NOT A GAS TRIMMER, THIS! Now that you have that in your mind, you may take use of this small gem's advantages. I've always owned gas hedge trimmers. I have always detested when siding, edging, and fences are accidentally damaged. Additionally, I have never enjoyed being pelted with rocks and mulch bits traveling at 145 mph. Ringing in my ears and vibrating hands are likewise not at the top of my list of enjoyable experiences. All of those concerns are addressed by this tiny 20V trimmer. It can cut grass but isn't as strong as a gas trimmer. What else do you require? It is significantly lighter. It vibrates much less. It's quite silent. In my view, the lack of power is advantageous. For a more precise, detailed cut, it is much simpler to control. Naturally, the flip over edging feature lines up your natural edges on landscaping beds like a champ. You must be wondering, "How long does the battery last?" I have five trees to trim, a quarter acre with big beds, a fence, curbs, and a fire pit. This machine handles them all and has enough power left over to power my Worx blower across all the now-grass-covered areas. If I were a professional landscaper, would I purchase this? Nope. If my yard was twice as large, would I still buy it? Sure, it has two batteries, but I'm only using one right now. I don't feel guilty. The gasser will be sold today during a garage sale!

The most of the grass, weeds, and sticker shrubs in my yard are haphazard. The yard maintenance has been made much easier by this equipment. It appears to last around 20 minutes. I've had to stop twice to finish my yard as a result. Since I don't mind working on different areas of my yard at once, I can't say that this has been a problem for me.Although it does arrive in a straight line out of the box, the instructions do include advice on how to set up the correct tilt (Hint: Its nothing more than putting your foot on the guard and manually adjusting it with a little force). What do you anticipate from a battery-powered weed whacker, even though it is not the strongest one available? It performs as you may anticipate. It was unable to cut a few overgrown weeds, but there were only two of them in the entire yard. Therefore, going back and manually chopping those down just took me a minute.Since my yard doesn't really have any edges, I haven't tried using the edger, thus I can't really review that part. Nevertheless, a wheel and instructions are included. It appears to be quite simple to alter before trimming.

To replace a dead gas-powered trimmer, I purchased this device. As long as one remembers a few warnings, it functions quite well.1. Swamps and underbrush clearing are not its intended use. It is for landscaping and grass care for homes. About 1/2 horsepower is the motor's rated power. Using it is not intended for lumberjacks.2. Never place the head in the center of the patch that has to be trimmed. Bring it carefully toward the desired location. Additionally, avoid forcing it into weeds or grass. Just direct it; let it go and do its thing. Stressing it out can very easily result in malfunction or failure.Do not anticipate miracles. It costs $50. Price the animals that the experts employ.

Analysis of:Greenworks 14-inch Cordless String Trimmer with Charger and 40V 4Ah Battery #21363My Greenworks battery-powered weed eater arrived yesterday morning. I opened the box with JJ's (my dwarf pit's) assistance and took the weed eater and all of its pieces out. The handle and weed guard were the only two components that required assembly, which was rather simple. But before doing anything, I started charging the 40-volt, 4-amp battery. My recent purchase of a Greenworks 12 inch chainsaw included a 40volt 2ah battery and charger. On Amazon, a review of that already exists. It took roughly an hour to charge the first time.I searched the house and the shed for some safety glasses as I waited for it to charge. My wife's shooting range glasses were the only thing I could find. Although they would function perfectly well, I think I looked gorgeous wearing safety glasses with pink frames. LOL!In case you're wondering why I'm gradually switching the outdoor work instruments I can afford to battery-powered models I'm sick of pulling, yanking, and pulling to get the Ryobi powerhead to turn on. Since I own an acre of property, I must admit that I do work the poor Ryobi rather hard. Additionally, the powerhead serves as a weed eater, pole saw, blower, and cultivator/mini tiller because I have all the accessories. However, I have to get a new one almost every season. Therefore, by the time I get the damn thing running and keeping running this season, my shoulder is already singing, and I am over it. My reconstructed shoulder is also over it. Due to my increasing desperation, I finally decided to test out the purportedly superior and more potent battery class yard tools.I took it outside and walked to the front of the house, where I peered doubtfully at a row of about 2-foot-tall weeds. Since I abhor weed eating with a burning passion, they hadn't been weed whacked since the middle of last season. The constant vibration from gas-powered weed eaters causes severe shoulder pain.The first thing I observed is how heavy this Greenworks is. Do not let any critics persuade you otherwise. There is no escaping the reality that it is weighty. The Ryobi powerhead with an accessory weighs exactly the same. Also take note that my Greenworks unit did not come with a shoulder strap.the abilityI'll get back to it now. With my brand-new battery-operated weed eater exhibiting no signs of fear, the weeds were there grinning and laughing at me. The fact that you could simply press the power button, squeeze the safety trigger, then pull the regular trigger to start the gun was such a blessing. Oh my God! I'm not worn out and irate before I even begin a job! However, because there were so many of them, the weeds were unimpressed. When I pressed the other button, the other setting—High—was selected, and the vehicle accelerated quickly and loudly. The weeds took note, and I believe I saw them begin to quake slightly in dread. I entered the office more certain. Oh, the weeds are being slaughtered! What a horror! I was working from the top down while giggling like a lunatic, as seen from the perspective of the weeds. This device was functioning as intended. Eaten weed! To be fair, there were no woody weeds to give the others a boost. All of that was labor I had done over the winter. However, they were still numerous and densely layered. They had little hope of success.The Bump head: I said a small prayer when I realized I needed additional line. I have never used a bump head that functioned properly. NONE. That always required me to use a head from a third party into which you insert a cut line. I gave the ground a little tap, and holy cow, it worked! Impress me, please!It vibrates, that much is true. BUT, I repeat, BUT! A gas-powered device is far from being as terrible as this one. My hands, arms, and shoulder all expressed their gratitude.The Balance: I had no issues with the Greenworks unit's balance. I am 5' 6†and it felt fine to me.Battery Life:sI kept it on High setting for about 25 minutes before stopping because I wanted to save something for a video review I am planning to do. Battery was still running it.Noise level:sAfter about 15 minutes of run time my daughter in law came around front. I was able to hold a conversation with her while working.

