If the water is green when I open the pond in the spring, I just drain it down till there is only 2 inches of water left. I then use a hose to fill the pond. We just relocated, and our new house has a tiny goldfish pond with three goldfish in the backyard. The water was covered in a thick layer of algae, so I purchased an algae cube, which helped, but since it's fall now, I though I'd try this. literally changed in a matter of days from green to clear. Time will tell if it aids in the decomposition of the leaves, but so far, I'm impressed.However, you will really gasp for air when you smell this stuff. This is one of the most revolting things I've ever smelled in my life, and I have a stronger stomach than the typical person. When I tightened the top after applying the first dose to my pond, the scent was so overpowering that I had to put the jar in a ziplock bag. I placed it into TWO plastic shopping bags and twisted them tightly since it STILL smelled. Though I had stored the multi-layered package in my garage below, the next morning I found my entire first level to be reeking. It is currently outside. As the temperature is about to drop, I purchased a frickin' $15 (!) 2.5qt OXO POP Container from Amazon.com. I need to return it because the dimensions listed on Amazon were incorrect (the container tapers, so the jar doesn't fit in the bottom). However, I should warn you all that this item stinks really strongly.

Update: On June 15, 2016, I bought a second package of these because I was so pleased with the outcomes. Then, I believe my turtles ate one after I used a few to get it going. Seriously, this morning it had barely partially disintegrated, and now it is gone. They are functioning normally, and this time they have built a new one up on the waterfall where they can't reach it. Never again will I be without these. Next time, I'll consider purchasing the large tub of them.My pond was a verdant, chaotic jumble. Before, I tried barley bales and drinks, but they had no effect. I'm glad I made the decision to give these algae control blocks a try. These were only sent to me two days ago, but already I can see my fish, turtles, and pond's bottom once again. Has a long way to go before it is completely obvious, but I am still surprised. Along with one of their sludge reduction blocks, I threw two of these tablets into the container. My pond is only a small premade plastic one that we purchased from Home Depot; it holds about 250–300 gallons. Nothing I have ever done has ever worked; summer is the worst since it is constantly covered in algae. The pond walls now free of the heavy algae that had been forming, and I can now see the bottom and my creatures once again. I can't comment to the safety of plants because I don't have any in my pond because the turtles devour them the moment I put anything in, but the turtles, goldfish, and mosquito fish are all fine. Although it doesn't seem amazing, if you had previously seen it... Two days ago, there were no fish or turtles to be seen. Once it is obvious, I will share another image and time frame. I currently keep five clown loaches, twelve GloFish tetras, two neon Danios, three Cory Cats, and one Sailfin Pleco in a 60-gallon freshwater tank.Even though it says merely carbon on the bottle, you must remove all chemical filtering in addition to any carbon. For instance, I have Seachem Purigen and ChemiPure Elite, both of which should be eliminated. I confirmed with Purigen that it should be taken out since it might take away or deplete the concentration, which would make the medication less effective. Carbon is also present in ChemiPure.Although it says on the bottle to change the water by 25% before each use, I changed the water by 50% for the first use. After that, I recommend and do 25% before each dose. You want to deplete the free flowing ich before treating since it will be more effective, which is why the initial shift was so huge.Although it is highly disputed, you should boost the water temperature to assist destroy the ich and hasten the process—but only if your fish can withstand it. I was able to elevate the temperature exactly to 86.5 degrees with the help of all the different fish I own, and anything above 86 degrees will successfully help eliminate most strands of ich.Make sure there is enough oxygen in the water before raising the temperature because doing so will reduce the amount of usable oxygen and increase stress. Because I have a power head, a HOB filter, a Fluval FX4 canister filter, and a flow rate of 20 times per hour, which results in gobs of exchange on top, I made sure I did. My fish haven't had any problems because the temperature was raised so high. This makes the ich-killing procedure more certain.I began with a half dose because my cats, loaches, and pleco are sensitive fish. They handled it nicely, so I gave them a 2/3 dose the following day. They all handled it nicely as well, so the following day I gave them all a full dose while carefully watching them all. The clown loaches in particular worried me, but they handled it well and there were no fatalities throughout the dosing procedure.You should also find out if the water conditioner you use will reduce the medication's effectiveness. Many of the water conditioners bind hazardous ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate while serving as reducing agents, so I know that Seachem prime does. To avoid this, you can prepare the water you'll use in advance—say, for 24 to 48 hours—because by then, it will be safe to use when you change the water. Additionally, taking medication to cure ich can throw off your filtering system, therefore you need replace some good bacteria because your bacteria colonies will suffer under the stress. I prefer to use Seachem Stability because it will help maintain your good bacteria levels high. While performing the water changes, I have been replenishing the good bacteria every three days. I confirmed this with Seachem as well, and it is safe to use with any ich medication.One final reminder: continue using the medication for an extra seven days even if there are no signs of ich on any of your fish. This will guarantee that there are no dormant, alive ich remain that are playing hard to get. You obviously do not want to go through this again, and neither do I. You can defeat the ich if you persist. The people who do not adhere to the directions are most frequently the ones that struggle and blame the product. Although the medicine is effective, it requires more than merely administering it and hoping for the best. You have to stick to the guidelines and win the battle. I hope that some of you can use this to keep your fish.I should also mention that I had a severe case of ich. Three of my loaches were in terrible condition by the time I caught it. It's likely that they already have very terrible conditions in their gills by the time you discover the white patches. I first tried the half dose, and when I saw that they all responded favorably to it, I decided to follow the 12-hour plan to get rid of it more quickly. The next morning, I saw that most of the white spots had vanished and that everyone was swimming more vigorously than before. This had no adverse effects. It depends on how severe your condition is, and you should keep a watchful eye out over the coming hours for any issues with any fish. Do a water change right away if you start to feel stressed out or have issues. Again, in my case, taking the 12 hour doses while closely monitoring had no adverse effects.Revision: 2/28/17My systems could manage 86.5.

