I used this to connect a 25-foot Ethernet cable to another cord so that I could reach my laptop even though I was just a few feet away. To use with a keyboard that had a very short wire, I first bought this. Before this keyboard arrived, I was just using another one, but I really loved this keyboard, so I'm just going to keep using it. However, I use my computer to play Xbox so I don't bother anyone else in the home. This extension was exactly what I needed to stay connected to my computer without having to be so close to it because the wireless adapter for the machine is being used by someone else. My tower sits on the floor a little bit away from where I sit, but this addition doesn't make that a problem.I've bought a lot of cables in the past, and they would all break down after a while. I started buying these AmazonBasics cables a few years ago, wondering if they would be any better. So far, every cable I've bought from them still has a brand-new appearance and functionality. Even the HDMI cables, which other brands' normally break off at the end, are still sturdy. Now that I own this USB extension, I'm going to buy a few more to sort of custom put in some of my custom furniture throughout my home (usb ports in the coffee table to charge and connect to the tv without constantly moving the tv, etc.). You have to love computers, especially when there is disagreement over the best method for connecting the main computer to the display. In this instance, the device was a Dell, which only had one HDMI connector and two DisplayPort connectors. Therefore, I am left to figure things out when we use dual monitors because the systems are never set up properly. I had been using a USB to VGA adapter for the other and a VGA cord for one with an included VGA to HDMI adapter. For the most part, it was effective. Simply put, the displays only supported VGA connections. The HDMI adapter was the worst problem; if you bumped it even slightly or just felt like it, you either lost signal or, more amusingly, it rebooted the entire system without warning. After that, there was no video until you rebooted again.Then I remember about these adapters. After purchasing the two-pack, I left. Arrived the following day and put them in; they functioned flawlessly, but I was unable to see my primary monitor. Attempting to return with my previous adapters had the same outcome. Gotta give Dell credit for that. After doing a hard reboot of the system with the power button while leaving the adapters in the DisplayPort ports, it resolved itself. All I had to do was alternate between the left and right monitors. Once that was finished, they performed admirably. The VGA cable can actually screw into the adapter securely, which is the first feature I truly enjoy. The tangle of cords under the desk makes this a significant issue. The second was equally significant—the DisplayPort plug is locking. For others, it might not seem like much, but when everything is pushed around, packed into tight spaces, and generally mistreated, it is comforting to know that nothing can be pulled or knocked out.Overall, everything is working as it should. Just giving some background information for others who might find themselves in the same situation at some point or another, the price was excellent, and the problems mentioned above were caused by the system I was dealing with, not the adapters.

I recently purchased a new Roku television, so I had to decide what to do with my "old" Vizio TV/monitor and my first standalone Roku (this Roku 3 right here). Based on the reviews, I almost didn't buy this. I previously purchased a pair of a knock-off brand and experienced some of the same problems listed in some of the negative reviews associated with this product. However, after that, I purchased two orders of this product and they are unmistakably Apple brand. They function identically to the one that came with my iPhone 7 and are packaged in genuine Apple packaging. Personally, I wish Apple had kept the Auxiliary jack when they introduced the iPhone 7, but it is what it is, and I now require these small "extras." This one, at least, truly functions.Remember that Amazon will accept returns on damaged goods. For a full refund, I returned the counterfeit brand items that weren't functioning properly. No hassle

Wow, holy cow! I had no idea this adaptor would make my Mac run significantly faster. I have been using my 13-inch Macbook Pro (2015 version) at work, connected to a 26-inch monitor, and I use this for work. Everything was running smoothly, but I couldn't print since I needed a hard wired connection to the network. I got this in the hopes that it would speed up my printing process, but my Mac was already operating at a fairly high speed. Man, I was impressed. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'd rate this adaptor's speed-up as a 4 to a 9. I genuinely don't know whether my computer could run any quicker. Less time is spent loading web pages than I am typing the URL. This product deserves five BIG stars. Despite being a touch bulky, the laptop is concealed, so it's actually not a huge deal. I don't really have a problem with that because I don't have a problem with space, and I believe the somewhat larger size helps to prevent me from losing it. Overall, I was oblivious to what I was missing by staying disconnected. While wifi is fantastic when you're on the go, it cannot replace a hard connected connection, especially one that uses thunderbolt. I'm a bit of a tech freak, but this is really the fastest connection I've ever experienced on a computer. Excellent price and prompt delivery! I adore Amazon!

I have a pricey portable Western Digital RAID disk that connects via Thunderbolt 2 (see it at WD 2TB My Passport Pro Portable External Hard Drive - Thunderbolt - WDBRMP0020DBK-NESN). When the new 13-inch MacBook Pro models first debuted, they only had USB-C connectors (running Thunderbolt 3: still confused?). My portable RAID disk was thus rendered completely useless because there was no way to use it with the new MacBook Pro.Unless you, like me, are trying to connect a Thunderbolt 2 drive to one of the new Thunderbolt 3/USB 3 connections like those found on the new MacBookPros, this issue might never be a problem for you. You will need this adaptor, which enables such a connection, if you are, though. It's one of the few products of its kind available, but if you require it, you MUST have it. It is solidly constructed, and I've used it with a number of Thunderbolt 2 disks without any issues. With a big, rounded plastic body on one end, which is probably where the hardware and microchips to accomplish the data stream conversion between Thunderbolt 2 and 3 are located, it is physically larger than typical dongle-style connectors. (It also most likely explains why the connector costs so much because controller chips are needed to enable the Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 connection.)As a result of how well it performs and how well it is made, I definitely suggest it. But the price is high. Because Thunderbolt (either 2 or 3) is a contemporary, high-speed transfer standard, and you want to assure maximum transfer speed with uncorrupted data transfer, I would recommend this model over any other third-party brand if you need it.Due to the physical plug being identical to the "Mini Display Port" connector type with the "old" Thunderbolt 2 standard, the entire topic discussion gets even more complex. To further perplex us, add Thunderbolt 3, a concurrent upgrade to USB in the form of USB 3, the choice to make USB 3 and Thunderbolt 3 intra-compatible, and you're left sitting there occasionally scratching your head. You may read about how Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3 are interwoven in C|Net's article on the subject by searching the web (no pun intended). Despite all the confusion, if you have a Thunderbolt 3 connection and a Thunderbolt 3 drive, man, is it fast (shockingly, up to 40 Gbps). Be prepared for it because this is the direction connections are going. The important thing to keep in mind is that USB 3 describes a PHYSICAL CONNECTOR. Thunderbolt 2, Thunderbolt 3, DisplayPort, and/or USB 3.1 could all be supported by that USB 3 connector (!). Each PROTOCOL, such as Thunderbolt, DisplayPort, USB 3.1, and others, can operate on the USB 3 physical connector, but before using USB 3, you must ascertain which PROTOCOLS your device and computer support. Although the cable may physically fit, it won't operate unless the devices on either end (as well as the cable itself) support the same protocol. Whew.

I got this connection so that I could use it to link the smart boards at my school with my MacBook Air, which just has a power port and USB drives.
