I presently use these with the largest Marineland Penguin 350 Marineland Penguin Power FilterPower Filter produced in a 55 gallon freshwater tank. Tanks of 50 to 70 gallons can use it. In a 37 gallon freshwater tank, I have also used them for years with the smaller variation of the exact same filter. I adore them! If you want to clean them off and re-use them, they each last for months, giving you plenty of time to get by. This is something I've done multiple times with tremendous success. Under any condition, I have never had one tear or fall apart. These are filled with charcoal that has a gravel-like consistency and feels like tiny pebbles when the fabric is removed. As seen on the package, the filter cartridges have a rough blue substance on one side and a black plastic side with numerous, thin slits that allow water to easily pass through. Before using one for the first time, rinse it off thoroughly. NO black residue rinses out, something I've never liked happening with previous filter cartridges. I'll admit that I'm not very diligent about changing the water in my aquarium and only do it four times a year at most. With them plus the aforementioned filter (as well as a healthy biological ratio of fish in the tank, not too many and not too few), my sizable freshwater tank always stays clean and clear. These filter cartridges are of excellent quality, and the pricing from this Amazon vendor is UNBELIEVABLE! For the same price as one 3-pack at PetSmart or any nearby stores, I can obtain two 6-packs, or a total of 12 cartridges. These are the filter cartridges I advise using over all others, in my experience.

These filters are a straight replacement for the ones that are used in our rock waterfall, and considering that they are filtering the water for two frogs and a very large goldfish, they hold up surprisingly well. We just take these out, clean them, and replace them after the waterfall's water flow calms down. Normally, it takes us three to six months before we need to entirely replace them. To remove the carbon dust and activate the carbon, you must first rinse these with cold water after installation. Until we run out of uses for them, I'll keep purchasing these.Price, simplicity of use, and decent longevity are the benefits.Cons: available as a 3-pack (we use 2 at a time)

These are fairly good filters, however if you use the same kind in multiple tanks, they wear out quickly. I used to buy the constructed filters, but I recently switched to buying the ones you install yourself. Although making your own saves you money, it doesn't contain as much carbon as buying pre-made ones. Make sure to save the plastic components of this filter so you may reuse them if you've already bought the product and plan to assemble it yourself in the future. Overall, these filters are simple to use and appear to work well.

It is convenient to be able to customize the filter for the tank because I have a variety of fish and aquatic animals in several tanks. The filter bag, bag frame, and charcoal material are all packaged separately. The charcoal filter media they offer for my aquatic reptile tank is not nearly enough, so I utilize media from my bulk supply. It is plenty for my tiny fish tank, in my opinion. It is also convenient to be able to replenish them with any filter media that your tank may need. I'll continue to use them and advocate them to everyone. This is still excellent even if you are just starting off and require the filter for a single, constant reason. Why not set aside some cash for supplies or extra fish?

The fact that I can buy these replacement filter cartridges online from Amazon at a significantly lower price than at the shop is fantastic. Each cartridge lasts for about 5 weeks before I need to change it. I have a Tetra 19550 whisper aquarium filter in a 3 gallon tank, and the cartridge fits into it. The filter cartridge maintains crystal-clear water and removes all of the unpleasant fish tank scents. The black plastic must be placed towards the water so that any contaminated water passes first through it, then through the carbon, cloth, and finally the aquarium. The carbon may be forced into the aquarium if it is positioned the other direction.

After using Tetra filters my entire life, someone left me an old 5-gallon tank, so I had to purchase a new sort for it. I believe the cost is really reasonable, especially when compared to what you would pay at a retail establishment. So far, I've just used one of the filters, but I haven't encountered any problems. I'm hoping it still performs a respectable job with my tank despite its size and lack of significant carbon content. Although I like seeing the water run onto the filter and it makes it easy to notice when I truly need to change a filter, the filter that came with the tank is a bit unusual in general because it is open and flat.

Particularly when I brush down the green algae/mold on the inside of my operating tank, these filters do their job of filtering. Which means the water rapidly turns hazy, yet the filter effectively clears it.Since it is doing its job, it tends to look fairly gross after a while, so I replace it with a fresh filter and rinse the old one under the faucet till it appears [almost] as clean as an unused one before reintroducing it to service. The "fabric" outside of the three filters in this bundle begins to fray after about two and a half months continuous finger cleaning. I then buy another three at that point. It would be good if I could subscribe to them; who knows, maybe I can!Later.
