This corkscrew is heavy, to start with. It appears to be well-made and extremely durable. It's also quite attractive. The fact that I can now easily open wine bottles makes me really happy. Normally, my husband opens them for me, but recently, he had to spend several months overseas, leaving me all by myself to try to open them. With my second corkscrew last week, I was unable to remove the cork from a wine bottle at all. I pulled and pulled till I almost tore the cork to pieces, but it remained stuck. I have a few tips about champagne stoppers because I always keep an uncorked bottle of champagne in the fridge. Up until this one came along, the standard one (a silicone gasket that clamps on with two sides) was "as good as it gets." This one simply has a single swivel (compared to the TWO on the standard). One would assume that "two is better than one," wouldn't they? WRONG! This one replaces the two sides that clamp together with a single side that swivels and retains the stopper in place! Surprisingly, it also works!Someone very astute realized that the "secret" was to hold the bottle into the stopper rather than the other way around. The swivel clamp works to secure the bottle by firmly tucking under each bottle's rounded extruded glass lip—you almost have to see it to believe it. No of the brand, the top of every bottle of champagne has an extruded circular "lip," which is something I've never even noticed! Some ingenious designer took advantage of the fact that that design is standard around the world to create a clamp that will hold the BOTTLE with the stopper fitting tightly as a result of that design (as opposed to the previous 2-clamp model designed to hold the STOPPER).Clear? Not really? To kind of grasp it, you kind of have to see it, like I said... Almost the same price as the standard one, but considerably better. You'll see if you try it.

I won't ever have to inquire, "Where's the wine opener?" Have you got a wine opener? I bought three of these and placed them in thoughtful locations on my bar, boat, and overnight bag.
