Although it did a good job of releasing the lint, more assistance is required to remove all of it. With the idea that the vacuum hose would help remove the lint as it was loosen by the brush, I first placed it outside the home. From the inside of the home, I was pushing the bush outside. There wasn't much vacuum pull. I pulled the brush out after running it back and forth a few more times. I then got my leaf blower and put it inside the house's dryer vent, running it for a few minutes. That caused a large amount of lint to be pushed outside. I think this performed a nice job overall, however I would suggest that people get a leaf blower or something substantial to help force the lint out after brushing. The tool could be a little bit simpler to use if it came with an adaptor to convert the final thread to a typical hexagonal form so that it could be used with the majority of the current generation of cordless drills. I had to look for my ancient twist-tightening electrical drill.

I'm thrilled with this purchase. It came on schedule. It is well crafted and most likely will last a lifetime. I got the black, 9 x 18 print (see pictures). Screws were provided, and the packaging arrived perfectly intact and well-insulated from harm. There is an interior border of mesh that can rest on the top surface of the flue during installation, but I felt that there was not enough material there for the screws to grab onto without possibly breaking or cracking the flue casting, let alone potential problems with wind causing it to become loose over time. In order to use the friction produced by bending back the mesh and attach it with screws, I made the decision that it would be preferable for it to sit all the way down the extended portion of the flue. It finally seated properly after a few attempts at bending the internal mesh and then gently tapping the cover into place until it bottomed out on the outside part of the chimney. This made the fit really snug, which was precisely what I wanted. The screws were then perfectly fastened all around. On the roof, I gazed around. The only chimney cover in the area belongs to me.

There were no issues running it down or back up; it functioned well. If you have a metal liner, you must use a poly brush; otherwise, you risk scratching the liner, which will lead to creosote buildup.

I'm using this to purge my four "30 feet or so is the length of the dryer vent line.Since I have a removable cleanout near the dryer and the soffit vent is simple to remove, I started by using a shop vac to suction a short rope through the pipe (knot a thin plastic shopping bag on the end of the rope and let the suction draw it through the pipe).I attached a little 1/4" nut with a 1/4-20 coupler nut "eyebolt to the brush's threaded end. I then secured a second length of rope to the brush eyebolt and the rope inside the pipe before pulling it through the dryer vent pipe and sucking up all the lint with the shop vac. This was really effective and removed an unexpected amount of lint from the pipe. I just went through the pipe once, and after I was done, I left the second rope there for the following time. The soffit vent became stopped in the days that followed due to a lot more lint, so the next time I'll take the brush back through the pipe a few times to get it all out. I had no trouble gently drawing the brush or rope through the pipe around each bend in my vent line, which has two 90-degree bends and a brief section of semi-rigid flex line at the soffit. Just make sure the knots are tight (i.e., if you can't tie one, tie many!).

This was ordered by my husband for our chimney. I don't know much about chimneys and have only twice assisted my husband in cleaning our ancient chimney, but I thought I'd share my experience in case it's helpful to someone. Our house is older, and the previous owners neglected to maintain the chimney. We ultimately had to remove years' worth of ash buildup and black slime. We had our own handles and an 8" circular chimney brush, but no luck. We purchased this 7" since our chimney was a non-standard size, and it was perfect. The buildup made the chimney tight to begin with, but the Rutland 7" brush did the trick. Both the chimney and my husband are unkind to these kinds of gadgets. I can tell that it has withstood the beatings despite my husband's numerous complaints after two cleanings. I would suggest this sturdy small brush to anyone looking to clean their own chimney.
If your chimney needs cleaning, you will likely see one or more of the following signs: 1. There is a lot of soot around the fireplace. 2. The fireplace emits a lot of smoke. 3. The flames in the fireplace are low. 4. The chimney smells bad. If you see any of these signs, it's time to call a professional chimney cleaning service.

If you don't have a chimney brush, you can use a garden hose with a water-dispersing nozzle attachment. First, remove any debris from the fireplace.
