The fact that these feeders are plastic strikes me as their major drawback. They feel like plastic water bottles, not even a hard plastic that you may mistake for glass. I'm worried about how well they'll hold up when the summer heat waves hit. Summers in the high 100s don't normally go well with plastic.However, there were two things that I appreciated right away. Leaks appear to be prevented by the way the bottom portion of the base twists and locks onto the top portion of the base (part with the feeder holes). I particularly appreciate that the feeder's hook-attached top piece can be removed, allowing the feeder to stand by itself while I fill it.I'll attempt to update my review with my hummingbirds' thoughts on these later because they haven't had a chance to decide how they feel about them just yet. I'm hoping they favor this feeder design. It should last a day because of its size before I need to replenish it. (My feeders typically attract 40 to 50 hummingbirds or more. I'm constantly searching for larger feeders because they use at least 1-2 gallons of nectar daily.)A new star was added since my hummingbirds enjoy the feeder and when they're happy, I'm happy.

I've tried several different hummingbird feeders, and each kind seems to have advantages and disadvantages. A model like this one, which has a glass holder with a solid plastic bottom bird sitting area, is what I often opt for because the ones with metal bottoms seem to corrode fairly easily and I prefer to avoid the all-plastic variety. The primary problem with glass ones is that they appear to fracture and break after a few years of use, as has occurred to me the last three times I've bought them from various brands. Since this is the first product from this brand that I have tested, it is unknown how long this particular feeder will last.When my specific feeder was delivered, there was a small chip at the thick glass top, just beneath the upper moat/hanging area. I'm not sure how the damage happened or whether a manufacturing error went unnoticed. I filled the feeder with water to test it out first, and it didn't leak, so it doesn't seem to have an impact on it. I chose to keep the chip since it was near the top, where there would be food.The yellow blooms appear to be very easy to fall out, however the plastic base is fine and provides a place for the birds to sit. Although it makes them simple to clean, I wish they had a locking mechanism so they would remain in place a little bit better. The yellow blossoms do have one benefit, though—they appear to draw birds. In any case, it is simple to unscrew the base and clean it, which is necessary to prevent bacteria and mold from growing on the feeder.The smaller feeder is a plus for me because it prevents solution waste and deterioration. Given the size of the opening, filling it is not too difficult. This is the first one I've acquired with an ant moat, which is essentially a feature in the top that looks like a bowl that you fill with water. It does appear to aid in preventing ants from accessing the fix. Personally, I use boiled sugar water, which seems to work just as well as the commercial products, and the hummers absolutely adore it.Glass appears to be sturdy and of good quality. We'll have to wait and see if it can withstand the humid summers here without fracturing and cracking. Although little, the metal hanging hook is reliable and effective.With the exception of the minor chip, the feeder appears to be working properly so far and has no leaks. If there are any problems with the feeder's durability, I will update my review.4 stars

Hummingbirds are year-round residents where I live in a suburb of Washington State. It is a constant struggle for me to keep the little terrorists in sugar water despite having about a dozen feeders. These feeders were added to the mix, and so far I'm pleased with them.The Positive Stuff* Start with the basics. They attract the birds. Our birds are a little picky about their feeders and won't eat from the inexpensive, plastic ones from the dollar store; I assume this is because of the plastic's smell. All of our feeders are plastic because I steer clear of glass due to the risk of breakage during windstorms. These feeders were welcomed by the hummers right away.* The base can be cleaned by separating it into two pieces after unscrewing it from the reservoir. Every month or two, I usually clean and disinfect our feeders, and these have been simple to clean. Both leakage and self-disassembly have not occurred with the feeders while they were in use.* There is a small ant trap reservoir underneath the hook, but I usually can't fill it in time during the summer, and the ants usually attempt a few successful attacks throughout the year. A small amount of "tanglefoot" applied to the hook aids in that, and some of our hummers enjoy the occasional ant snack as a bonus. There is no such thing as wasp proof, at least not in this region of the country, so I don't even bother worrying about the feeders being wasp proof. The best thing you can do is regularly hose down the wasp traps you keep close to the feeders.The Unfavorable Things* The reservoir size is the main issue. The local birds can empty this thing in a day or two during peak feeding times even though I have other feeders that have twice (or more) the capacity.In conclusion,These feeders make the birds happy, and they don't give a damn if there are yellow flowers or not. Even though I wish they had a larger reservoir, they instantly recognize the feeders when they are present. Such is life. They have endured freezing temperatures while outdoors and have survived freeze/thaw cycles without any issues. (Hummingbirds are year-round residents here). The small reservoir is a mixed bag in the winter because it freezes more quickly but thaws out more quickly inside the house.

