A few years back, I bought an Original SNIP from a physical store. One of my favorite fishing investments ever! This one can cut Spectra braid up to 300# with ease and frequently does so without putting the line under tension. Probably more than 90% of the time, it would cleanly cut limp Spectra braid, albeit not always. In my opinion, this is a five star product.A few years later, my dependable SNIP "disappeared" on a fishing boat. So I went out and bought three new SNIPS: a Big Salt, a Long Fly, and another original. I was creating a lot of wind-on leads and used the new equipment for both home and outdoor leader construction. This new group of musicians performed respectably, but not at the same level as that first Original SNIP. The new ones occasionally cut through limp Spectra but easily cut tightly stretched Spectra. That's all that can be anticipated from these instruments, I think. Most cutting implements can't cut through limp Spectra line with precision. My first set of SNIPS, however, was so remarkable that the fact that the new ones don't have the capability is disappointing.These earn five stars for performance. They cut fishing line as is required of them. They receive three stars for value. There are many braided line cutting instruments available, such as inexpensive children's scissors, that work just as well and are far less expensive than the SNIPS. These scissors are generally used by me to cut apart used garments for rags. They easily cut through thick seams in jeans, but if I need to use scissors for anything in my shop, these do the trick.They are quite well crafted, and the covering is tough. With these scissors, I have cut anything from rope to thin steel cable, and neither the cutting edge nor the finish have been harmed. Even though I brought a wire wheel to them to remove built-up adhesive, the finish was unharmed.The handles are constructed of very heavy plastic and are molded to the full tang blades. A piece of sandpaper easily removed the sharp edges that were left behind from the molding process inside the handles.even when clogged with glue or tape residue, run quite smoothly. Cleaning the coating is simple with alcohol and a wire brush thanks to the coating. There is no play or wiggle between the blades, and the hinge is very solid.The lower handle is a touch too tiny for my hand to fit comfortably inside, but this is my only concern.Trust me, I've looked, and you won't likely find a better set of general store usage scissors.

As an alarm and video system technician, I work for a security firm. Next to my 3M electrical tape and soldering iron, this is the one gadget on my hip that I find to be the most useful. These small powerhouses have the ability to easily cut everything from cat-5e to 16-2 stranded. The strippers on the side of the shears work well for phone and cat-5 wire, but they will also sever stranded wire, so you're better off using the shears instead. Grab the shears, twirl them around the wire to strip it, and make a light cut through the shielding. It is intended to be extensively scored without really cutting through the copper. The shielding is then twisted in the opposite direction until it breaks cleanly and peels off by grabbing a location just after the scoring mark. When working with wire that doesn't have a draw string and you don't want to take the chance of cutting into the smaller bundles of wire inside, this method works beautifully. Although it is feasible if you roll the shears on the wire as you apply pressure, I wouldn't advise cutting solid wire heavier than 16 gauge. If you force your way through 14-2 1 romex, your shears will roll, making it impossible to cut properly until you file the edge down. For anything that heavy, use wire dikes, and you won't encounter any issues. One of my coworkers has a pair of them from 2004 that still easily glide through wire and strip. These shears will outlive you for years to come with just a light coating of ballistol or your preferred CLP. I made sure to get multiples of this fantastic product from this excellent company so that I would have backups in case production were to ever stop. These need a much higher rating for low voltage operations. You already have the majority of what you need for everything other than wiring a house with mains with this and a good 11-in-1 screwdriver.

These shears, in my opinion, are of great quality and served my purposes effectively. For repairing surfboard dings, I used to cut fiberglass cloth using kitchen scissors, but the scissors would invariably cause runs and pulls in the fabric. Now that I had to work with glass cloth once more for a different interest, I was determined to come up with a better way to cut the fabric. These are substantial, heavy shears (but not in a bad way). Despite thinking I wanted the larger 12" version, I went for the smaller 10" model. This didn't turn out to be an issue. The 10" version operated smoothly. The shears' stiffness in the hinge is the only thing I have to say against them. I'm not sure if the problem is with the hinge specifically or the fact that the shears appear to be applying some pressure on the two blades. To put it another way, they kind of overlap, which causes the blades to brush against one another as you cut as they get closer to the tip. I can hardly open them with only my cutting hand since they are so tightly shut. I lubricated the hinge, but it had no noticeable effect. They might take a break during overtime. They performed a great job cutting the fiberglass cloth, therefore I wouldn't give them back.

These scissors appear to be strong and of good quality. I keep one in the "tool/junk drawer" and the other as shears in the kitchen. After about 6 weeks, I spotted something on one that I initially mistook for food, but I now think it's rust, which is sad.
