You should never leave an ice pack on for more than 20 minutes at a time. If you do, you run the risk of causing frostbite.
There is some evidence that cold packs can help with healing. One study found that cold packs can help reduce inflammation and pain after surgery. Another study found that cold packs can help reduce swelling and bruising after an injury.
Yes, instant cold packs work by absorbing heat from the area around it, making it feel cold.
Cold packs work by absorbing heat from the area around them. This process is called conduction. The more heat that is absorbed, the colder the pack becomes. The cold pack will stay cold for as long as there is a temperature difference between it and its surroundings. When the pack is placed on the skin, it will eventually reach the same temperature as the skin. At this point, it will stop working.

I wish I had purchased this ice pack years ago. I've experienced persistent back discomfort for more than ten years. I had surgery four years ago, and the hospital was kind enough to send me home with four ice packs that were roughly 5" x 10" in size. At first, we used them constantly, but now, I use them more frequently—about three to four times per day. They were fantastic at first, but eventually they started to leak and break down, so it was time to replace them. I bought two distinct brands. This is my preferred option. Over the course of an hour or longer, I can alternate between icing my back, both hips, and back, and it will still be so chilly that any moisture still results in a thin layer of frost on the exterior! It has enough weight to prevent sliding off and is flexible enough to bend over my hips. My previous ones would freeze solid, so it was important to lay them down with the gel evened out to avoid having a very lumpy and uncomfortable surface. This one is still flexible after being removed from the freezer. Even if it seems to take less time to freeze it flat than folded, you don't have to worry with it as much. A camping trip with it is much better. The freezer in our camper doesn't get as cold as the one in the house. After being out of the freezer for 10 minutes, my previous packs were hardly usable. These remain cold and perform their duties for a full week or longer. I'll be purchasing two of these, one for my mother and one for me.

Better than the ACE piece of trash by SO MUCH! Why? Due to the fact that, unlike the ACE big cold compress, the FlexiKold pack's edge seams are sewed rather than bonded or thermally connected. I played ice hockey goal for more than 40 years before having to give it up due to various L4/L5/S1 low back, rotator cuff, and knee issues. NSAIDs and cold packs are my life after the workout and golf. The ACE packs endure for about 6 months before a seam breaks and the ghastly, gooey insides of the cold packs come slithering out. I've done that a total of four or five times in the last two to three years, and each time the ACE packs leaked, it was a bother and I grew tired of stuffing them in a ZipLoc bag to keep the goo off my hands and clothes. My physical therapist uses FlexiKold packs every day in his office, and he informed me they last years with just 4-5 uses per day. I bought the FlexiKold items after seeing them on Amazon. I'll report back if I have any issues down the line, but in my opinion, the FlexiKold gel pack's quality is much higher than that of the ACE items. There is a picture of the new FlexiKold pack sitting on top of my ACE cold pack. You can see that the ACE bandage's edges are either thermally or visibly sealed, and when pressure is applied to the pack, such as when applying it on your low back, the seam finally breaks. The FlexiKold pack is enclosed in a ripstop nylon bag, and all of the edges are stitched with cloth trim. Although the FlexiKold costs a little more up front, it ends up being significantly less expensive if I don't have to replace it every six months.

I give these products a perfect 5 stars for what they are. I've suffered from two pretty bad injuries that have caused me a lot of suffering. However, unless I have a headache, the purpose for which I utilize them the most has nothing to do with discomfort. I have sleep apnea in addition to nighttime congestion issues. I'll be fine if I can get my head to open and put on my mask since the air rush keeps my airways open. I have no idea why! I will not use decongestants, even though there are occasions when I am unable to breathe through my nose. Living in a chilly region for a while taught me that going outside to get some fresh air was typically all I needed to do when I was congested. Additionally, I've discovered that placing my head in the freezer when it's hot occasionally helps. But it's not always simple or practical to do that. Then I came across these tiny cold packs. All I have to do is position the gel pack with the fabric side facing my forehead between my sleep apnea mask and my forehead. I place a paper towel against my skin to protect it if the gel pack is frozen. I do, however, keep some of these in the fridge, so if they are not frozen, I may apply them to my skin right away. Thus, these have been really beneficial in clearing my clogged head and preventing the need for decongestants. They are also useful when combined with a flexible ice pack, which is another thing I enjoy about them. These ice packs don't keep cold for very long when used alone. However, if you freeze them and then sandwich a larger ice pack between your body and the hurting area of the injury, it will perfectly conform to the body, even if it is close to or around the bone. They remain cold for a lot longer, which in my opinion promotes faster swelling reduction. They work well as a barrier between a bra strap and my shoulder as well. They can be applied in a variety of ways, wherever there is discomfort.

After getting my hand burned by some scorching water, I purchased them. I applied an ice pack made of ziplock bags full of ice cubes to my hand to relieve the burn after 20 minutes of running it under cold water. Ice cubes in a zip-top bag are terrible! The cubes were quite heavy, wouldn't stay put, and melted very soon. Even though I had some ice packs in the freezer, I tried using them, but they were too bulky and didn't conform to my hand until they were almost totally melted. The flexible nature of these gel packs allows them to completely conform to my burned hand. I appreciate that there are two of them. I simply remove the one from the freezer as soon as one has totally melted. After all, burns do not miraculously disappear after 20 minutes of application of an ice pack. Instead of waiting till you are burned and wished you had this kind of stuff, acquire it now. Place your order right away! Lol.

