I apologize for the lengthy review; when I find something I like and want to promote, I tend to ramble a bit.Due to the executive function problems associated with ADHD, I've always had trouble keeping track of time. The prop-up component is cute, and the units seem to function effectively. A magnet on the back secures them on our fridge. comes with a shrink-wrapped AAA battery that you may use right away by removing it and re-inserting it. I haven't had the devices long enough to report on battery life or how they operate when the battery is getting low (we have a different timer that gets very glitchy on a low battery though lol)Units were much louder than what we needed, so I had the brilliant idea to cover their speaker grilles with scotch tape. One piece of tape was perfect for bringing the level down to just what we needed. I've bought a few of these off of E-bay in the past, but the 6 lot here on Amazon for $12.99 was the best bargain I could find. The first ones I bought are still functional after two years of everyday use. Six screws in the back and two holding the circuit board make them simple to disassemble if you inadvertently get them wet, in contrast to prior devices that snapped together and were challenging to separate without ruining them. Although there is a switch to turn them off, I always leave them on with a single excellent battery (such as a Duracell) and the one I bought two years ago still has the original cells.

THIS TIMER IS AWESOME! Our 5-year-old takes over an hour to finish any meal. It hasn't gotten any better since he started kindergarten, where they only have 30 minutes, and he still brings home half of his lunch. Only the parents can operate the timer.2. He must begin by eating the cuisine he "thinks" he won't enjoy, moving on to his favorite dish last.3- He will therefore forfeit his favorite foods if time runs out and he hasn't been eating within an acceptable time frame.4- And certainly, dessert is not served unless dinner has been thoroughly attempted (75 percent for us is reasonable, and I serve rather tiny amounts).5. Depending on the food served, we allow him more or less than 25 minutes for the typical dinner.He initially envisioned it as beating the timer, and that strategy was successful. It has been a few weeks, but it came to the surface once when my sensitive child started crying and acting like he was being punished. I emphasized to him that the timer's purpose was to simply show him that time was passing while he was at the table, not to punish him or make him feel terrible. Knowing he wasn't in danger and that the purpose was simply to assist him gauge how long it was taking him to complete the task calmed him down.He's eaten salmon since I'm making him eat the "least favorites" first, and he discovered he enjoys it!
