It's true what they say, "Right tools do the work"! Since I handle all of my own repairs on my older automobile, I have to deal with a lot of clamps. I used to do it with pliers, cutting things off, etc., and then I made the decision to use the "proper" pliers for the task, not just any pliers, and, oh man, I knew it would be lot easier but I did not anticipate it to be so simple. What used to take me 5–10 minutes only takes a few seconds now, allowing me to focus on actual repairs rather than waste time toying with clamps (I won't tell you how many bruises I've gotten in the process). I am aware that many people ask, "Why do you need those when you can do x, y, and z?" You can, of course, if you just need to open one clamp, but if you frequently do so, that gadget is for you. Looks well-built and does the jobs I gave it really well. I'm looking forward to using them for a very long time, and of course, I'll tell my friends about them!

These are some of the better locking pliers available today that are less expensive and of higher quality than names like Grip-On or Knipex. Overall, they are very, very similar to the original Vise-Grip brand, in my opinion. They fall in between the Peterson Vise-Grips made in the United States and the ones they currently purchase from China, I would estimate. The locking release mechanism, heft, and feel are all similar. I base my ranking on the jaws' degree of hardness. They appear to be marginally superior to the China Vise-Grips, but not nearly as good as the Nebraska-made ones. These offered a fair value because they were a little less expensive than the import Vise-Grip brand.

In our new warehouse, where I'm setting up shop, I obviously needed to outfit it with tools. I chose this model because it matches the one I own at home and was acquired about 20 years ago.I am aware that many individuals detest products made in China. In the 1960s and early 1970s, everything created in Japan was despised by everyone.I placed my 20-year-old pair and this new pair side by side, and other than a few small wear spots, they are nearly identical in terms of appearance, weight, and feel. Following reasonable testing, the gripping force appears to be unchanged.I'm aware that there is prejudice towards products made in China, so I won't get into it all, other than to state that we Americans constantly expect to get more for less money. Which is top priority for you? I believe you truly get both in this instance.

I adore using and owning my tools since I am a tool guy. Since I know they will last, I also like to have and use ones like that. I own a couple off-brand pairs of locking pliers with a vice grip, but none of them come close to the Vice Grips name brand. This is a sizable, attractive set that functions admirably to keep larger parts together.This pair is quite huge. About 3-1/2" wide marks the Top/Bottom of the C-clamp section. When closed, the C-clamp measures 5-1/4" from top to bottom. When the mouth is opened, it can clamp down on objects up to 4" across. When I need to have a nice, solid grip on 1x2 pieces of steel or other materials, I utilize this pair. The swivel mechanism on the gripping tips works well to increase grip when in use by lining up the angle of whatever you are holding.I was concerned that Irwin might mess with the Vise Grip name when they acquired it, but that hasn't happened; these are just as durable and dependable as my Vise-Grips from the earlier Vise-Grip brand. The addition of the Irwin logo is about the only alteration.When I weld pretty close to where they are clamping, these may become so hot that they really start to turn a little blue. When you hold them, it is instantly clear that they are made of a very thick metal that is quite strong and secure. These are by far the greatest of my other items, including Craftsman.These are sturdy, dependable, and do last a lifetime, earning 5 stars. My oldest set has been in use for over 30 years and is still as trustworthy as the newest.

As several reviewers have noted, the concave jaw plate on this Irwin tool can cause problems. My initial Amazon purchase also succeeded. It was so severe that using the full force of the Vise-Grip was the only way to get the plates to completely close. Very bad. Before the center unites, the jaw plate's exterior digs into the target. When handling delicate materials like aluminum gutters or trim, they leave scars. Not to mention that you were dealing with a loaded spring. I sent it back to Amazon so they could replace it. I made the decision to do some research as I waited for the replacement. I was able to test out a total of 5 new tools. Each of them had concave jaw plates. Amounts of concavity ranged from around 1/32" to 1/8". Strangely, the amount of concavity did not impact the amount of pressure needed to fully seal the jaw plates. The plate metals appear to be of varying hardness, strength, or form. I believe the concave plates were intentionally created to offset the Vise-Grip pliers' pressure point in the middle. The substitute item from Amazon performed flawlessly. With just a little pressure, the plates entirely close. useful tool I like the usable version and advise using it.

Reviews that claimed these weren't as durable as Milwaukee or Irwin worried me. The thickness of the C clamp part is 3/16 "and seems sufficiently strong. I have some old 1/4 Irwin ones "so they are lighter duty, yes. But the operation couldn't have gone more smoothly because I was utilising them to swiftly fasten a Kreg jig. Instantaneous clamping and unclamping was significantly faster than with the standard C clamps (with threaded rod) I had been using. I just clamp wood, so I'll probably never need the heaviest-duty clamps. And they were a great deal at around $8 each (as opposed to name brand ones, which cost $23). If anything ever flexes or breaks, I'll update.

At a hardware store's closing sale thirty years ago, I purchased one of these. Larger vice-grips always appeared clunky to me and frequently left wounds on the objects they held, so I had my reservations. I quickly discovered that they were simple to use and far more effective than regular household pliers.This set is an upgrade. The original pair may have hidden itself in my son's van, according to me. That is how good tools disappear. Most handymen are unaware of a number of tools that are highly beneficial. One of the others is a pair of large Channel-locks, which are excellent for plumbing but are not the standard 10-12" or 12-20" size. But these are my best kept secret in my toolbox, and they come in handy for all the little fix-it jobs that keep showing up. Purchase two of these—one for you and the other for your son. You don't want him to begin a life of petty theft.

I have a broad variety of pliers in my collection, but the Vise-Grip series is frequently the most helpful, therefore I'm pleased to suggest them all wholeheartedly. They keep up well; my 1980s ones still seem brand new.For goodness sake, acquire at least one pair of Vise-Grip pliers and give it a try if you've never used one before. You'll need it constantly.The 4" long-nose is a wonderful choice for confined locations. I can always find the appropriate size tool when combined with the little long-nose Vise-Grips.Additionally, the wire cutting edge that is situated immediately next to the fulcrum is constantly useful.
