My second Eva-Dry unit is this one. Less than a half mile separates my home in west central Florida from the gulf coast. The only option is the EVA-Dry system. Although the "golden rod" electric dehumidifier is a fantastic product, I tried it, and even if it uses a modest amount of electricity, it does so continuously. I don't like the idea of my safe running a heater element constantly. It's wasteful and a little dangerous. The EVA-Dry technology, however, completely dispels that worry!If you're not aware with this straightforward technology, the EVA-Dry solution utilizes a packet of pure Silica Gel beads that is inserted internally. Since these beads are hygroscopic, they adore water. These beads literally "suck" water out of the air and absorb it into the pack like tiny "molecular sponges." The typically yellow beads gradually change to a dark green hue when this occurs. You'll know it's time to dry them out when that happens. The word "recharge" is frequently used by the manufacturer; the beads only need to be dried off. Spin it whatever you please. A little component inside the EVA-Dry machine functions as a food dehydrator. I pull the unit out of the safe when the beads' dark green hue indicates that they are full of moisture, take out the device's small built-in electrical plug, and then plug it in. The built-in dehydrator dries the beads in roughly 10 to 12 hours. Once the gel has dried and the beads have turned yellow once more, you're ready to go! When I unplug the device and flip the plug back into the EVA-Dry casing, the box is once more ready to use. I re-secure the box in the safe. Without cords, less power is required. The Silica-Gel beads start absorbing moisture once more right once. A thoroughly dried box will survive about two months in my safe (depending on how often I open the safe). Plug the device back in and re-dry the beads when the color changes.The simplicity is wonderful! No worries about anything running constantly, but still really effective. This is, in my opinion, the best course of action. And the cost? You can see how affordable it is, then.
