I've been playing the guitar for about 8 years, and I usually try to get extremely excellent, high-end instruments since, generally speaking, with them, "you get what you pay for." Since I didn't want to spend a lot of money on an item that the kids might treat roughly, I decided to give this, my first ukulele, a go since my kids enjoy playing around with instruments as well. Amazing is all I can say.Despite not being made of solid wood, it has a very high-end appearance and appears to be entirely made of mahogany. exquisitely crafted.SOUND: The woods have a really lovely, clear resonance that blends in very well with the volume of an acoustic guitar. Although it is little, it produces beautiful warm highs with a Ukulele-like crispness.I'm not a pro at ukulele, but the strings are holding up extremely well after a week of playing and stay in tune quite well. I've kept the ones that are on and they match the extra ones that they sent out, which is really cool.BODY: AMAZING for the price! It is well constructed, and I have no doubt that it will withstand some abuse for some time. The silky surface on the neck makes it lovely to move back and forth while you play. TUNERS: These, together with the included strings, have done an excellent job of keeping the instrument in tune for days at a time with only small tweaks needed every other day.PLAYABILITY: This ukulele feels very smooth around the fretboard right out of the box. The frets are well-polished and won't grab your fingertips, and the back of the neck makes changing positions on the instrument simple.BAG: Durable, contains an extra pocket with zippers for any accessories you might want to bring (tuners, strings, pictures, etc.), and has two shoulder straps so you can use it like a backpack. Nice!EXTRAS: The "bundles" are typically a mix of a few inexpensive goods with the main item in order to draw attention. This is not the case, the tuner (of the same brand as the guitar) works fantastically and has the added benefit of working with any stringed or vibrating instrument. Although I haven't used the additional set of strings, assuming they are the same as the ones that were pre-installed, I should be fine. Although it's a cute little package, I did run into a couple of tiny issues with it. There is a 1 inch square section on the front that was not fully completed, as seen in the photo. Only specific angles of light falling on the front of the ukulele make it visible. Additionally, I did not get the additional strings that were pictured in the photo. When compared to my Snark tuner, the tuner is pretty accurate, however it needed a new battery when I got it. The gig bag has minimal padding but provides acceptable security. This ukulele has a bright, booming tone that is almost as bright as my Kala soprano. Out of the box, no setup was required. Good action and smooth fret edges are present. This ukulele stays in tune for days at a time after a few tunings. Overall, the ukulele is of very high quality for the price.

