Best Power Random Orbit Sanders in 2022

Last update: January 6, 2023

Are random orbital sanders any good?

Random orbital sanders are one of the most versatile and effective tools you can have in your arsenal, and they are great for a variety of tasks. Whether you're looking to remove paint, stain, or varnish from a surface, or you need to smooth out a rough edge, a random orbital sander can get the job done quickly and efficiently.

Can you use an orbital sander on furniture?

An orbital sander is a powerful tool that can quickly remove paint, stain, or varnish from furniture. It can also be used to sand down rough spots or uneven areas on the surface of the furniture.

Do I need variable speed orbital sander?

A variable speed orbital sander is a great tool to have in your arsenal if you regularly work with wood. The ability to adjust the speed allows you to sand more delicate surfaces without damaging them, and also lets you sand more quickly when you need to.

Is a round or square sander better?

There are benefits to both types of sanders, but it really depends on the project you're working on. If you're working on something small, like a table top, then a square sander might be better because it's easier to control. If you're working on something bigger, like a deck, then a round sander might be better because it will cover more area faster.

DEWALT DCW210B 20V MAX Brushless Orbital Sander (Tool Only) Review:

This has already been used for a couple MAJOR projects. But it's a LOT better not to trip over a big extension cord when crawling beneath a ski boat to sand it down for painting. The battery life meets my needs well. Although I have a stack of Dewalt batteries, I've discovered that the weight ratio of the tool and battery is best with a 4 amp hour cell. It's SO great to have the variable control. When sanding, you occasionally don't want or need to use a sander at maximum force. So, from my old cordless sander, that is also a good benefit. Although I can't imagine using my corded Dewalt sander in the future, I won't sell it just yet. Its unusual hole design from my corded Dewat 5" orbital sander is an intriguing feature to note. My existing dust extraction pads only fit in 2 holes. Strange but not a deal breaker. My old sanding disks' velcro pads are the perfect size, but the holes aren't aligned. Other than that, I'd give this a five-star rating as a tool.

DEWALT Random Orbit Sander, 5-Inch (DWE6423K) Review:

My wife recently requested me to restore our wooden address sign, and I'm your typical weekend DIY warrior. Now, when we bought the house, the address sign was included, and I'd say it had 30-ish years' worth of painting and repainting caked onto it. It became obvious that a mechanical sander was necessary after rough sanding it to obtain a better picture of what I was dealing with. The Dewalt DWE6423K Variable Speed Random Orbit Sander is now available.Once the little orbital sander has been unboxed, there is not much to set up. You basically have to take out a piece of cardboard, look over the tiny instruction booklet, and untie a twisted knot. Of course, you'll need to buy some suitable sandpaper; for my small project, I bought DEWALT DW4303 5-Inch 8-Hole 120-Grit Hook-and-Loop Random Orbit Sandpaper (5-Pack) and DEWALT DW4301 5-Inch 8-Hole 80-Grit Hook-and-Loop Random Orbit Sandpaper (5-Pack), though there are other alternatives.Dust Bag: I skipped using my shop vac to connect to the sander for my modest project. I'm not so sure I would be able to connect my shop vac to the sander now that I've read a few reviews. Nevertheless, while I worked around my address sign, the little dust bag did a wonderful job of gathering the fine paint and wood dust. The bag can contain a lot of dust, so you won't need to empty it frequently. According to what I've read, you'll probably need to buy an adapter if you want to use this with a shop vac.Performance: I quickly removed the paint off my address sign with this small orbital sander, and the wood was exposed. The sander is smooth and manageable, and I had no sense that it was resisting me in any way. Even the smallest elements, like rounding the corners of my address sign, posed no challenge. Make sure the holes on the bottom are lined correctly before removing one Velcro-secured pad off and replacing it with a fresh one to change the sanding paper pads.Orbital sander, dust bag, toolbag with zipper, and owners' manual/warranty card are all included in the box.In conclusion, I don't regret buying this orbital sander. Sincerely, I regret not ordering it sooner and giving up on being obstinate enough to hand sand so many little jobs. I like it; it's recommended!

