Purchasing a kit made by the same manufacturer as the item is always a good option. I made the error of visiting our neighborhood hardware store and purchasing a universal kit (simply the tank-to-bowl bolt set), but I was unable to halt the leak.I purchased this American Standard kit, and the first thing I noticed was that the washers are flexible rubber while the universal kit has hard rubber washers for some strange reason. Indeed, this stopped the leak, and I'm now a content flusher! Oh, and another minor plus: These bolts were shorter, which was also what was required. Because the bolts in the universal kit were so absurdly lengthy, the job took even longer.

The tank must be screwed on very tightly to the base for the Champion Series. In order to prevent the tank from rocking, this lowers it onto the raised rib in the front and the raised nipple in the back on the base. Additionally, it compresses the rubber stem washers that are located under the bolts and the huge gasket that is used to seal the water passages between the tank and bowl. Once the bolts are tight, they will compress to around half their original thickness, so there is no point in attempting to reuse them.Make sure the tank is positioned as evenly and level as possible before tightening the bolts, and check that the bolts, which are still loose, are lined up straight and not at an angle, which would suggest that the tank isn't sitting in the ideal position.How much tension do you apply? Too much will cause you to break the base, the tank, or both. Use a tiny ratchet and extension socket. Any other action will likely result in the tank or foundation being cracked or chipped. Use the socket and extension but not the ratchet as you finger tighten the nugs. Then, while switching back and forth between the bolts, tighten each one a little at a time to maintain an even pressure. To check if the tank has yet to hit the nubs at the back when it is almost there, move the tank forward slowly and put a piece of paper over the nub. Continue until the paper can no longer pass through, at which point STOP! Never touch that bolt again unless you intend to take it out and replace it with a brand-new kit.This will take more torque than you might think and more than what the majority of toilets need.

When remodeling our powder room, I am very glad I decided to use this toilet.Since our contractor had never installed one of these before, I was initially really anxious to have it put. To save yourself some time, make sure that whoever installs this toilet strictly adheres to the installation instructions. After the initial installations, we had to replace a few items because the contractor did not follow the instructions in the manual.The instruction manual is clear and available in English, Spanish, and French. There are many tutorials online in addition to the handbook.- Please be informed that a tank system will be needed to hold the toilet's frame, which will necessitate retrofitting the studs beneath the drywall. (We also bought the Toto in-wall system.)- You'll also need to fix the plumbing, which necessitates replacing your floor.Please don't forget to measure the height of the toilet seat, which is universally recommended for these toilets. 19 is ours "on the ground. At the end of every single flush, there is that pleasant glug, glug, glug sound. You see, Toto is knowledgeable about fluid dynamics and has incorporated these ideas into their design. It works fine and has been installed for a week. EVEN THOUGH IT IS QUITE LOUD, LOUDER THAN MY SUMP PUMP, I KNOW IT IS WORKING. In case of a power outage, I placed an audible GFCI and also purchased a high water alarm. Both are not particularly loud, but I can still hear it if I'm in the basement. To prevent the lights in the bathroom from turning on if the power goes off (due to a tripped breaker, etc.), I installed the GFCI as the first outlet with the line in. Due to the thick gasket, the water tank does not fit well on the bowl; therefore, press down to conduct a dry test first. Purchase a thinner gasket or, as I did, shim it using plastic shims. With shims, the gasket is rock solid, but when it is flushed, it rocks. Since the pump under the tank causes it to sit about 4 inches from the wall, I also added a toilet water tank bracing on the back. It would break if someone were to lean back against it. If I experience any problems with it, I'll update. To receive the additional year of warranty, register the product.