The beginning kit and small ukulele are a great deal for the money! The actual instrument is of good quality and has a pleasant, lively tone. I was thrilled to be able to play it right out of the box after giving it a brief tune. It was simple to achieve a fantastic tone on the first try because the strings are well-placed and have little movement. The instrument is keeping its pitch wonderfully after approximately 3 days, and I'm enjoying playing it a lot!A lovely soft-sided gig back with an accessory pocket and backpack-style straps is included in the beginning box. I've reviewed the Makala Shark Bridge Soprano Ukulele in the past. Unfortunately, it came in a very unsatisfactory way with that specific ukulele. We were compelled to return it due to poor workmanship and quality control difficulties, and we ended up paying an extra $10 for the Kala Mahogany Soprano Ukulele. Let me just remark that these two ukuleles are literally poles apart from one another.I'll mention that I've been a guitarist for more than 25 years for those of you who DIDN'T read my earlier review. I'm quite skilled at building, setting up, and playing both acoustic and electric stringed instruments. I play rock and metal in particular, although I have experience in almost all musical genres. My wife and I were looking for a cheap beginner's ukulele for a 5-year-old kid who would use it for her first musical experience. We had the ukuleles sent to us after placing the order so that I could inspect them and make sure they were built and set up correctly before giving them to her. Since I have taught MANY lessons and played a wide variety of instruments over my career, I am aware that the most typical reason a student leaves up on a stringed instrument is if it is improperly set up (i.e., physically challenging to play). NO stringed instrument should call such Herculean physical effort.The Kala Ukulele was shipped out in excellent condition, both by Amazon and the manufacturer. I discovered right away that the ukulele was actually constructed of mahogany after pulling it out of the second innermost box that it came in [deliberate mislabeling of construction wood is an undesirable element of cheap guitars and stringed instruments]. This is not just real mahogany; it is also a superb specimen of mahogany. The wood has a strong black grain that runs throughout it and is a deep shade of brown. This fine example of mahogany is easily identified by the pores in the wood, which are a telltale sign of genuine mahogany.The fretwork is OUTSTANDING. I've seen $400–$500 guitars with poorer fretwork than this. The brass frets are all neatly polished and properly installed. For anyone who is familiar with guitars and other stringed instruments, fret ends—the points where your hand makes contact with the neck as it moves up and down—can be a very problematic area to touch. However, these frets have been so meticulously maintained that there is absolutely no sensation.The nut is another point of emphasis. One of THE most crucial components of any stringed instrument, in my opinion, is the nut. On order to avoid binding, which can affect tuning and intonation, a nut's slots must be cut appropriately. This maximizes the instrument's resonance and projection by allowing the strings to move into the tuning machinery in a downward trajectory. Once more, this tool is excellent in terms of the nut. The nut is made of plastic that resembles "bone," and it has been cut precisely and with a level of attention to detail I could not have anticipated at this price point.With this ukulele, tuning CAN be a little arduous.The tuners are VERY basic, but one shouldn't expect anything more from them given their $53 price tag (most tuning machine sets cost more than this ukulele did). When tuning, kindly be aware that the tuning machines may fumble a little. Getting impatient is really simple, but if you take your time, it will pitch. As with any stringed instrument, the ukulele must be stretched after tuning in order to attain the best tuning stability. This process should be repeated at least twice more.As soon as I tuned the ukulele and started strumming some chords, I understood what a treasure this really is. The ukulele is a powerful, resonant instrument that embodies all of the aforementioned elements. Single notes have a rich harmonic richness and sing loudly. Good projection and ringing of the chords. Every note on the fingerboard has been played, and none of them has any intonation problems or dead notes.To put this in perspective, I recently purchased a guitar for myself. I spent $2,500 on it. It is the pinnacle of contemporary guitar design and, in my opinion, the best stringed instrument I've ever played. The $53 nevertheless Right next to that guitar, in my house, is a place for a Kala Uke. I'm not making a comparison between the two; I'm just saying that I WILL buy a copy for myself when our granddaughter uses this one. On this product, the "dollars per grin" ratio is absurd. If you're in the market for a ukulele, PLEASE do yourself a favor and buy one. I cannot express how much I love this instrument. You won't be dissatisfied, and you won't regret it for even a second.

This is not a "musical instrument," in general. It is a toy.The front is plastic with a sticker, print, or other design that simulates wood. They didn't even bother on the sides or the rear; they just used black plastic. The strings are constructed of the usual nylon, however they are cumbersome and hefty. After being set up for a time, it only keeps tuning for about an hour and has a tone that is deeper than a soprano ukulele should have.You might be wondering why this review only has four stars. Answer: Since I expected all of those drawbacks when I purchased it. I merely wanted to make sure that people were aware of this before to buying.This is very good for a low-cost ukulele. Although the sound quality is horrible, it's not too bad given the circumstances. This is a decent product to get for a reasonable price. It's virtually a deal, in my opinion. I wasn't sure if I would be any good at playing the ukulele. Two days in, I wasn't sure if I would give up. I bought an inexpensive one simply to see because I knew this. For the brief period I used it, this ukulele performed admirably. Although I've since outgrown it and purchased a lovely hardwood one in its place, this one was a crucial step in the right direction. It was fairly impressive.It has a lovely cloth carrying case with a strap as one of its accessories. I choose not to utilize the decorative stickers because they are tacky, square, and terrible. Instead, I simply scratched song lyrics into the surface. I spent about a day playing with the small book of chords before quickly moving on to searching for the chords to songs I wanted to learn. In my humble opinion, the "strap" used to hold the ukulele upright is utterly useless. Like. So terrible. Sincerely, don't even try. I took three mines. Given that I could get a free tuner app and that the tuner requires some sort of watch battery and doesn't come with batteries, I simply gave that up as well.Poor quality, in summary. I won't dispute that. Nevertheless, for the cost? You're getting a nice thing.

I bought it so I could have a second ukulele to use when instructing others. Compared to a conventional soprano, it sounds more like a super-soprano (aka really small). It will take some time for it to stay in tune, just like with all ukuleles; all the strings need to be stretched before you can count on them to do so, just like with a $200 ukulele. This is a terrific way to travel with, test out, or keep as a spare for your friends to utilize for $20.I bought a second. These are excellent teaching aids or starter materials. Using this ukulele, I have introduced ukulele to a few individuals. It will maintain tuning once the strings have stretched. Even if you end up not liking the ukulele, the $20 is still worth it because it is less expensive than seeing a movie.
