We switched to powdered shock from liquid shock because of the need to store the large 2.5g jars, the risk of spillage, and storage in general. When I first started looking into choices, I contrasted a few brands based on how much chemical was contained in each pound of powder. The best value per pound was found to be HTH Super Shock, if the chlorine content is correct. This product has now been in use by us for three months, and so far, it is doing admirably (measured by weekly chem tests).I would only propose a grid, table, or chart for individuals who have trouble estimating how much to use and/or may not have a kitchen scale, in addition to the graduated marking on the package. The dosage is easy to figure out, but it would be good to have a short chart with graduated lines printed, such as "1/4 package (4oz) for 3400 gallons, 1/2 package (8oz) for 6750 gallons, etc."

The hot tub stuff is new to me. We first tried an all-in-one mix that you would pour in once a week when we first bought our hot tub in May. It was a catastrophe. The water was always hazy, it smelled bad, and disgusting material was constantly accumulating. I cleaned the hot tub and tried these after draining it. I was anxious because I had never balanced a hot tub before. I must have done something right the first time! In conclusion, after filling the hot tub for the first time, you basically add #1 and #2 at a rate of 1.5 oz per 150 gallons. After it has been balanced, add #3. When I initially used the test strips, I was astonished to see that I was in the "ok" zone. Anyway, these chemicals have no odor, the water is crystal clear, and even a hot tub "novice" could figure this out (the baqua test strips are offered separately and you'll need them!)
