Review is lengthy; beware. First off, this tandem is NOT a $3000 Co-Motion, Santana, or similar bike, so I didn't go into this expecting it to compare favorably to bikes of that caliber. It also doesn't. In a different league. Therefore, my rating of 4 stars does not correspond to the "scale" that would be used to rate that type of computer. This is more driven by its importance to us and the simple reality that riding it is enjoyable.The short of it is that, in my opinion, this is a perfectly enjoyable and low-risk method to begin tandem riding. My children and I both adore it. I purchased it since it was the most affordable option I could find for trying tandem riding with my children. I didn't want to spend thousands on a tandem only to discover that we detested it. I spent some time looking in my region of Seattle for a good used tandem that was reasonable and the correct size, but I was unable. I reasoned that I couldn't go wrong for $300.As captain, I am about 170 lbs. and 5' 8". My boys, who are 9 and 10 years old, are. 52 inches tall is the shortest. With the seat all the way down (with the reflector removed to lower the saddle even further), he "just" fits the stoker, and his leg only slightly bends at the bottom of the pedal stroke. The fit for children is further impacted by the crank arms being too long for them. They may be 172.5mm, but I haven't measured. But it's perfect for what we're doing. The bars would probably be too low for someone my height serving as captain if you're a taller person, since even my 10-year-old said they felt low. I've got them as high as they can go under my saddle, but a taller captain would obviously allow them to go higher. I haven't really rode it as a stoker, but the way the stoker bars are set up, they seem low (and wide). With those bars, it appears to be slightly crowded and sagging into the captain's back just from sitting on it.It was expertly wrapped and came in a single, sizable box. Assembly was quick and simple. Only the front wheel, both sets of bars and stems, the seat posts and saddles, and the pedals needed to be attached. For a bike of this caliber, the component quality appears adequate. Though they are heavy and expensive, everything seems reliable. When the pedals are attached, the bike weights 50 lbs 7 oz. not light. I checked every bolt, screw, and other component throughout assembly, and nothing seemed out of place, with the exception of two things; see below. The saddles are absolute garbage, so I quickly replaced both after our first few rides. Of course, everyone has their own preferences when it comes to saddles, but these are horrible. The grips will shortly be replaced because they are so severe. The tires are hefty and noisy, but after around 200 miles, they appear to be durable enough. Will possibly replace them earlier than when they wear out. I removed the tires and looked for any metal shavings in accordance with the reviews I've read, but I couldn't. The front derailer was set up properly right out of the box; the rear only required minor attention. It'settled' after around 50 miles of riding and shifting. Since then, I've only needed to make quite minimal adjustments to keep everything shifting smoothly, so I can only imagine that the lengthy, inexpensive wires stretched more than would normally happen. While the rear has a 7 speed indexed twist shifter, the front is not. Despite being inexpensive, the brakes stop the bike remarkably well. Since the current pads are so cheap and nearly worn out, I believe that replacing them with better ones will only improve the situation. The hardest part so far has been getting the brakes centered (no rubbing) and keeping them there, but lately they've managed to settle in. Surprisingly, chains and bearings were nicely lubricated.The only problems I encountered during assembly, which may or may not have been coincidences, are the reasons I took a star off.After traveling a few more miles, the same thing occurred. Adapt, repeat, same outcome. Why the Hell not?