I'm glad I took a chance on this because birds are attracted to this pattern in a big way! It is easy to fill and entirely disassembles for really quick (and thorough) cleaning. It is straightforward, appealing, affordable, and very cleverly made. I was willing to spend much more on a feeder, but the majority seemed to be either overly functional or had a serious design issue.By the way, the best technique to keep squirrels out of any feeder is to: I've tried and bought everything from different feed to anti-squirrel baffles, and I've searched high and low. Combine HABANERO TABASCO SAUCE and SUNFLOWER OIL at a ratio of around 1:5.In a five-pound bag of seed, add a tsp to a tbs of this mixture and stir it in. The oil is also a fantastic nutritious supplement for birds, and the seed won't rot or make them uncomfortable when it's spicy. The best part is that it only takes one or two troublemakers before word spreads and the squirrels stop attempting to enter your feeders! I hope this helps; it only costs approximately $4.00 to try.

Although I'm not often impressed, THIS tiny feeder is extremely nice!Both filling and attaching the top to the tube are extremely simple processes. I've seen a lot of complaints regarding the top being "broken" or customers being unable to attach it to the feeder's body. Most of these assertions are false. Fair enough, Perky Pet didn't provide directions on how to attach the top, but come on, it's not complicated. By laying it over the body and pressing the tiny button while pulling UP on the wire hook from which it hangs, the top can be fastened. By doing this, the feeder will be secured in place and be free to hang without tilting and spilling the meal. It only took me 30 seconds to realize this.Here are this product's benefits and drawbacks:1) Simple to put together and hang.2) Generally squirrel-proof provided it is mounted properly. Only by knocking the hanging wire and causing the feed to flow to the ground can squirrels gain access to the food. However, even if they are successful, they only receive a small amount, and even then, only when the feeder is nearly empty.3) Birds adore this object to the hilt.4) Handles the weather well. Although my top has experienced some minor deterioration from the outdoors, it is still quite useful.CONS1) There will be some spilling. The food tube is more prone to tilting and leaking the less food is in it. It's still rather little.2) Cardinals and finches are the only tiny birds that should truly be using the feeder. Despite this, blue jays in our region continue to frequently gravitate toward this object. Unfortunately, because they are a bit larger (and messier) than smaller birds, jays have a tendency to tilt and scatter food more. Again, keeping it filled with seed will greatly decrease tilting. Spillage will become more noticeable as it becomes more empty, but it won't be bad.Conclusion: BUY THIS FEEDER. It's a fantastic value for the money, will look AMAZING in your yard, and will make you a hero to birds everywhere.

