Best USB Reading Lamps in 2020

USB Reading Lamp with 14 LEDs Dimmable Touch Switch and Flexible Gooseneck (14 LED, Black) Review:

This is the third USB reading lamp that I have tried. I use my laptop while sitting with the wife and watching television. She does not like to have a light on behind us, which makes the keyboard hard to see.

The first lamp had an on/off switch and two lighting levels, but with just two LEDs it did not light the keyboard all that well. So I got a different one with eight LEDs. That one had a longer light bar, and did light the keyboard well enough, but there was no on/off switch which meant that I had to plug and unplug it when I didn't need the light for awhile.

This one is the best of both worlds. It has a touch sensitive switch that cycles through three lighting levels and then to off. The 14 LEDs are arranged along a bar so it projects well across the width of the keyboard. The "goose-neck" between the USB plug and the lamp head is sturdy and shows no signs that it will let the lamp sag.

BenQ ScreenBar Plus e-Reading Lamp Review:

I had looked for a few weeks for a lamp that was well designed. They say to surround yourself with things that are beautiful and things that are useful. As a technology consultant and systems developer, I use a MacBook Pro and currently have a LG 32UD99-W 32" 4K monitor. Beautiful AND useful. This lamp is just beautiful and simple and a perfect compliment to my work space. I LOVE that it does not take up any desk space, takes power directly from my monitor (make sure your USB port delivers steady 5V power) and lights up the workspace between me and the monitor perfectly.

My 15" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar gets power via USB-C from the monitor, and provides data to the USB hub on the back of my monitor via the same USB-C cable so when I disconnect my Laptop from the monitor, the lamp automatically goes off. Beautiful, Useful, AND Smart :)

I am so thrilled with the function and design of this lamp that I have had many of my client purchase it and they have loved it too.

BENQ, Thank you!!!

PS: If you are having problems with the switches not working, it's most likely that your USB ports are not providing adequate power to the lamp.

Led Clip Reading Light, Raniaco Daylight 12 LEDs USB Rechargeable Reading Lamp-3 Brightness,Touch Switch Bedside Book Light with Good Eye Protection Brightness Review:

I was looking for a bedside/reading light for 3 of my 4 kids for Christmas. I've been through multiple "regular" booklights, all of which have burnt out and fallen apart in short order, as well as a dimmable, clamping desk lamp that cost $30 and broke apart after a couple of months of regular use. So, my requirements for a new light were:

1) rechargeable. With multiple kids who tend to leave the light on after falling asleep, I can't be buying batteries x 3 or 4 on the regular;
2) dimmable. Brighter for reading, dimmer for ambient light;
3) sturdy and can stand up on its own (and, ideally, have a clamp option); and
4) AFFORDABLE, i.e., less than $15, seeing as I have multiple lights to buy.

I'm so glad I found this light! The first thing I said when I pulled it out of the box was, "Wow, this is really nice!" It feels like it's a quality product. The design is sleek and simple, too. And it comes with a USB cable -- added value.

The dimming button is a bit sensitive, but the 3 lighting strengths are perfect. Then, the ultimate test: Does it *really* work with a USB cable *with* the brick that plugs into the wall? And yay, it worked!

I definitely recommend this light!

Rechargeable Mini Clip-on Book Light, Raniaco 9 LED USB Reading Lamp,3 Color Temp(3000K~6000K) with Step-Less Dimming and Touch Switch,360 Flexible Soft Lamp Easy for Eyes-Free Returnless Replacement Review:

I had 2 book-lights I'd been (trying) to use before purchasing this one. One was junk, the other was great until it crapped out on me shortly after purchasing. I bought this one and so far LOVE it!
It's bigger than what I was initially looking for, but still lightweight enough to clip where I prefer it next to my bed no problem. Also, it does stand on it's own like a table lamp if that's useful to you. The "button" is pretty sensitive which is slightly irritating at times, but the 3-brightness levels are great. I've been using the lowest setting at bedtime and it's plenty bright without being overwhelming or causing weird glares on my book pages. The neck bends and stays where you need it and the lamp itself lights up both pages wonderfully so no 'sweeping' it back and forth (which was an issue for me with previous lights).
As long as this lasts, which I'm hoping it will with the charger cable it came with, this is definitely worth the purchase and 5 stars.

Reading Light, USB LED, USB Keyboard Light, Sonkoo Brightness Mini Portable USB Lamp Reading Lamp Laptop Light with Touch Switch Flexible Neck Review:

I love this little light! As someone who works a night shift, this light has been a great addition to my home office. I work from home doing customer service and typically enjoy working in a dark environment. However, I do need a little light to view my notepad and keyboard and until I found this, I had no easy way to illuminate them. This light is BRIGHT and has a really convenient bendable body that can be shaped however you like. The body itself has a really solid build that firmly holds whatever angle or shape you place it in. And turning it on/off is as easy as tapping the end of the light bar.

