No, Torx and hex are not the same. Torx is a type of screw head that is six-sided, while hex is a type of screw head that is eight-sided.
Torx screws and bolts are commonly found in many electronic devices. They are also used in some automobiles, motorcycles and bicycles. The Torx drive style was originally developed by Camcar Textron in 1967. Torx screws and bolts are not metric or SAE, but are a proprietary design.
Most people believe that you cannot use a normal socket on a Torx bolt, but this is not the case. You can use a normal socket on a Torx bolt, but it will be more difficult to do so. The reason for this is because the Torx bolt is designed to be used with a specific type of socket, known as a Torx socket. While it is possible to use a normal socket on a Torx bolt, it is not recommended.
If you don't have a Torx bit, you can use a hex bit instead. Just be careful not to strip the screws.

These Torx sockets are expertly constructed. Even though they weren't employed in high-torque situations, the few of makings I used were simple to read and performed effectively. The situation, though, may be improved. The Torx sockets all "fit" into the casing, however they are not secured. As a result, if you accidentally bump the case while it is open or, God forbid, open the case upside down, all of the Torx sockets just fall out of their positions because nothing is holding them in except for the lid. What they "fit" into are hard-surfaced depressions that, while large enough to accommodate each bit socket, do not actually HOLD the Torx sockets in place. Just no justification exists for this. The "tray" that the bits rest on is made of a common sort of blow-molded plastic that could have easily been designed to grasp and retain the Torx sockets, as many other socket sets (whether Torx or not) do. However, despite the case's physical quality (it has the same exterior structure as many brand-name sets available in stores), the Torx sockets should be secured in place by the insert, not the case. Even so, I enjoy the set, but the situation only justifies a rating of 4 instead of 5.

Hex bit sets have been useful for a variety of activities. The M6 hex bit I was using fell off. I contacted Lexivon, provided the necessary details, and they sent me a replacement bit. It's good to know that they stick behind their warranty and goods. Note that the box's paper packaging, not the box itself, contained the serial number that was sought. The serial number should be recorded somewhere, as they will need it to file your warranty claim, therefore register your product. It seems strange that the disposable paper pack, rather than the case housing the bits, bears the serial number.

The person responsible for creating the fasteners that call for these "triple square" or 12 point star bits ought to be put to death. Having said that, you must have a set of these if you own a VW or another application that uses those fasteners. There isn't much to say other than that they are well-made and functional. Since these are essentially hex-shank bits that have been glued into the correct-sized 6 point socket, the manufacturing is tricky. decent enoughOne of the bits I received was somewhat misshaped, but it still functions. I don't like the blow-molded case very much. They take up a lot of space and there is nothing to keep them from falling out if the case is moved or opened improperly. If you don't have a socket rail, get one.

I believed I had finished buying tools. The front wheel bearings of this Saturn Astra (Opel) were then required. I was in need of the peculiar E8 socket in this set. It worked perfectly. The only thing I got was an empty envelope because my original order was misplaced. Horusdy sent a replacement set when I alerted them of the problem, even though it was obviously Amazon's fault. excellent clientele service.

This set's T60 bit was the sole reason I purchased it. For my 1998 lumina, I required it to remove a caliper bracket. Before I began this project, I was unaware that these bolts are known for eating T60 pieces alive. As it turned out, nothing I did could get these bolts to move. Despite my best efforts, nothing moved. I tried hitting the ratchet handle with a 4 hammer, but that had no effect either. After a lot of impacting, I finally grabbed my Ingersoll Rand pneumatic impact wrench and slammed the bit on it (knowing that these bolts weren't impact rated). Except for minor dirt and rust deposits from the bolts, the piece doesn't appear to have been used at all. This component withstood abuse and still looks almost like new. I was able to buy it. Again, I am in awe of this (I used a cheater bar on my ratchet to FINALLY liberate the other two bolts that wouldn't move even with the 550ft.lbs. of bolt shattering force of my impact wrench).

Needing the "almost desired" 9mm Hex when abroad. Lexivon performed admirably. I went to Amazon because I couldn't find one locally, and this set was the one to buy. They are substantial and heavy. I am pleased with my purchase because I know they will last for many years. Fast Amazon shipping, a quality product that is well-made and packaged, and one that I will keep in my toolbox for years to come.
Yes, star sockets are available for purchase. They are most commonly used to remove and install lug nuts on vehicles with wheel hubs.
There are a few ways to determine what size Torx you need. If you have the fastener in front of you, the size is usually stamped on the head. If you don't have the fastener with you, you can measure the diameter of the hole in the center of the fastener. This measurement will correspond to a specific Torx size. Finally, if you know the thread pitch of the fastener, you can use a thread pitch chart to determine the correct Torx size.
If you don't have a Torx screwdriver, you can use a flathead screwdriver or a nail. Insert the flathead screwdriver or nail into the center of the Torx screw. Apply pressure and twist the screwdriver or nail clockwise to loosen the screw.
There is a difference between star and Torx screws. Torx screws are less likely to strip than star screws.
There is no Torx bit between T15 and T20. Torx bits are numbered according to their size, with the larger numbers corresponding to larger bits. Therefore, there is a gap in the numbering between T15 and T20 because there is no bit that falls in between those two sizes.
Star shaped sockets are called Torx. Torx is a type of screw head that has a six-pointed star-shaped pattern. It is used in a variety of applications, such as in computer hard drives, where a Torx driver is required to open the case.