I can't say enough positive things about it. Every day, we receive at least a dozen small guests. Although it has a considerable capacity for seed, we must often restock it due to bird attacks throughout the day. Wagner's 62059 Greatest Variety Blend, 16-Pound Bag is the seed I purchased. The birds are enthralled by it. Since I opened the bag at the end of December, there is still 1/4 to 1/3 of it left. How can you go wrong with a feeder that costs $8? For Christmas, I searched far and low for a great, decorative feeder for my boyfriend, but all I could find were those basic, costly tubular feeders. I was quite dubious about this feeder considering its price, but it's great. It appears to be real metal and to be an exact replica of the photograph. In any case, the plastic is an advantage because it at least won't rust. The seed dispenser is made of transparent plastic. Contrary to what a different reviewer claimed, this feeder does have a hanger. Given that the hanger runs directly through the middle, it is a component of the feeder. The *only* disadvantage of this feeder is that it won't support any birds much larger than a sparrow or a finch, so if you're trying to pull in bigger birds, you might want to look elsewhere. Except for that, this feeder works great! I've uploaded a picture if anyone wants any additional proof.

But is it the best option for you?One of my many No/No Feeders is twelve years old. But because I have so many different styles, I've developed a strong preference for certain aspects. The first is Large Capacity. 2) Filling speed and ease (important factors when trying to fill numerous feeders while standing outside in the chilly winter). Because it only stores a little quantity (2 1/2 pounds) in comparison to the others, costs more than some of the others, and requires a little more effort to fill, I docked this one star from its rating.For people who are just starting out in bird feeding and don't have a lot of money to spend trying out ten different kinds and brands until they find one that suits them, I also get a little finicky about the "hype" and how they advertise these things.The "blurbs" adjacent to the image of the feeder say: "contains more than 2.5 pounds of the most popular seed for wild birds, black oil sunflower seeds.15-20 birds can be fed at once, and the large feeding area implies fewer refills."(Actually, this one only holds 2 1/2 pounds of seed; a large capacity requires fewer refills. With a large feeding area (which is great!) and the capacity to feed 15-20 birds at once, but just 2 1/2 pounds of seed, you might only need to fill it once every day.Beautiful Cardinals are timid and don't tend to swarm feeders in large groups, though they do enjoy a large eating area, as anyone who has seen one can attest. They also typically avoid the feeder if different species of birds are resting there. You're wasting your money if you purchase this in the hopes of seeing 15 to 20 Cardinals at the feeder at once.However, given the large perch, if you're just starting out and have a few birds around, this can draw a few Cardinals for you.If you already have a lot of birds, my first recommendation would be No/No Forest Green Hourglass Bird Feeder GHG00318 because it is somewhat more affordable, carries almost 4 pounds more seed, and is easier to fill than this one. And even without the large perch, I still see Cardinals at the Hourglass feeder. So you have an option.I hope this information will be useful to you as you choose.

Although the H Potter Fly Thru Bird Feeder is VERY beautiful, the birds do not appear to enjoy it.Every season, I like to switch out the feeders we use and downsize from the bigger feeders we use in the summer to the smaller feeders we use in the fall. Because the H Potter Fly Thru Feeders looked excellent for the price and had such great ratings, I decided to give them a try and bought three of them.Even though the feeders' speedy shipping, excellent packaging, and overall appearance and quality delighted me, when I installed one of the feeders and set it out, I quickly realized that it was simply too little for even the little fellas. The feeding space is actually too small, thus the feed hasn't been used since it was placed outside. Our family of sparrows, chickadees, and titmice likes to eat together, but since there is nowhere for them to perch and enjoy their food, it is obvious that they do not like this feeder because they have to sit IN the seed to eat, and it can only fit a maximum of two to three of the little guys while the other feeders we were using could fit up to ten of the little guys.The bird feeder is exactly as described, with the exception of the lack of seating for the tiny fellows. It is stylish, strong, and just needs a few minutes to put together. It also includes a large hood in a lovely bronze hue with a large brass hook. However, the feeder's diameter and height are deceiving. Although the feeder is 14 inches long when measured from top to bottom, the feeding area itself is only a few inches tall since the huge, 10.5"-diameter hood is so low on the feeder. These feeders have a relatively limited feeding area, making it impossible for larger birds like cardinals, juncos, and starlings to eat there.The feeders are attractive and reasonably priced considering their construction, but aside from this, none of our birds seem interested in using them, therefore I will have to return them.