Bosch Power Tools - GET75-6N - Electric Orbital Sander, Polisher - 7.5 Amp, Corded, 6"" Disc Size - features Two Sanding Modes: Random Orbit, Aggressive Turbo for Woodworking, Polishing, Carpentry Review:

I acquired this expressly to work on boats in a DIY capacity that isn't professional: sanding fiberglass, gelcoat, and bottom paint. In my spare time, I devote myself to woodworking.Benefits: - It removes bottom paint at an astonishing rate; when used in heavy-material-removal mode with a 40 grit pad, it eliminates material almost as quickly as an angle grinder with a flap disc.- A 120 square foot cedar deck might be sanded to prepare for finishing in under 30 minutes when operating in standard mode.- With a Fein Turbo 1, the dust collection is great (The Fien hose fits perfectly on this sander.)- The ergonomics are excellent; even when working overhead, I never had any trouble getting a grip on it.- Extra pads are incredibly inexpensive compared to those from Makita and other German brands, which is why I chose this tool over the identical Makita. The vac port being at the back of the sander is excellent for hose/cord management.- Has a high quality feel; it's not quite as nice as many older tools, but it feels well for a modern tool. It seems to have enough power for any task, and the only restriction is my ability to control it.- I anticipated that it would become warm during use because it looks to be powered by an angle-grinder motor. I'm delighted to report that it only gets a bit heated even when working hard.Drawbacks: It's heavy. You will become weary from any type of labor requiring you to support the weight of the sander. I had to use a number of adapters and buy new hoses before I could use my Fien vac to get something that would operate with this sander without getting in the middle of the job. If the vac port were raised another 10mm, it would make a huge impact because it is currently just slightly too low and close to the work. I considered purchasing a Bosch hose especially for this tool, but the cost is prohibitive. I was forced to purchase a brand-new Fien shop vac due to the cost of simply buying a decent hose.I've saved so much time using this over the past few months that it has been well worth every penny. Although it may appear pricey, who likes to sand?

SKIL 5” Random Orbital Sander- SR211601 Review:

I've been laboriously hand sanding a dining table while I strive to restore its finish. The poor thing's veneered top had bowed and peeled after weeks of exposure to the weather while its previous owner gathered items to take to the neighborhood dump. But I wanted it since it's strong, the ideal size, and has a good profile. I used to refinish several items with a Skil saw and sander in the past, but I eventually caved and purchased this small sander to finish the project. I believe I may be in love. This guy quickly leveled the tabletop and made it as smooth as a baby's bottom, which is certainly something I could not have done with weeks of hand sanding. Crevices that were filled with wood filler are the only thing that I believe may require some human labor because the sander was perhaps a little too thorough in certain little locations. (BTW: The dust collector works quite well, so there is essentially no dust. I believe that some reviewers who have had problems have either never used a sander before or simply didn't follow the directions and recommendations that are provided for 2 minutes. Although I have no idea how long the sander will last, my past success with Skil goods gives me hope that it will endure for many years and be used to refinish a variety of other items for my now-undownsized house.

DEWALT Random Orbit Sander, 5-Inch (DWE6421K) Review:

I adore working with wood, but I despise sanding even more. It can be annoying to stand there for what seems like hours while tediously sanding through the different grits with a dusk mask on, a fan to blow away the dust, or a dust collection octopus hose attachment, especially if you're holding an uncomfortable sander.Right now, I own a Porter Cable 6 "sander. It is a monster to manage. Although the 90 degree side handle helps with sanding broad areas and the cylindrical main body grip is unpleasant, you occasionally have to remove it to sand in tiny spaces since it simply gets in the way. The dust collection hood is ineffective, and once more, you must drag a dust collector with a hose attachment attached around the shop. Be ready to sand in a dust cloud and get covered in fine dust if the dust collector isn't connected. This sander's weight makes things worse; it might be tiresome to sand for an extended amount of time.I was considering a vehicle that was small, had a low center of gravity, and "Porter Cable is strong and offers a reliable dust collection bag where the center of gravity is offset to the side along the main body (and we all know that some sanders come with dust collection bags but are an after thought and really collect nothing but air). Dewalt makes the majority of my power tools, including my favorite 20V hammer drill and driver set, therefore when I'm considering Dewalt items for use, their credibility is much increased. They are reasonably priced, of high quality, and have a long lifespan.I made the decision to order one after reading the DWE6421reviews K's on Amazon. The moment I plugged the sander in and switched it on when it was delivered, I became aware that a lot of air was spewing out of the dust port. The dust port on my Dewalt DW735 planer is so powerful that all you need to do is connect it to a dust collector and turn on the planer; there is no need to turn on the dust collector because the force of the planer blows dust and chip particles right into the dust collector bag. I also love this tool. There was a lot of air flowing out of the dust port on the DWE6421K sander's startup, reminding me of the DW735 planer.I connected a dust bag and began sanding an antique piece of furniture with old varnish on it. I was certain that this would clog and slow down the sander, but I was pleasantly surprised. The center of gravity was directly over the main body, so the sander did not slow down and I did not need to press as firmly. The sander barely slowed down even when I applied pressure. The varnish was easily removed with an 80 grit. What I observed was that there was little to no dust emanating from the sander's sides or base. When I opened the dust bag, I could see that the dust had been contained effectively. As I sanded my product with grits of 80, 120, 150, and 220, I observed that the pig tail swirl marks were scarcely perceptible. I used a 220 and 400 grit hand finish. The Dewalt sander made a huge contribution to the project's excellent finish, which I achieved when I sprayed the finish on.Wow is all I have to say. What a nice feeling to have a strong sander that is light, nimble, and doesn't fight me when I sand down a project. It also features a dust collection bag that actually works. What a bargain, especially when you consider that the sander is only $59 a unit. Trust me on this; I've been making excellent furniture for thirty years (any Sam Maloof lovers out there?) and whenever I can find a tool that is effective, inexpensive, easy on the body, and able to withstand everyday usage, I'll add it to my toolbox when working on woodworking projects.I wholeheartedly endorse this sander! I don't really like it, but I might actually enjoy sanding!

TACKLIFE Orbital Sander, 3.0A 5-Inch Random Orbit Sander with 12Pcs Sandpapers, 6 Variable Speed 13000RPM Electric Sander Machine, High Performance Dust Collection System, Ideal for DIY - PRS01A Review:

This is a fantastic small sander all around. Pre-sanding deck boards and posts in preparation for prestaining was a significant sanding project for me. I didn't want the wood to seem that terrible, even though a big amount of it was in quite poor shape. It had to, at the very least, be safe for bare feet, because cedar posts, by nature, are all very rough and require sanding. The heaps of boards needed to be sanded, so I had to stock up on everything from 40 grit to 80 grit (you don't want higher than that for optimum stain absorption).I already own a DeWalt sander, though. I actually wore out my first Dewalt years ago with all the sanding I do, so I had to get another one. This sander works well. I purchased this one since I needed assistance to complete the monuments challenge. I really didn't want to spend a lot of money on something I wouldn't use in the long run, and the sanding job was way too enormous for me to handle alone. However, when it came to actual sanding, this held up and performed just as well as the DeWalt. The only way to tell the difference is to actually hold one in each hand and use them both at once. The difference is that the switches turn on in the opposite direction, which is not a big deal and actually a plus when using both at once (mirror motion). There is also a very slight difference in the smoothness, but it is not even remotely worth the price difference. I combined the two of them to speed things up when I was working alone. It was resilient and outperformed the DeWalt. It's the same length as the DeWalt chord, and I've noticed complaints about short cords. Most individuals utilize extension cords when using power tools, including myself, unless they have their table saw or chopsaw plugged into the wall.Only the annoying dust collector is a drawback. I appreciate the DeWalt bag's push-and-turn removal method. This hard plastic collection initially sounds like a nice idea and would probably hold more than a fabric bag, but it is difficult to remove. It is a struggle to get it off, and it is annoying to shake and look at it while it is dusty. Maybe I would have tried to connect it to a vacuum line if I had a shop vac or anything nearby (I also ruin those with so much use). Given that the boards were very lengthy and there was a lot of movement throughout this sanding task as opposed to what one would perform in a single product like furniture or anything, that would undoubtedly be uncomfortable for functionality. The ideal method was to place one person at either end of the long board and push sand toward one another in the middle, rotating the board as we went.As a result, the dust gathering issue wouldn't be as significant if you weren't having to continually empty it. Otherwise, there are no complaints about the general performance, which is excellent considering the price. Choosing high-quality sandpaper is important; I purchased a variety of types and grits as necessary. One brand had a really great surface that was sturdy and rough to quickly remove the posts so that I could switch to a higher grit, but the hook side was terrible, making it uncertain as to whether they would stay on at all. I mention this because the sandpaper, not the sander, is to blame if you're not satisfied with how quickly your sanding project is progressing. Naturally, it moved forward much more swiftly when I obtained a different variety with the same grit.

