I decided I wanted to rekindle an old passion of mine, so I needed to restock.This beginner kit is excellent, but it is only that.The pouring pot is smaller than I had anticipated, but it did the job. To trim the extra from the wick stickers, I'd advise using a pair of "candle scissors." I used kitchen sheers by accident, and to get the residue off I had to use goof off and wash them twice. Additionally, they gave extra bases so that when I make small candles, I can cut one in half or to the length I need, connect a base to the cut wick, and then use it for another candle! Making candles has been a lot of fun for me recently. There have been many highs and lows in this learning process, but these wicks have performed admirably with each candle. The 8 oz straight-sided jars I'm using are ideal. I think some of the unfavorable evaluations are the result of inadequate research. There are wick centering devices that hold the wick stationary and keep them centered while you pour the wax to address the issue of standing unsteadily while doing so. I also glue mine to the bottom (as seen in the image), but they also sell wick sticker things that hold them in place. People's soot issues may result from using the incorrect jar or wick size, among other things. There are other factors other than the caliber of these wicks that could be the cause of that. The only thing I've learnt from this process is that creating candles is an art and requires a lot of experimenting with a variety of different factors. These wicks have worked well for me with the 8oz jars and soy wax gb444 that I am using. a steady, slow burn

I've had no problems with these wicks performing properly. However, they are too little to accommodate a candle the size of a mason jar (16 ounce). They work well in the smaller (8 ounce) Mason jars that I've started using them in! They are obviously much longer than necessary for a jar that small, but I simply clipped the wick's top off and it was no trouble at all. If you want to manufacture large candles, especially if you're using parafin wax, you'll need a bigger sized wick or you'll need to use 2-3 of these wicks per candle.

UPDATE: I lit the twisted wick and it burned perfectly! In comparison to before, it is not burning too quickly (but this may have to do with the size of the candle.... this is only my second candle) I'm satisfied with this product overall, and I'll keep using it for a while.The wick spool at Michaels was more expensive than what I could find online, so I ordered this. I combined it with an old candle and a 5pb bag that I had also purchased from this store to make my first candle. The wick burned very quickly, leaving little wick above the melted wax, and the flame was so small that if you moved the candle, the wax underneath would put out the tiny flame. I just constructed a second, smaller candle and twisted an extra-long wick because I had heard that these might be helpful. When I have a chance to burn the thicker, twisted wick, I'll update. The candle is also marked "manufactured in China," but I don't think that matters.

I'd burnt through a number of candles over the years, leaving some wax on the bottom of the jar, and over time, I'd gathered a lot of residual wax. To test whether it would even work, I melted all of it down and combined it with one of these wicks in a single, huge jar. Overall, the experiment was only partially effective, although none of the problems I ran with involved the wicks. Although I would advise making sure you place it into your jar correctly and make sure it's straight and even so it burns the wax appropriately, the one I used worked wonderfully and had no concerns with uneven burning. Overall, I think it's a fantastic product that offers amazing value. Blessings!
