked and baked nearly everything. Super fun to cook on. My previous 36 inch range that came with the house was gas and heavy duty but not professional by any means. It’s better than Viking. The ovens besides the racks look like Thermador and cook similar.
Cons
Knocked a star due to simmer and oven racks.

This isn’t a thermador simmer- closer to Viking. I have cooked on both. Viking is always too hot. This Thor is better for sure. Thor’s simmer still has a light boil which isn’t good for delicate sauces. I wish the grates were lower like the older models I’ve seen. These are very high. We are tall (5’10-6’3) so it’s not a huge deal. The oven racks are NOT smooth gliding as I recall reading. They DO NOT glide like the high end range.

Be warned. This unit is a beast. It kept blowing our circuit. We had to wire it to it’s own separate outlet. We also need a special hose for our gas line. I mention this because I don’t recall seeing it in the description.

I almost bought the thermador 36 inch with free dishwasher to replace our old 36 but I wanted the double ovens and bigger statement for my money. We cut the granite and took out cabinets ourselves. Easy. So worth it!

The griddle takes some getting used to. I’m used to my cast iron griddle which doesn’t stick. Viking style. This one is stainless steel. It sticks unless you spray with nonstick spray or butter. Coconut, avocado and sometimes olive oil all stick. I was shocked. I bought the stainless spatulas and scraper set which work great. I love that you can cover up the griddle. It’s hard to get the darkened oil stains off. The ovens cook fine. The smaller one seems to take a little longer to cook. When the griddle and oven get to temp it shuts off with the blue led light.

Over all for the money I’m happy. It’s gorgeous!

Cosmo COS-965AGC 36 in. 3.8 cu. ft. Single Oven Gas Range with 5 Burner Cooktop and Heavy Duty Cast Iron Grates in Stainless Steel Review:

These high quality appliance can boil a very large pot of water in few minutes. My wife and I weren't sure about the center burner but now we use it almost every single time we cook anything.
My house is a fun and safe place for a lot of people, and my nice stove stays cooking large meals all the time.

Frigidaire FFEF3054TS 30 Inch Electric Freestanding Range with 5 Elements, Smoothtop Cooktop, 5.3 cu. ft. Primary Oven Capacity, in Stainless Steel Review:

I really like the “quick boil” feature. This range has definitely exceeded my expectations. I was a little worried about keeping the smooth too clean because I’ve heard this can be an issue, but the surface cleans up beautifully.

Avanti GR2013CSS Gas Range, 20", Black Review:

Very handsome unit. Safety features (read: clicking) to make you aware of flowing gas is annoying but all new ranges do that, I think.
This range seems to have all the same features as any full size top of the line gas range. It feels sturdy.
The unit was missing a screw for the railing of a bottom drawer. Rats.
I called Amazon and they said they couldn't help with the screw but would gladly take the range back. For a twenty cent screw?? Nope.
However, they insisted on extending my Prime when I declined a discount. The rep's idea, not mine.
Then I called Avanti. With two minutes they took my shipping info and said they'd send out a whole new drawer assembly because they don't carry the screw.
All in all, this speaks awfully well of both Amazon and Avanti. I hope this was helpful.

ZLINE 48 in. 6.0 cu. ft. 7 Gas Burner/Electric Oven Range in Stainless Steel (RA48) Review:

This range arrived within a week of ordering it. We were in the middle of a remodel and didn't get to open the box for two months, but when we finally opened it, it was perfect. It really is a beautiful range, and I especially like how the oven racks glide out.

The grill is hard to clean. Its super heavy, and too big for the dishwasher. Not sure how to get it clean after just grilling sausages.

I'm disappointed that it doesn't have a self cleaning feature. That means a lot of extra work that you don't have to do if you buy another brand, but its still worth it.

The size is really handy. Its more powerful than your usual stove, and nice to be able to do so many things at once.

I would buy it again.