I've updated my review and added that final star. My pond significantly cleared up after the first dose. With the help of the enzymes I use and the second dose of this, the algae is completely gone and I can see all the way to the bottom. And the temperature is rising slowly. prime time for algae growth. When it stopped looking like pea soup, I could see that my mosquito fish had many young, and they were all over the place! The mosquio fish, including the small little babies that I'm sure are especially delicate, are fine, and neither did this hurt my turtles or my enormous goldfish. The pond blocks were fantastic for me last year, but this year I'm not going to utilize them. this year's algae blooms might be of a different kind? The unknown.My pond has had a very difficult year this year. I am currently having a very difficult time keeping my pond clear because what worked previous year is not working this year. Update: My pond is now completely clear, so I didn't need to wait a few more days. Will continue applying this in addition to the algaecide.I discovered and utilized an algaecide for my tiny backyard pond last year, and it was a total success. We experienced a severe windstorm that evening, and one of my potted plants wound up in the pond. What a mess, more mess. I gathered all the trash I could with a net and anticipated having to drain and refill this week.When I step outside this morning, the algae is noticeably lessened even if it hasn't completely disappeared. I can see the bottom of the water, albeit it is still quite muddy. I thought it would be a complete mess with the algae being as severe as it was and then the wind storm, but it isn't. I believe because of this product. When I took the filters off and hosed them out, I observed that the sludge was a darker shade of brown than usual. I believe that this is garbage and other things flowing out. I gave it a second dose today in the hopes that it will return to normal within a few days. I must exert control immediately since it will only get hotter. Anyway, despite all the flaws, I think this works very well; it is lot clearer than I had expected it to be for today. Since we began keeping koi four years ago, I have used practically all of the API products. With the exception of Microbe Lift Kh, I also tried a number of items made by their rival Microbe Lift. If you have many issues, you can use all of the API products at once. Make sure you are using the proper product to address your issue. Because of this, API provides a solution for every kind of issue. We've grown quite a bit, and now we have an 8,000 gallon pond. We have a sediment tank, two bottom drains, a skimmer, a pump, a filter, and a UV lamp.Even though we have an excellent system, every week I measure the water quality and occasionally there will be problems. Because of this, I continue to use Ecofix frequently. The Ecofix bacteria breaks down any plant matter in the pond and is drawn into the sediment tank, maintaining low levels of nitrates. Then I just use a net to skim out anything that has collected in the sediment tank. Every month, we perform a back wash and a small water change. When we replace the water, we apply API Stress Coat. Ecofix contains microorganisms that break down matter and clusters things together for simple removal, but the matter still needs to be removed. It's not as if it will simply vanish from your pond, lol. Surely we desire. You can take what is left out with a net, a special vacuum to clean the bottom (I've never attempted this), or you can pump back wash your filter to get the gunk out of it. I've never tried using a vacuum because it's a severe approach to get rid of stuff and you have to get rid of all your fish or you'll have a Finding Nemo problem.I advise mixing a little Kh/baking soda with the Ecofix, depending on where your Ph begins. To regulate the Ph, I use it with Ecofix. My Ph drops when I use Ecofix if I don't add a bit. Before I realized this, I almost had a Ph crash. Be cautious because I only use a cup of baking soda for an 8000-gallon pond. When adding Ecofix, I've found that adding a little every other time works best for my pond. It's advisable to use less baking soda than you anticipate being necessary and take daily readings. That's how I calculated 1 cup. I buy test strips and liquid tests from API on Amazon to gauge product quality. (At this point, you might be thinking that I should own shares in API. Because this is what I have discovered works over trial and error, I exclusively endorse their items.No matter what product you use, make sure to adhere to the dosing recommendations and pond placement guidelines. Because they are unaware of the water volume in their pond, most people miscalculate their dosage. There are websites that make it simple for you to calculate your pond volume. Many individuals are unaware of how even the smallest error in dosage can affect the outcome and even their fish.
