Since I've been making blades for three years and have purchased approximately five inexpensive grinders, this one is by far the best. A word of caution: if you don't work the spine of your blades carefully, it will simply start to devour your blades. Additionally, it uses direct drive to power the rotation of the belts rather than using a supplementary drive belt.A very useful feature is that you can rotate the arm with an Allen wrench to change its orientation from horizontal to vertical, where you may utilize the bottom wheel to remove a lot of material, to use the platen. All in all, a fantastic machine if you want to start out or upgrade your grinder.The housing's bottom was put together in such a way that it was too tightly affixed to the lower wheel, which was its one drawback. As a result, it could only be used with the supplied 80 grit belts, and I had to use a small detail sander to smooth up the housing. I did alert the manufacturer to this problem, but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt and assuming the problem slipped through quality control.

After reading the numerous horror tales other reviewers had shared regarding their belt drive versions, I placed my order. This Bucktool doesn't have those issues because it employs a direct drive. The miter gauge was unfastened in the package when it was delivered. There was no damage, and installing the supplied belt was simple. The machine can be bolted to a table using the two holes in the base. Make sure you lower the tilt of the belt assembly if you don't bolt it down. This will enable its integrated adjustable support leg to prevent a disastrous rollover. I have so far used this equipment without incident to lightly sand things made of metal and wood. It simply works. I'll give it an extra star if it turns out to endure for a respectable amount of time.

fantastic tiny sander It is simple to switch belts and center the belts in the belt section. It is very simple to sharpen chisels, scissors, knives, and other hand tools because there is a metal plate below the belt. The motor is robust, and I haven't experienced any bogging down when using it. I used this right out of the box for almost three hours and experienced no motor troubles at all. If I rest any tool on the deck on the belt, it frequently falls because it is difficult to hold tight. I made the decision to stop using the deck and instead just sharpen my instruments by hand. The disc portion is useless. Because the pad is fastened to the machine, I had to use a heat gun to remove it before using mineral spirits to wipe the adhesive residue. I just purchased hook and loop disc paper for the hook and loop pad I added to the disc portion. Issue is resolved. The disc deck is stronger than the belt deck, although it is still somewhat flimsy. The decks' angles are inaccurate. I haven't experienced any walking, wobbling, or balancing problems so far, and the base is solid. I've used this machine for around 20 hours in the last three weeks, and I've already placed an order for another one for my brother for Christmas.

I ADORE THIS SO MUCH! I can now complete my task in the batches I've planned all at once. The only drawback is that a LOT OF DUST is kicked up into the air. I was using a hand sander before (a Ryobi corner cat), and it would take me HOURS to finish a 1/8th of what I get done now with this bad boy, in I swear, a 1/8th of the time. The first day I didn't wear a mask or goggles (yeah, not very brilliant, I know), and my lungs were irritated from all the sawdust I had inhaled. I'm trying to see what I can rig as far as a shop air vac things. The following day, I wore the mask and goggles, but I detest doing so because it makes it difficult to see. The belt completed roughly 60 of the 1' x 1" thin, raw wood pieces I work on in less than 40 minutes, and it still has plenty of bite left to do more. Even though I didn't use the wheel very much, I can say with certainty that you should tighten it UP FRONT! The day it arrived, my husband only put the whole thing together partially so we could look at it before leaving. I turned on the sander after fiddling with the belt tensioner and started sanding my sticks, not realizing that the wheel/disc WASN'T secured, and the disc flew across the garage! So yeah, be sure to follow all safety precautions and have fun with this little beasty.

I just got it and am incredibly impressed. had recently purchased a Harbor Freight belt sander. When I finally tried the Harbor one, the motor stalled with the slightest amount of pressure and was unable to keep the belt moving. I could tell right away that this Rikon sander was well made as I plugged it in and turned it on. The frame is made entirely of metal, tracks flawlessly, has enough of power, and the portion that supports the belt at the back is really robust. I work on jewelry scales frequently, so a compact, sturdy belt grinder is a great shop tool.I was going to make one, but this unit is less expensive than the component parts.As a result, the belt self-destructed right out of the box and it tracked poorly. I saw that the belt had been put on wrong when I looked at it; arrows indicate which way is up.A second belt that I correctly fitted has worked well.Therefore, this is an excellent little tool if your needs are for small wood objects, brass findings, or the occasional cutting tool trim.It's the ideal companion for my Sherline lathe and mill because of its convenience and modest footprint.

I used this sander to replace a larger, more expensive, seized bearing sander. I figured I'd use this tiny machine while the other was getting fixed. Unexpectedly, this tiny Powertec sander performs significantly better than my old one. It is more space-efficient, runs more quietly, and has a dust shoot that enables me to connect it to my shop vacuum in order to eliminate dust. The dust shot could be made a little bigger to capture even more dust, and I'll probably figure out how to do that myself. I utilized it the first day it was hand-delivered by USPS. very simple to set up Unlike the one from Harbor Freight, it is more simpler. This one is, in my opinion, far better and more affordable. I put it through its paces with the 80 grit disc and belt that came with it. If you put too much strain on the belt, it will bog down, but I had to apply some significant pressure before it started to slow down. Nothing like the Harbor Freight model, where even the slightest bit of pressure causes it to sag.The aluminum, 6" disc platform is reasonably strong. It sits at almost 90 to the disc (relative to the HF, as that was the one I replaced), but you'll need to double check if you want a full 90. The measuring marks are on a sticker, and the miter gage is made of plastic. This is fine, but I really don't think I'll ever need the miter gage for precise sanding.Although I don't use the dust collection on the back, it is a wonderful addition for those who do wish to install a vacuum system.For the occasional enthusiast like myself who needs to do some lengthy mild sanding, I recommend getting this unit. However, if you truly need a powerhouse to do some severe sanding, this is not the right machine for you.