There are many issues with the shipping. The front wheel hub of the first one I ordered left numerous gouges in the frame. Because it was so deep, riding on it wasn't even safe. The box was also battered and clearly used before, but it wasn't the box's fault that it was damaged. I had it mailed to me again after returning it (and fitting the large package in my Pontiac Vibe). The second one (with a new box) likewise had the same issue, although there were only minor paint scratches and no gouges. The flaws are caused by a little plastic component that is meant to protect the hub during shipping but frequently comes off. Due to the small damage and my desire to avoid purchasing a third one, I accepted the seller's offer of a discount to keep the item as-is.Compared to what I anticipated after reading these evaluations, the bike was in much better condition. Some evaluations are quite old, but I believe they have improved upon them based on the criticism. I took advantage of the free bike assembly offered by Amazon through a nearby bike shop. I was deeply moved. The Tektro R539 Dual Pivot Rear Brake Caliper - 47-57mm, Hex Nut, Silver and Tektro R539 Dual Pivot Front Brake Caliper - 47-57mm, Hex Nut, Silver brakes I bought were installed by the mechanic at no additional charge. He remarked that changing the brakes was a wise decision (as I read here before). Perfectly adjusting each derailleur, he was able to greatly quiet the chain pulley. I had purchased a 56t chainring (ghost gear, as described in these reviews) to replace the pulley, but I don't think I'll need it just yet because the bike is already fairly quiet. Thank you for the free assembly and superb mechanic, once more. It's excellent because he spent two hours correcting everything, truing the wheels, etc.It's a good enhancement that the back wheel now has a quick release (prior older reports claimed it had a bolt). Presta valves are tubes. It has 700x32C tires. Use the factory tires till they are worn out. They appear to be rather inexpensive, so I'd get at least one spare in case one blows out.The captain's handlebars were positioned excessively forward (as I expected from the reviews). I purchased an XLC Adjustable Stem 25.4 80mm 25.4 Sl, which works flawlessly. Since I'm just 5'6", I had it nearly vertical, but the adjustable stem would be ideal for most people. To remove the stem without damaging the wires and handlebar tape, I had to cut the one that came with it.Then I attached a rear rack for panniers. The Planet Bike Eco Rack Oversized 6061 T6 Aluminum Bike Rack with Pre-installed Hardware (Silver) that I purchased includes the required P-clamps (there are no eyelets on the rear of this bike). To avoid tangling the brake line, it was necessary to slightly twist the rack bars when fastening them within the stays, but it still functions perfectly.We'll probably need new stoker handlebars in the future. The captain's seat is in the way, preventing the stoker bars from being moved higher because we are both short. So our upcoming purchase will probably be riser handlebars.Anyway, I would strongly recommend this tandem as a beginner. It will require a few additions to make it drivable, but it is still much less expensive and of acceptable quality than anything else on the market. I love riding this bike tandem with my wife; it's so much fun! We replaced the uncomfortable, little seats that come with it with lovely, roomy Bell Beach Cruiser chairs. The main crank was also a little bit dry of grease when we had the bike inspected and refurbished, so we packed it with marine grease for optimal longevity and water resistance. Don't expect a performance bike; it's more suitable for leisurely cruising. It's a touch heavy. Keep an eye on the rear brake cable since it might extend over time and lose some of its effectiveness. Shifter tuning can be challenging due to the length of the shift cable; occasionally, I can't reach all of the gears. No major deal; it's a lovely family heirloom for the price.

The bike frame's weight appears to be what caused the fenders to bend. Additionally, due to the bike's design, the front rider must pedal with his or her feet on the balls of their feet in order to turn the bike properly.

Kent Northwoods Dual Drive Tandem Bike Review:


If this bike cost twice as much, I would give it a perfect five-star rating. I have a very pricey mountain bike that I bought just for a birthday ride with my girlfriend through an island settlement. Because of the price, I assumed it wouldn't be a very good bike, but I figured we'd test it and if we loved tandems, I'd get a better one. This bike is incredible. It arrived well-packaged with cardboard wrapped around the frame and additional cardboard on the box's sides to prevent shipping damage. In less than 30 minutes, I had the bike put together and ready to ride. The front wheel wasn't attached to the bike, so I had to adjust the front brake. Other changes weren't required. The earth perfectly shifted. Even though it weighs 45 pounds, there are two bikes and two riders, so that's not too awful. It feels sturdy and rides well. The seats were the main drawback of the bike, which we used to travel about the island and eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner at various locations. We returned the bike to the rack after lunch, drove 45 minutes to a Walmart, and purchased 2 memory foam seat coverings there. For about $35, the issue was solved.