I attached a USB extension cable to it to extend its reach as it would normally just plug directly into a USB port of a computer or charging plug. With the extender I’m able to place it on the far end of the desk away from my computer tower. Definitely an awesome little light for a home office.

8 PCS EBYPHAN Mini USB LED Light Lamp, USB Light for Laptop Computer Keyboard, Flexible Gooseneck Reading Light, USB Powered LED Light, Portable USB Laptop Light Review:

USB light sticks may all look the same, but they are not.

First we bought one from an electronics big box store for over $4. It was too bluish of a light for what we wanted; it was almost like a fluorescent light. And it was stiff, and the "shade" cover fell out and we had to put it back in.. So then we ordered two from a popular e-buying site. They had too yellowish of a light, but the chip lights inside were larger than the big box store one. Both kinds had soldered wires inside that you could see when you took the covers out.

Then we ordered the set of 8 from Amazon. They all work. They are more flexible than the others we tried. The color ones we received are all a nice bright white -- but not too bluish. The black one in the set has a different color light tint, I would call the color a medium white compared to the others in the set, but not yellow. I took the "shade" cover off, and no wires are visible inside them, just the light chips, nice and neat.

We wanted to light up a small statue in a wood and glass lantern. We affixed one of the bright lights into the top with a screw-in bracket. Then we used a USB extension cord to plug it into a USB wall outlet adapter. What an easy way to light a display with low voltage and not a lot of heat. Perfect light color and brightness, too.

USB Reading Lamp with 2 LED Lights and Flexible Gooseneck - 2 Brightness Settings and On/Off Switch for Notebook Laptop, Desktop, PC and MAC Computer (Black) Review:

My daughter is 7 and loves reading. We spend a lot of time in the car and, with it being Michigan and winter, it gets dark early. She had a little AA Mag Light for reading but she was reading so much I felt bad for her having to hold the flashlight in one hand and the keep the pages open with the other. I decided to see what Amazon had for automotive reading lights. I was not impressed with the selection so I made my own with the parts shown in the attached picture and it works great!

The light has two settings but the lowest works fine. It doesn't distract me while I'm driving because the light is mounted on the back of the rear seat facing backward. It is also a low power light so it only lights up a spot on her book and not the rest of the car.

This is what I did:

- I strapped the organizer around the back of the passenger seat. I've used these and loved them for years so that was nothing new.

- I then plugged in the 12V-to-USB adapter into my power outlet. My power outlet turns off when the key is turned off so I don't have to worry about leaving the light on and draining my battery.

- I plugged in the USB extension cord and routed it under the seat and up to the top of the organizer.

- I then plugged in the light. The top strap from the organizer holds it in place and the gooseneck light allows it to bend where she needs it.

RunningSnail USB Reading Lamp with 5 LEDs, Metallic USB LED Light with Swith Touch for Laptop, Desktop, Power Bank Review:

This light is a fascinating marriage of low tech and high tech. A 19th century farm boy could easily have designed it... if he had access to a time machine to bring back plastic, LED's, and USB-charged lithium batteries.

The light is turned on by pulling up the handle and turned off by pushing it all the way down. It works more like a pump than a high tech lamp! Lowering the handle dims the light and raising it brightens it, however, the intensity of the LED's does not change. Raising and lowering the handle simply raises and lowers the LED's so that at dim light, only the very bottom of the light is lit, but at brightest intensity, the entire light is lit. It's a clever and low tech design.

The USB charging port is at the top of the handle. When it's charging, a light in the port glows red. When it's fully charged, it changes from red to blue.

The light itself is pleasant. This isn't a flashlight. It's a soft glow that's a lot more pleasant than a lot of LED lights.

Hanerdun Bright LED USB Lamp Light Reading Lamp for Laptop Flexible Neck Black Review:

Pros- It lights up my keyboard really well!
Cons- It freaks my Jack Russell Terrier out which caused him to attack the light, wrecking my laptop, the light and knocking it off my lap which then broke the screen on my laptop.

So if you want to light up your keyboard, get this light, it works really well! If you have a hyper active dog with discipline problems you may need to find a different solution.

Would I recommend this to a friend? absolutely.

Would I recommend it to a friend with a Jack Russell Terrier that doesn't behave? No I would not.

BTW I am thinking of making a product line specifically for people who have Jack Russell Terriers that don't behave because their wife spoils the dog.
