For a few weeks now, I've had this basketball hoop put up in the backyard of my home. It took roughly 30 minutes to construct a box. After perusing a few hoops in the BX and Walmart, I made the decision to check out Amazon and discovered this one (I recommend a second person solely for when it's time to put the backboard/rim together and mounted onto the pole.) It's held up well for me and my five boys ever since it was erected (although I did pick up the bag of base gel from the BX — it's a must-buy for these sort of hoops as it lasts just about a month before more is needed in the base).I finally get to the "for the most part" in my review's headline at this point. The hoop collapsed during the weekend as a result of the base's gradual loss of gel from evaporation. When it was put back upright, I noticed the tilt in the backboard when I got home from work, which most likely resulted from the base tipping over due to a lack of gel. Despite how tiny the "tilt" is, it is still apparent. It advances somewhat from close to where the backboard's rim is up to the top of the backboard. Since the backboard is balanced by two wing bars that run from close to the rim on the back of the backboard up and outward towards the top corners, there is really no way to adjust the backboard to make it (and keep it) straight. Therefore, any attempts to reset those wing bars would simply further compromise their integrity and increase the likelihood of further harm.Conclusion: A decent basketball hoop, but be careful to regularly check the base gel (or water... or if you get sand obviously evaporation wouldn't be an issue... your option though). After being deployed to Iraq for a year, I found that I simply couldn't handle the mess of more sand on a daily basis.

This was purchased as a birthday present for our 10-year-old, who is possibly 55" tall (we are unsure). He's always expanding). He adores it. I don't believe I have it set to the highest level. At his request, I raised it to the second setting. It was not possible for me to raise it any higher by myself because I am quite weak and rather short. Having saying that, I did put the majority of it together on my own. You will unquestionably need two persons to install the background and fill it with sand (unless you have 3 arms, then it would be ok :p). So when it came to those, I enlisted my spouse. Since the Northeast can experience some harsh winters, we decided to use sand instead of water since I didn't want the water to freeze and expand, possibly harming the plastic. Water also simply smells bad. We used two (2) 60lb bags of all-purpose sand from a home improvement store because I went bonkers trying to figure out HOW MUCH SAND we utilized. Play sand would have flowed more easily in hindsight. Although we did lose some of the sand, you can always know when enough is enough. Therefore, ASSUME 120lbs of sand! It was said here. Additionally, I believe the instructions mention it somewhere, but I was unable to locate it. Due to my lack of trust for the neighbors, we play it on the grass in our backyard (sad I know). So it's wonderful for what we need it for. The following level can be desired by someone who is rougher, larger, etc. Even if the basket is oddly short, it doesn't affect the ball, and we do have a regular ball. Since my kids were little and our pool only had cheap hoops, it didn't matter. I now have high school students, and for tough adolescent boys, this is THE hoop to get. First, they need to be able to shoot because it can be lifted so high that NO ONE can dunk (not even adults). Second, the rim is full size, so even though I wouldn't advise using an actual basketball, it does make the outside game significant, which is typically nonexistent in pool basketball because everyone goal-tends (you can't goal tend on this hoop when it is at its greatest level). Third, the backboard is made of premium plastic and is transparent; it resembles the kind of hoop you may have in your driveway and makes it appear more professional than the cheap hoops you can buy at big-box stores. The base is also VERY strong. Teens can dunk when the hoop is at its lowest position, but don't worry—this base is so solid that they won't be able to drag the hoop into the water (which is what happens with other hoops).To set up, you will need a socket set, and setup proved challenging. However, it is nothing compared to how resilient these hoops is.

The good: This hoop is excellent. I decided to acquire a hoop for our kids because I am a 37-year-old father who has played a lot of basketball throughout his life. This hoops has a really lovely feel to it. The glass gym boards and the acrylic backboard play quite similarly. The children are unable to just throw it off the backboard and see it land in the hoop. It barely shakes at all. The space is solid and has a pleasant bounce. With this hoops, I'm extremely happy.The bad: As other commenters have pointed out, the instructions are a complete mess. I made an effort to read everything that I had put out before starting. Even the screw and washer counts don't line up with the directions. I was in a panic and searching for extra parts. I discovered that I had all the necessary components when I finished the setup. However, the first "what's in the box" portion is incompatible. I salute you if you are able to navigate this setup without making a mistake. It is really difficult to tell how things are arranged in the photographs. I don't see why they don't just make a video link showing how each of their models is assembled step-by-step. This would be really beneficial. They could instruct you and demonstrate the proper alignment of the various poles and gear, such as "making sure your saw horse or comparable item is at least 4-5 feet high." The crank shaft is also extremely sluggish. You will need to spend some time there if you want to increase from 7.5 feet to 10 feet.I give this a total of 4 stars. When it comes down to it, all I really want is a good hoops, and this is a good hoops. I would give Spalding five stars if the instruction procedure were fixed.

precise description A 4/5 rating was possible but for the shipment issue. Following some delay, it took an additional 5 days. Amazon offered no solution, just an apology. Installing was really simple. Since the new bracket is missing, I had to get creative with the old one. It was cut off the original backboard, and new holes were drilled. According to Lifetime, any backboard can be used if you have a Y bracket. They recommended one that cost twice as much. This one wasn't heavy. lower quality than the original, it seems.