We've had almost a year of pure joy since we purchased this tandem monster bike 11 months ago. Like with our dog, we buy it little things since we adore it so much. And since she is now known as Agnesaurus rex (Tyranosaurus agnes didn't sit well with the stoker), it is no longer a "it." There were no surprises because when we bought the bike, we knew it was a beach cruiser with upgraded 21-speed gearing. We anticipated she wouldn't be a custom-made titanium creation from Colorado. Anyway, here is our Rexie experience:1. The delivery was early. I had never gotten a package so large and so heavy. A well-padded, partially built, shining behemoth in red, black, and chrome was within.2. Assembly was straightforward. I now consider myself proficient because I have built numerous motorcycles throughout the years for my expanding family. Prior to reading the ludicrous reviews about it, I didn't even read the directions. I'll save the sheet for amusement.3. I did visit a bicycle store! Even though I have the necessary equipment and am technically inclined, there are three things I'd rather have a professional handle for us: (a) fine-tuning the shifting system, (b) adjusting the brakes, and (c) truing the rims. Because I will be in charge of a VIP stoker's safety for the first time, I cannot compromise on these three factors. To find out just how VIP she is, read #5 below.4. We thoroughly researched tandem bikes before we rode. Theoretically, we learned how to mount and dismount, navigate various terrains and surfaces, and maintain *very important* communications with the captain, the stoker, and other trail and road users. Then, while wearing helmets, we put the idea into action. I made the following change to the online instructions: If I sit on my crossbar, feet firmly planted to the ground, and apply the brakes while the stoker does her preflight routine, such as plopping herself on her saddle and placing both feet on her pedals, I will achieve more stability and safety during mounting and dismounting.5. Improvements and more accessories: She is in charge of the stoker's rearview mirror. (b) The Ibera rack, saddlebag, and trunk system. (c) Front rack for Sunlite. (d) Low riders on Voyager. (e) Stoker seat post with shock absorption. (f) A broader Vitesse saddle for the stoker. (g) Ergonomic handles on the Sunlite swing-back handlebar for the stoker. (h) Sunlite stoker handlebar post with adjustment. I Schwalbe 1.5" road tires, which improved dependability and speed. A brass ding-dong bell for me, please! As a result, as you probably have guessed by now, we travel to various zip codes while camping on the improved and renovated Rexie. Not a single flat, breakdown, or incident of any kind.Yes, we're thrilled with our tandem bike, and we've already trusted our Garmin GPS and her hands, er, handlebars, with our life and safety. This bike comes highly recommended. Although it's not the best money can buy, we don't ride competitively or off-road.



KENT Dual Drive Tandem Comfort Bike Review:


I bought this on March 9, 2018. So far, I've just had time to put the bike together and make minor adjustments; I haven't yet had a chance to ride it. After she gets a few miles under her belt, I'll write a follow-up post. Be informed that I called Kent to inquire about the differences between this and another Kent tandem model before I made the purchase. Kent said that this model had just been released, which is one reason I chose to purchase it.Unexpectedly well, the box got here. You should be aware that Kent does not include an owner's manual with this bike, which is odd. They hand you a one-size-fits-all bike manual that is primarily composed of knowledge you gained in the third grade. Because I'm skilled with tools, it came together rather easily. The front wheel, handle bars, and seats must all be installed; the rear wheel is already mounted. Little to nothing. The color on the bike was gorgeous, however there were a few tiny surface dings. Additionally, the factory installed the tin "Kent" badge on the front fork incorrectly. As I said, it came together easily based only on my prior bike-building knowledge.I brought the bike to a local bike shop for a "look over" and tune-up because I have complete faith in them. If you have a nearby bike shop, you might want to consider doing the same thing in light of the amazing Amazon price—it would be money well spent. (However, don't bother taking this to one of those upscale stores where they'll love making fun of you.) The brakes and gears were adjusted by my bike shop. They looked at the rubber band that surrounds the inner rims and shields the inner tube from the spokes at my request. Indeed, they were badly misaligned and performing poorly on both wheels. Tire blowouts were mentioned by certain reviewers; this is the cause! In order to provide additional inner tube protection, they not only relocated the factory rubber bands but also added a second one for each rim. I don't anticipate experiencing a blowout.In relation to gears, I removed the derailleur from this bike, as I have done with many others. They are, in my opinion, far more trouble than they are worth. You'll need to adjust the derailleur frequently when you change through the back gears since the chain grinds on the metal. I currently have the chain placed on the middle front sprocket, but if I ever feel that the other sprockets would be preferable, I can just manually move the chain. Folks, let's be honest: This isn't the Tour de France. We are not professional bikers, you or I. Seven "speeds" would be sufficient even if I lived in a hilly area; but, Delaware is quite level. Who in heck wants a tandem bike with 21 speeds instantly available?The pedals were also reset. To accomplish this, you'll need to "break" (open) the chain. For a leisure bike, having the front and back pedals parallel to one another is very standard. In order to increase the frequency of the power stroke, the front pedals should be 90 degrees away from the back. In other words, the back (stoker) will be able to start a power stroke just as the captain is ending one, and so on. It has to do with productivity.A new badge is on the way after I called Kent about the scratches (I knew they couldn't do anything about those) and the Kent badge. The customer service representative was really polite and supportive. I'm going to remove the crooked badge and replace it with a brand-new, completely straight one.I'm 5'8" and weigh 190 pounds, and my girlfriend is 5'7" and, let's just say, a lot less than that (there's always room for diplomacy), so you might also want to know that. We'll fit on this bike just nicely. My little experience leads me to strongly advise this specific model for casual riders. I'm waiting to give my review a fifth star because it hasn't yet been used many times. Hope this was helpful.
