Best Equestrian Saddle Pads in 2020

Southwestern Equine OrthoRide Elite Premium Tan Topper and Chocolate Wool Bottom 1" Saddle Pad Review:

Bought this pad for a horse that needed something a little more built up at the shoulder. It is more firm, less flexible wool than say a 5Star brand pad, but it still good quality and putting my fitting my horse great. I’m feel like it is more comparable fit wise to a 7/8” pad even though it is a 1”. Overall satisfied with the product. Worth the money if you can’t currently afford a say CSI, that’s built up similar to this.

ECP Western Saddle Pad All Purpose Diamond Quilted Cotton Therapeutic Contoured Correction Support Memory Foam Pockets for Riding Review:

It arrived looking just like the photo with a vibrant, solid, color except that it has an obnoxious white logo brand tape down the spine area. I was fine with the small tag in the product photo but this garish logo lone really does go all the way down the spine! I bought this for a costume for my horse and the tacky white and black brand lettering ruins the look. I'll need to figure out how to paint it or something because right now the logo along the spine is pretty ugly and shows in some areas under the saddle.

Something to know is that this is not your standard Western saddle pad. It's like a western close contact pad. It's built just like an English all purpose pad so you may need to use it with another pad to work but, at the same time, it's a benefit as it's lightweight enough that if you remove the shims you can toss it in the washing machine and keep it cleaner than a typical western pad. It also has two pockets on each side, it would be good to have 3 but 2 work.

I've now used this pad every week for months and it's dirty but otherwise in GREAT shape, no stitching issues . So much so that even with the awful logo tape I'm looking to buy another. The shim foam has held up perfectly and my horse is comfortable.

Best Friend Comfort Plus Bareback Pad Review:

I love this pad! Bareback riding is wonderful but it can be pain in the tush some days. This pad is a perfect combination of cushion and stick. Padded enough that I wasn't feeling a spine on my rear but thin enough that I could feel every muscle. The suede like texture of the sides lends lots grip for you thighs. Very adjustable, fits our squishy Friesian stallion just fine with plenty of holes to spare for our Morgans, Hanoverians and Friesian Sporthorse crosses. Didn't feel any slipping or sliding to the sides in the turns. I definitely feel safer and more secure than purely bareback. The horses seem to enjoy time off from the saddle as well as not having their rider's bony behind digging into their backs. Easy to clean too, just wiped the underside down with a wet rag.

ECP All Purpose Diamond Quilted Cotton English Half Saddle Pad Therapeutic Contoured Correction Support Memory Foam Pockets for Dressage, Jumping, Riding, Training, Eventing, Showing Review:

Great half pad! Dense quality cotton with quality stitching that I expect will hold up well. Three shims per pocket (Four pockets total; two shoulder and two seat/back) that are thin but effective in helping make temporary saddle fit adjustments. What a world of difference to have a balanced saddle again! Horse feels better, and my position problems were fixed instantly. Highly recommend this product. Looks good under dressage saddle and fits under my 17.5" seat Trilogy saddle very well. I like the all-cotton option; never could figure out why I spent so much more money on a sheepskin pad when the sheepskin sits on top of the saddle pad anyway. Also, I prefer the lower profile look of a non-rolled half pad. If you have young horses, or horses that are just back to work after lay-ups, this is a wonderful tool to use while your horses build back muscle and change their shapes.

Weatherbeeta Prime All Purpose Saddle Pad Review:

Great color and fit. I used this with my Australian saddle, 20" and I liked the length of the pad down the side. Package came over a week and a half late with no communication from seller.

TuffRider Basic All Purpose Saddle Pad | Equestrian Bareback Riding Pad | Horse Riding Pad Review:

I love the fleecy lining. Just what I was looking for thickness wise. I tried it on my 23 year 16 hand TB with some withers. So nice to have a saddle blanket that goes past the end of the saddle, is longer on the sides. Did not remove the tags or use the velcro fasteners for first tryout. Saddle stayed in same position on the pad at end of ride. Wither clearance at the end of the ride was the same as when I first saddled up. Used in combination with ECP Cotton Quilted Half Saddle Pad on top and it was even more perfect for my older horse.

Weaver Leather Western Gel Seat Pad Review:

I bought these pads because we had a vacation planned that included a 18 mile horse ride in Belize. I had not ridden a horse in 45 years but I did remember saddle sores after a trail ride when I was young. Yes, I was extremely sore, all over, from the long ride but neither of us had any saddle sores. The pads worked really well and the man we rode horses with actually bought them from me for his customers to use on long rides. Great product.

Tough 1 EquiRoyal Square Quilted Cotton Comfort English Saddle Pad Review:

I ordered the purple one and I love it! But you should be warned it is NOT the light lavender color they show. It is half way between that and actual purple. I think its pretty, love it!

I haven't had this long enough to comment on durability but for the price I am not going to be disappointed if it doesn't last for ever.

It fit perfect with my Wintec AP Sport saddle