Well, before I bought this hoops system, I did a lot of research. I wanted a glass backboard, a square tube pole, and a mid-range (around $400) price. I was okay with in-ground because I have space and don't need to move. I took my time and completed the installation over a 4-day period (maybe 7-8 hrs in total). On day 1, it took 3 hours to dig a hole and prepare it by adding forms and rebar. On day 2, the pole assembly took one hour. On day 3, it takes 3 hours to pour concrete and install a pole. Assembling the rim and hanging the backboard took one hour on day four. Here are some guidelines discovered along the way:Although a 2 foot deep by 2 foot diameter hole might not seem like much, digging one in the dense, sticky clay of Southeast Texas proved challenging. alternated between using a post hole digger and a shovel to remove clay from the digger. In order to increase stability, I finally belled the bottom sides of the pit with the shovel. using wire mesh that was compressed into a cylinder and secured with zip ties. To add stability, two pieces of 3 foot long rebar were placed in the center of the hole, sticking out vertically so that a pole could be put onto it later. In order to fit a 2 foot square 2x4 form, I squared off the top of my hole. I constructed a structure for the pole to clamp onto on the form during the pouring and curing of the concrete.The 4 inch tubular square pole is available in two substantial parts. Embrace the hype. These two parts could be meant to be together, but they don't want to be. The pieces needed to overlap by 4-5 inches, so it took about an hour to start them into each other by about a half-inch while balancing horizontally on saw horses, then drop them (cement end down) into a concrete block from a 3 ft step ladder. Once you get going and find your groove, they easily integrate. It merely required some trial and error to determine how to establish the link. Once put on, it cannot be taken off. very close! In order to improve the bond area when cementing into the ground, I additionally drilled two holes on the bottom end that would go into cement and attached two radially protruding 1/2 inch X 4 inch long anchor bolts. My hoop pole will probably be overkill, but I believe it will stop a train.Pour — Ok, so the important thing to remember is to have plenty of time (say, three continuous hours) since you want to fill the hole and roughly 3/4 of the pole in one pour (even if it means your daughter will be late to her soccer match — drat!). I needed a total of 12 X 80# bags of Quikcrete (hole pole). One bag at a time, mixed in wheel barrel, then directly poured. About halfway through the pour, I slid a pole atop my rebar pieces and into the hole, leveling it perfectly before attaching it to the 2x4 supports fastened to my forms. For a more durable system, throw out the plastic insert as others have advised. Furthermore, I find it impossible to envision moving this thing once it is buried. Make sure to tape the pole's seams and holes before continuing to pour concrete until the hole and roughly 3/4 of the pole are filled. You will leave the top two feet of the upper pole hollow so you can subsequently thread the backboard supports. Using a milk gallon jug that had been split in half as a scoop, concrete was added to the pole while standing on a ladder. Here, the instructions call for filling the pole with concrete before installation, but that wasn't done. That would have been excessively weighty.Backboard — Ah, that was really simple (ier). The backboard was put together exactly as instructed, and I was able to hold it up by myself while my 12-year-old daughter drilled the bolts. Due to our appreciation of the sound the metal net makes, we decided to replace the nylon one ($3).:)To keep it from getting boring, we made it a family installation adventure and spaced it out over a few days. Consider it a pleasant project rather than a quick task to avoid being frustrated. The finished product is quite solid and stable. nice workmanship Every day, the kids and I go shooting hoops! Enjoy!

purchased as a present for my hubby. He adores it. Compared to the tiny 7' plastic backboard he had been using, this is a huge improvement. It is a legitimate 10' tall when measured from the rim at its full height. Don't intend to move it about other than to position it where it will be and leave it there because it looks extremely great and REALLY heavy when it is fully constructed and filled with water. The height is simply adjustable. Everything we needed, excluding the tools, was included, and nothing arrived broken. You should probably be at home to receive it because our delivery man needs assistance unloading the vehicle. It was transported via UPS Ground on a regular basis. As long as we read the instructions and tackled each task one at a time, building it together really wasn't that difficult. Unless you want to make it difficult for yourself, this job requires at least two people. Although the labeling of the bolts could have been improved, you can figure it out with a little trial-and-error and counting. The instruction book is not quite as awful as it could be. To put it together, you'll need a few tools. We ultimately needed pliers, a ratchet, a wrench, and a phillips head. You don't necessary need a "sawhorse," but once the pole is joined to the base, you'll need something to hold up the middle to serve as a fulcrum and keep the backboard off the floor so you can install it and the rim. This something may be an unfortunate third party or an inanimate object. Up until the moment comes to attach the rim and the pole arms, you can get away with resting the backboard flat on the ground. We took our time during the build, which took us around 4 hours in total. We don't have any issues about this system overall; it's great!