BLACK+DECKER Random Orbit Sander, 5-Inch (BDERO100) Review:

Update: This thing is still going strong after two years and a ton of heavy use. I use this on average twice a week to sand carbon fiber and fiberglass. Motors do not like that material. However, this is still functioning perfectly, and the Velcro pad is even in excellent shape. I happily paid $30 instead of the $100 I would have spent on this item. I also gave this a good beating. It is not well-cared for or pampered. At the end of the day, I throw it into my toolbox, where it endures all the punishment.I'm surprised this thing is still operating considering the cost. I bought this eight months ago and used it to restore a fiberglass rowing boat. Sanding old paint and fiberglass, finishing new fiberglass repairs, preparing the entire shell for paint, and I've just begun another fiberglass/carbon fiber repair that is STILL doing admirably. My considerably more expensive craftsman orbital's motor failed during a previous project and was unable to handle the carbon fiber. This sander has now completed two tasks involving glass. I'm thrilled.

PORTER-CABLE 20V MAX Random Orbital Sander, Cordless, 5-Inch, Tool Only (PCCW205B) Review:

The wife used this to sand cabinets before repainting them. Despite the fact that it was not even connected to the Porter-Cable vacuum, she really enjoyed it and claimed the dust collection was excellent. Hey, how can it be less than 5 stars when the wife provides this kind of feedback for a gadget she used to perform handyman work? I advise purchasing extra sanding pads because you will require them. I'm glad I added this to my collection of porter cable 20v.

What grit should I use to sand my deck?

If you're planning to sand your deck, you'll need to choose the right grit of sandpaper. A lower-grit paper will remove more material and leave behind a rougher surface, while a higher-grit paper will remove less material and leave behind a smoother surface. For a deck, you'll want to use a medium-grit paper, such as 60- or 80-grit. This will remove any roughness from the surface of the deck and leave behind a smooth, even surface that's ready for staining or painting.

What is the best electric sander to buy?

There are many factors to consider when purchasing an electric sander. The best electric sander for you will depend on the specific needs of your project. Some factors to consider include: the type of surface you will be sanding, the amount of power you need, the size and weight of the sander, and the price. What is the best sander for rough wood?

There are a few things to consider when purchasing a sander for rough wood. The most important factor is the type of sander you need. There are three types of sanders: orbital, palm, and belt. Orbital sanders are the best type of sander for rough wood. They have a large pad that oscillates, making them ideal for removing large amounts of material quickly. Palm sanders are best for small areas and tight spaces. Belt sanders are the most powerful type of sander and can remove a lot of material quickly, but they can also

What is the best sander to use to sand a deck?

There are a few different types of sanders that can be used to sand a deck. A belt sander is the most powerful option and can remove a lot of material quickly. However, it can be difficult to control and can cause damage if not used properly. An orbital sander is a good option for someone who is not experienced with using a belt sander. It is easier to control and will not cause as much damage if used incorrectly. A hand sander is the least powerful option but can still be effective if used properly.

What is the best way to speed up the sanding process?

There are a few ways to speed up the sanding process: 1. Use a power sander - this will make the job go much faster than doing it by hand. 2. Use a coarser grit sandpaper to start with - this will remove the roughness quickly. 3. Use a finer grit sandpaper to finish - this will give you a smooth, finished surface. 4. Use a vacuum attachment on your sander - this will help to keep the dust down. 5. Work in small sections - this will help you