Solid 5-stars on this one. This weed whacker is hands down the best I've ever owned.Battery/ies DO come with it.Fairly solid construction - it's got plenty of plastic pieces, but they aren't too flimsy or easily breakable.Battery power and life are excellent. I've got a small to medium-sized yard with a fence around it, and one battery takes care of it all. Just in case it were to run out, the second battery (which comes with, if you choose that option) is on the charger.There are two battery "modes" - power and battery life - and they do exactly what they sound like. Power mode gives you more cutting power (at the expense of battery life) and battery life gives you longer cutting time (at the expense of cutting power) (at the expense of cutting power). I've found that the vast majority of my weekly weed whacking needs are taken care of using the battery life mode. You can quickly and easily switch between the two modes if you need a little more oomph.Battery runs about 20-30 mins (of actual cutting) on the power saving mode, a bit less on power mode. If you find you need more run time or power, you can always upgrade to higher capacity Black Decker universal battery (available at hardware stores, Amazon, etc) (available at hardware stores, Amazon, etc).As for the string/cut wire, there are easily-replaceable pre-loaded heads that simply click into place. From what I've read in other reviews, there are ways you can string it yourself with whatever string you like. Personally, I'll stick with the pre-wounds - I'm 3 weeks into this product and still using the first pre-loaded cartridge that came with it. Plus you can get a three-pack of replacements on Amazon here for about $9 (product number is AF-100-3ZP) (product number is AF-100-3ZP).The product description doesn't say this unit has an auto-feed feature, and says it has a button on the handle that releases more string; the button sure does work, but I've found that the unit seems to be auto-feeding itself most of the time too. I've rarely had to to "tell it" to let out more line. It's been quite convenient and thus far hasn't tangled or anything.Additionally, the unit can be extended to make it taller/shorter. You just twist the lock, shorten or lengthen as-needed, and twist the lock back into place. Very quick and simple.There is a "safety" on the handle that you need to hold down with the side of your thumb before you can pull the trigger. It's very conveniently placed and doesn't make it hard to use.My only minor complaint with this unit is the handle (the one mid-way down, not the one with the trigger) (the one mid-way down, not the one with the trigger). It functions just fine, but it's got "lock" points (to set the angle how you like it) that occasionally come loose. It has to be set to one of these three lock points and sometimes, if you've been using it awhile, it'll vibrate out of the lock and slip to the next one. Takes all of about 2 seconds to set it right again, so it's certainly not a deal breaker, just a little annoying when it happens.

After three years of arduous use, I've recently ordered a second GreenWorks 21212 4Amp 13-Inch Corded String Trimmer. I have been using one of them to clear my entire half-acre property, which is located on the edge of the high desert in Oregon. This includes ironweed that grows over a septic leech field, wire fences, and rock gardens. These trimmers are excellent, but there are a few things you should know to get the best performance out of them.These have two strings, and only when using both strings will the automated advance function properly. This brings up the replacement spools that are offered by different businesses but actually DON'T FIT THE TRIMMER. So disregard them and get 200–300 spools instead. Rewind the original spool that was included with the trimmer, and then use 065 round (I say round - I haven't tried the edged string) string. You can tell which direction to wind the spool by the arrow on top of the spool. The direction of winding is the SAME for BOTH strings. There is a slot in the spool where you can insert the string to start it in the direction that you intend to wind it. This secures the string in place and enables winding.How to advance the trimmer after loading the stingers. Please note that the trimmer does not have a sensor notifying it when to release additional string. Each time you release the power, the string advances and the spool is given the chance to come to a complete halt. You'll hear the spool make a tiny click just before it stops. This indicates that the advance has been reset, and the strings will advance once the power is turned back on. Until the stings are where you want them, you can stop and start the trimmer as much as you desire. MANUALLY - To advance the strings manually, turn the trimmer on its handle and scan the spool for a tiny, black, rectangular button. Play around with it and move it around, and the string will move forward.Given the 4 amp motor of this trimmer, there may be brush or dense weeds that you cannot cut through without the motor straining. You can overcome this. Navigate to a single string. BUT keep in mind that with only one string, the automated advance will not function properly. The string must therefore be manually advanced. By doing this, you can cut through weeds and grass that are thicker and cause less wear on the strings. Although the cut won't be perfect and you could need to make two passes, the motor won't most likely bog down.
