Although customer service is really slow, I still think this product is good. But I DID discover something "the hard way." When I first started using the internet for phone service, the phone modem was located in the garage. My porting of my number from them to MagicJack went without a hitch. When I learned that my number had been picked, I exclaimed, "Wow!" I was about to give up when I went into my garage and noticed that my modem from the original provider was still glowing after 5 hours of trying to connect due to a busy signal and after more than 2 hours trying to contact with customer support (I did connect with them finally) (although not getting a phone signal anymore). It was "really miraculous" when I disconnected the modem because everything worked. It was a huge, giant DOH! ..... I'm posting this to help others: "make sure to disconnect your modem from your original provider if it's a separate modem"! In my head, I thought because I no longer received their service, I was good. However, I think magic jack was getting confused because the other modem was still "open," I guess, even though there was no signal going to it. Signal and speech quality are fantastic, so I'm finally satisfied.

Our two children, who are 7, and 9, don't yet own cellphones. Since we want children to be able to call 911 in an emergency and have a landline for babysitters, we are not yet prepared to do away with a landline. (I know that most teenagers have cell phones, but it gives us peace of mind.)This is SUCH a reasonable choice. Despite the fact that we mostly use our cell phones, having this alternative for $50 is absolutely worthwhile. We just decreased our cable bundle to only include internet and landline service, saving us $110 per month. Our payment has increased to $60 per month plus tax since the landline was removed from the bundle this week. Thus, the landline we had cost us about $40 a month. We have a year for $50. The math is simple. I'm happy with this choice.

For the past week, I've been using MagicJack (MJ) Express, and it's been faultless. I studied numerous articles and reviews on the various MJ types and watched numerous videos about them before I decided to replace my two POTS landlines. I therefore had reservations about switching. The MJ website's scant information also did not help. But it turned out that a lot of the information about MJ that can be found online is outdated and does not apply to the newest versions. I specifically observed that the MJ Plus was no longer available on the MJ website. The MJ Express, which I later discovered to be the most recent model, was advertised as having superior voice quality, being portable, and handling faxes without any issues or extra setup.Quickly and without any problems, my MJ Express was authorized and connected to my OTT DSL. I chose to get a new phone number because I reasoned that since it had not been used before, the number would be less likely to receive obnoxious calls. I had a few options for area code and exchange, and I was given a number that is simple to recall. There is no discernible ring-answer delay, the voice quality is better than the old POTS lines (which were good), the fax works well (and is compatible with the home answering machine), the connection for the home alarm system is stable, and there have been no unwanted incoming calls. In addition, I'm avoiding the $75 monthly cost of the two POTS lines that MJ replaced as well as the nonstop solicitation and political calls that went along with them.I have used MJ's tech support chat on occasion, and it was quite helpful to me. The technician was thorough, knowledgeable, and very nice. (And I assert that a person's success with MJ chat greatly depends on how precisely and fully he communicates his situation.)

It was fairly simple and straightforward to set up. The device mostly works as promised, however I've discovered that it resets itself once or twice a day after experiencing a snag. The analog phone plugged into the device was useless for roughly five minutes while it was being reset. The same outage did not occur on a VOIP phone that was plugged directly into the modem and was located next to the analog phone. Simply put, it is unacceptable for there to be a five minute telephone outage twice every day. My original plan was to keep my old analog phone and get rid of the VOIP phone, however that can no longer be done. The procedure of returning was simple. In fact, the simplicity of returning this unit led me to award them an extra star. After giving the return box to my UPS driver, my refund was processed three hours later. Sweet!

My Ooma service has been in operation for a few weeks now. I am SO HAPPY with this gadget. This is why:1. The only expense I have each month is the $3 in taxes I must pay to use the 911 emergency services. That is not a problem for me!2. The call is of outstanding quality.3. You receive free voicemail, caller ID, and call waiting.4. The gadget itself has a sleek appearance.5. You can select from a list of local phone numbers that are available (I think you can even use your current number instead, if you prefer).6. Arrived in safe packaging with clear directions.7. The top of the device is illuminated, and an electric blue light shines to indicate whether your service is active. When you have voicemail, the tiny "play" button becomes orange so you can quickly determine whether you have any new messages.I've tried a number of other VoIP services, such as Vonage (which is good but only costs $10–$25 per month, whereas Ooma is ONLY $3), and a couple other apps on my iPad mini that allow me to place and receive calls while I'm online (Talkatone, Google Voice, Voxofon, and WeTalk). Ooma is the most practical option for me because it is compatible with any standard corded or cordless home phone. My Ooma makes me so happy!

When you connect the phone's power cord and insert it into an outlet, the phone magically comes to life. Sincerely, I endorse this item. When plugged in, the phone is soooo much better. Even though it was pretty to look at as a paper weight, I feel like I'm getting SO much more use out of it now that it's connected in and operational. Has to be!

I just about a week ago bought this to get rid of my Verizon landline phone, which cost $60 a month! It's convenient that you can start a free number port from your old phone provider to Ooma if you sign up for their Premier service for a full year. Premier is less expensive than what Verizon was billing me for caller-ID and has some great bells and whistles. For my former phone number, the number porting procedure was finished in about 5 days. The Ooma website states that it can take up to three or four weeks to migrate an existing phone number. The old carrier has a significant impact on the porting time. The gadget itself has simple voicemail review buttons on the base unit, which makes it look like an answering machine. The smartphone has a beautiful matte black rubberized appearance. appears quite fashionable with the blue illuminating logo.Unlike a conventional landline, the Ooma lets you personalize how calls are placed and how voicemail is handled. On the my.oom.com website, the majority of these settings can be changed. Visit the device web page for the Ooma Telo Air to change some of the more hardware-specific settings, right down to how bright you want the Ooma logo to glow. You can go there by connecting an ethernet cable to a computer and the Ooma's HOME port, then entering the address 172.27.35.1 in your browser to get there. The Ooma Telo will power the old internal phone cables in the house, allowing you to utilize your old phones with the Ooma, if you physically cut your old landline phone connection from the outside at the Demarc, or junction box. With all these cool features, my monthly savings over my previous Verizon landline is almost $50. The best thing of all is that.
If you have a VoIP-compatible phone, you can use it with your VoIP service. If you don't have a VoIP-compatible phone, you can use a VoIP adapter with your regular phone.
Yes, you can use VoIP without a phone. You can use VoIP with a computer, a VoIP adapter, or a VoIP phone. If you have a broadband Internet connection, you can use VoIP.
Yes, VoIP can replace a landline. In addition to having all of the features of a landline, such as caller ID, call waiting, and voicemail, VoIP also has some advantages over landlines. For example, VoIP is typically less expensive than a landline, and it can be used anywhere there is an Internet connection.
Yes, you can use a regular landline phone for VoIP. However, you will need to have a VoIP adapter in order to do so. The VoIP adapter will convert the analog signal from your phone into a digital signal that can be transmitted over the internet.
If you have a VoIP phone, you may need a special router to use it. Many VoIP phones come with a router, or you can buy one separately. A VoIP router lets you make and receive VoIP calls using your VoIP phone.
No, you do not need a special switch for VoIP. Any Ethernet switch will work fine.