The ideal size for either the back of the neck or the forehead, these are soft and moldable, keep cold for a long time (longer than the PEAS ones). I require cold packs for migraines, but the hard, solid ones are so uncomfortable and don't stay cold for very long. The older one I have in the freezer is full of oddities and frost from the PEAS ones (with the little blue and orange beads inside a clear pack), which don't keep things cold for very long. Based on the reviews, I gave these a try. Many reviews I read claimed that they were too solid and hard when first taken out of the freezer, but this was undoubtedly not the case for me. Straight from the freezer, mine remained soft enough to mold against my neck or forehead. To protect my skin, I do wrap them in a single, thin dishtowel, putting just one layer of fabric between me and the cold compress. They do take some time to fully freeze once they have thawed, but if you alternate them, they do cool down rather quickly. I'm going to order a few more to switch between on terrible days. I highly advise these!

Let me tell you the story of trying to discover the ideal ice bag, at the risk of appearing obsessive.I recently had both of my knees replaced. Needless to say, I had to constantly apply ice to my knees both before and after the procedure. I experimented with every ice bag, ice pad, and ice system imaginable during those two years. My evaluation of each method is as follows:REUSABLE GEL PADS: These are typically blue, plastic, packed with gel, and freezer-safe. These have the advantage of not leaking, being reusable, and forming in various places throughout the region. They lose their cold rapidly, which was a deal breaker for me. To make sure you have it when you need it, you should store a lot of them in your freezer. Additionally, they do not become as cold as a typical ice bag.The best ice bags, in my opinion, are rubber. You can keep adding ice as often as you like. Compared to gel pads, they become substantially cooler. They are portable and practical for usage in hotels (if you travel like I do). The wrong bag, on the other hand, is worse than the gel pads. Rubber ice bags, in my experience, are prone to "condensation," and if you use them at night, you'll wake up to a wet mattress where the bag was. No fun.Again, the ice bag fabric is the finest overall. Fabric bags, however, can be exceedingly rigid and challenging to create around a joint or other place that you're trying to ice. Compared to rubber bags, they don't conform as well. And I discovered that they leak—I'm not sure why.THE BEST ICE APPROACH I'VE EVER USED IS THIS ICE BAG: The Mueller Ice Bag. Although it is soft like rubber bags, there is not as much condensation. They also DO NOT LEAK. The opening is large enough to fit any size ice cube, and the screw cap is made of soft, rounded plastic that never hurts when it comes into contact with your skin. The bag's "fabric" is flawless. The absolute bestI hope you heal quickly.

These are wonderful things. I have arthritis in both of my knees, particularly bad in one, and basically no soft tissue below the patella, but heat doesn't help, so this is just about freezing. I purchased a second set because I like the first set so much. That brings me to the only major negative I can mention from the cool side: depending on the temperature outside and how much my knee has already warmed up, the packs only stay cold for around 20 minutes or so. The remedy was straightforward, though; just grab a second. They do need some time to re-freeze, even though you definitely don't want to put 80 minutes of ice in at a time. One unexpected benefit is that my worse knee has a tendency to lock and try to bend in all kinds of directions that a knee shouldn't. The strap has a flexible Velcro attachment, allowing you to adjust how tight or loose it is fastened. A decent flexible knee brace would be tight enough to act as support while still allowing for some walking. Although I don't have any plans to test the heat option, the combination of direct cooling, skin-protecting fabric, and as much or as little bracing support makes this a winner in my book. Just 40 years ago, when I first started injuring bodily parts, I wish I had these.

After giving birth to my daughter last week, I truly enjoy the how this lotion feels on my lady parts! I've tried the Tucks pads, but this liner has a better aroma and feel. Although I enjoy that the liner is thin, it can bunch up when I'm moving around, therefore I'm only giving it four stars.

I've had this item for a month now. I wanted something portable to keep in the freezer at work after rotator cuff repair surgery and returning to work 3.5 weeks later. This comes after using a Rx ice maker that I had to rent post-surgery at a steep expense.Although there have been some complaints about packs leaking on the website, my physical therapy practice utilizes this brand, so I figured it was worth the money to try it out. I've never been happier. The ends of the pack deliver much-needed cold therapy to the areas on the front of the shoulder/arm and armpit that become inflamed after surgery and during PT. The pack has a good weight to it, and the rounded edge folds over the top of the shoulder/bicep. Unlike typical hard or soft packs, this one has a good weight to it and sinks right in, fitting to your shoulder all the way down the front and back.I've had no problems with leaks thus far, although I do take careful care of them.I don't sit back in a chair or bed while wearing it to put pressure on the seams, and I don't squeeze the pack into shape when it's just taken out of the freezer. I'm storing them flat in the freezer as directed (not folded) within the freezer door. Some of these poor reviews, in my opinion, are the result of people not exercising the required caution and due attention, as well as perhaps buying fake goods.Overall, this is definitely worth the small amount. Purchase many so that you will always have one available.
Rapid cold packs are designed to provide immediate relief from pain and swelling. They can be used for a variety of injuries, including sprains, strains, bruises, and headaches. Most rapid cold packs will last for about 20 minutes.
Single use cold packs stay cold for approximately 20 minutes.
You can use a cold pack as many times as you need to, but it is important to make sure that you follow the instructions on how to properly care for the cold pack. After each use, be sure to clean the cold pack with soap and water. You should also store the cold pack in a cool, dry place.
A cold pack is a better option than ice because it is specifically designed to provide relief from pain and swelling. Ice can cause tissue damage and is not as effective at reducing swelling.
A cold pack is a bag of ice or other cold source that is wrapped in a towel or cloth and then applied to the body. Cold packs are used to treat a variety of conditions, including headaches, muscle aches, and injuries.
