A tarp can be used instead of landscape fabric in some cases, but it is not as effective and may not last as long. Landscape fabric is designed to allow water and air to pass through while blocking out light, which helps prevent weed growth. A tarp will block out light but does not allow for air or water to pass through, which can lead to problems with drainage and erosion.
Garbage bags can make effective weed barriers, but they're not ideal for long-term use. They can tear easily, and they don't allow water or air to pass through. If you're using them in an area where weed growth is a problem, you'll need to replace them regularly.
Weed fabric is a material often used in gardening to prevent weeds from growing. However, some people wonder if plant roots can grow through weed fabric. The answer is yes, plant roots can grow through weed fabric. However, the fabric will prevent the roots from spreading out, so the plant will be smaller than if it were grown in soil without the fabric. If you're using weed fabric in your garden, make sure to check it regularly and pull any weeds that do manage to grow through.
Weed fabric is a great way to control weeds in your garden. By using weed fabric, you can prevent weeds from germinating and growing. You can also use weed fabric to smother existing weeds.

As a result, both the quality and price are unquestionably superior than the typical offers from Lowe's or Home Depot. appears to be two to three times as thick as Home Depot's Vigoro lawn cover. (For a side-by-side comparison, see the photographs.) Hoople at the top and Vigoro at the bottom are held up in the same location a few inches above the ground in the daylight so that you can better observe the thickness. One might estimate that purchasing this much of cover from Home Depot rolls would cost around $120. To achieve the same amount of sun blocking with the Vigoro, I needed to stack roughly three layers together. In contrast, at the low end, this should last 6 years or up to 15 years depending on your climate since Vigoro is said to last between 3-5 years. This appears to be the stuff you're looking for if you want something better than average that is still porous, will let nutrients get into the soil, and won't pool water. Will this continue as long as Vigoro or longer? I wouldn't want to be arrogant, though. I might revise my analysis in 6–15 years to provide a conclusive response.Additionally, for this cost, you may double the ground cover for added security and protection without breaking the budget.

Over the weekend, my landscaper spread out about 3/4 of the roll. He remarked that the landscape cloth was first-rate and wished that more clients would choose it over the less expensive and lightweight variety. It is a thicker fabric with a permeable weave to allow water to drain. The roll includes yellow guiding lines that appear every foot. This may seem like such a small item, but it was obviously designed by somebody who have installed a lot of landscape fabric in their time. Those lines really help with precision! I enjoy recommending to others. Consider it an investment.

As of now, so nice. In my front yard, where we removed the grass and replaced it with plants and mulch, I used two of them. The fact that the weeds have not emerged after roughly 3 weeks is, in my opinion, a great indication that this method is working. I had to fit the sheet around a few bushes, so it is simple to cut. Just in case, I secured it with yard stakes. would repurchase if necessarySept. 20, 2019 Update: Even though I've tried barriers from large box stores like Lowe's and Home Depot, this is by far the best I've ever used. They have become completely blocked by weeds, which is very disappointing. However, no weeds have managed to penetrate the substance of these barriers. Over everything else I have recently purchased, I would absolutely recommend.

reading testimonials for a different brand I saw some users complaining that it wasn't water permeable, and they had provided evidence for that claim in the form of images and videos. That is among the factors that led me to select this brand. When it first arrived, I tested it out and discovered that water quickly seeped through this cloth. Although easy to cut, it also appeared to be powerful. Since then, I've bought more of the same and plan to buy even more for a different project.

This was purchased for my father-in-law. Since we live in Michigan and he doesn't want the plant to perish from the cold, he wanted to wrap something around a plant in the backyard.According to my father-in-law, everything went off without a hitch. When I visit, I'll upload a photo. To hold it in place and prevent it from touching the tree, he wrapped it twice around the fig tree and placed wood on its edges.

I notice that many reviews on here show photographs of weeds poking through the barrier, but I believe that this is because people don't understand how this stuff actually works. When I laid this cloth down approximately a year ago, there was only soil underneath it and nothing on top. Throughout that time, NOT ONE WEED HAS GROWN THROUGH IT. I have another area with this fabric and 1/4" Montana river rock on top, and in the past year, I've only had VERY SMALL AMOUNTS OF WEEDS, at most 5 or 6.Although weeds and grass are growing into the fabric in another location where I applied mulch, I believe this is a problem with pretty much all fabrics. Sincere to say, there is no way to prevent such a thing that is 100 percent effective. Weeds will appear if a seed penetrates the material that is placed on top of the cloth and the substance includes growing nutrients (also known as mulch or crushed rock). Just like that.Making sure there is nothing underneath the fabric before placing it is the most effective thing one can do. One efficient technique involves placing cardboard or plastic on top of the soil, followed by fabric. However, you must still add 3 inches or more of mulch or bark chips on top of everything. The finest material for me has been Montana river rock; even though I just have a small layer of it (1"), it has held up well with this fabric. Anything that creates fine grain sand, such as crushed pebbles or gravel, should be avoided since weeds can develop there if the pollen and other debris from neighboring flora mixes with it.

100% natural burlap; Helps seeds germinate by holding in moisture and preventing wash-away

I purchased this burlap and it works fantastically to line my planting boxes. Although I first had my misgivings, I'm willing to give almost everything a shot. I'm new to gardening and was seeking for a barrier that will prevent potting soil from leaking out of the huge holes I made in my planter boxes while allowing water to escape from them. Let me tell you, this was the perfect solution. Since the burlap is loosely woven, it is transparent. It won't prevent weeds from poking through, so don't use it as a weed barrier. I'm overjoyed with this buy.

The weed cloth is useful for pots outside. I didn't know that the delivery method required signing; I had to phone after the first effort, when no other attempt was made, to seek re-delivery, and the customer support representative reacted angrily to my polite request. For a product of this price, I believe ordinary delivery left at the door would be sufficient and could even save the sender money. In any case, the consumer should be informed at the time of purchase that a signature would be needed upon delivery.
You don't need to remove all the weeds before you lay landscape fabric, but it's a good idea to get rid of as many as possible, especially the big ones. Pulling weeds is a never-ending job, but it's especially important before you put down fabric because it will make it harder to get to the roots once the fabric is in place.
No, you do not have to remove grass before putting down weed barrier. You can lay the weed barrier down on top of the grass and it will eventually kill the grass underneath.
Pea gravel is often used as a ground cover in gardens. It is also used on paths and walkways. Pea gravel is a small, round stone that is about the size of a pea. It is usually made of granite, quartz, or limestone. Pea gravel is smooth and does not have any sharp edges. It is also very versatile. Pea gravel can be used to create a natural look in your garden. It can also be used to cover up any ugly spots in your yard. Pea gravel is also very affordable.
Cardboard is a great way to stop weeds. It is environmentally friendly and it works! Place the cardboard down on the ground and cover with mulch. The cardboard will block the sunlight and prevent the weed seeds from germinating.
You can't really stop weeds from growing permanently, but you can certainly discourage them! Weeds need sunlight and water to grow, so keeping your garden well-watered and free from debris will help. Pulling weeds when they're young is also effective, as is using a mulch to prevent them from sprouting in the first place.
