You can put DE directly into your filter, but it's not necessary. If you want to, you can add a cup or so of DE to the skimmer basket. This will help to keep the DE from clogging the basket.
If you put too much DE in a pool filter, it will cause the filter to clog and won't work properly.
Yes, you can swim in a pool with DE in it. DE is short for diatomaceous earth, which is a type of sedimentary rock. It's safe to swim in a pool with DE, but it's important to keep the DE level low so that it doesn't get into your eyes or nose.
Assuming you are referring to a pool, you should backwash first to clean out the filter. Then you can rinse it with clean water to remove any debris.

Amazing ! This top was an excellent fit for my older unit. We tried everything to reseal the gaps in our previous fiberglass lid, but it cracked and could not be sealed. When we put the new lid on the pool, my kid exclaimed, "Oh GOOD it's PLASTIC... the old one should have been plastic and not fiber glass!" That was encouraging because he is an expert pipe fitter and knew how to install it quickly, but he claimed that I could have completed the task myself (I'm not very good at installs). The pool businesses required a label, and we had covered the old label while attempting to stop the leaks. I'm just so relieved to have found a lid at last. Although I couldn't see the filter number, it was #178555, and after reviewing the questions and answers for this item, I discovered that this exact number was mentioned by a customer as fitting. Thanks for that, by the way! On Amazon, this lid was MUCH CHEAPER! Can I just mention that this lid arrived on the day I ordered it, which was also a Sunday? Like, that shipping is absurd. Prime, I cherish you.

Precisely measured amount of DE to recharge your filter after a backwash or cleaning. Use 1 full bag after each backwash or cleaning. 1 bag = 1 backwash. There is no need to measure or scoop DE out of a big bag or box which you have to store until the next time you need it. You only buy what you need and no more.
Solves all the headaches associated with adding DE to your pool after a backwash or filter cleaning
Keeps DE powder off your face, skin, clothes and puts it directly into the skimmer where it belongs
The proper dose of DE helps your filter work better and run longer between backwashes and cleanings
Make sure to select the right size EZ-DE bag that matches your filter. 3 sizes are available, 36sqft, 48sqft, and 60sqft. 72sqft filters use 2xEZ-DE36 bags. If your filter is not one of these standard sizes then simply select the EZ-DE bag closest in size to your filter size.

I have a salt water/sand filter system from Inex. When the filter runs, salt water systems produce their own chlorine. When I purchased the house last summer, my pool was included. Pool was a trade. densely covered in leaves and dark green. After work every day for a week, I mindlessly shoveled the leaves out with a net until I only got one or two. The filter was operating in "boost" mode at this time. After I noticed little progress, a friend advised me to shock the pool. After adding 8 gallons of shock, the water turned blue and cloudy, allowing me to view the bottom and remove the last of the leaves and debris from the pool. The following week, I vacuumed each day. The pool was still blue but hazy. The same acquaintance advised me to aid the sand filter by adding DE. After waiting for the pressure to rise before adding another cup of DE, the pump's pressure increased by 1 psi. The water was crystal clear after 24 hours. The DE thoroughly cleaned the water of any remaining debris. Definitely worth the money, and I have enough DE for three or four seasons.

I had previously reported being undershipped. This problem was resolved by the supplier, and I am pleased with the outcome. I'll definitely make another buy from them. The first review I wrote is below. The item is good. I've bought it numerous times throughout the years, and each time it has been same and wonderful. The issue is that I only received two of the four 25-pound cartons that were ordered. After I complained, I got another one two days later. I raised my concerns once more, but they were dismissed. I received one 25-pound box less than I ordered.

This is my first time using the product; previously, I used D.E. for years before learning that it could be harmful if inhaled. As a result, I switched to cellulose powder, which is a mess and works well but cakes up on the filter screens. So far, I like this product; it was delivered on time and in good condition. You must first pre-mix it in water before adding it to the skimmer basket, so keep one of your 50# chemical buckets handy. It bothers me because it settles on the tile in the pool and is easy to brush off. Perlite appears to keep the water clear just as well as the previously suggested treatments. Unlike with Cellulose or D.E, I haven't had to backwash as frequently. It receives four stars because of the deposits on the tile.

I bought this to replace the OEM filter that came with my Hot Springs spa. The filter was properly wrapped and delivered on time without any damage. If the filter hadn't been a little bit shorter than the one I was replacing, as some reviewers have noted, I would have given it five stars. Not as significant for my spa as some have seemed to make it in their evaluations, but I had to deduct a star because the description isn't quite correct. Simply by being sure to hold the filter down firmly while fastening the cap, it appears to be functioning properly and saving me money compared to OEM replacements. I would advise trying out this filter replacement.

When we fill up our hot tub, we always utilize this. The water samples we brought to the pool/spa dealer did not differ noticeably from those without the filter. The iron in the water is the main distinction that we notice. Without the filter, the water has a brown tint that we would need to attempt to remove using chemicals and filtering, but with the pre-filter, the water is remarkably clean despite the fact that the results of the rest of the tests they run on the water are almost unchanged. It makes no sense not to use this when we fill our hot tub considering how cheap these cost and how many gallons I can get out of it.
No, you don't have to add DE every time you backwash. You should only need to add it when you first fill your pool, and then every few weeks to keep the water clean.
Chlorine is often used in conjunction with a DE filter in order to keep the pool water clean and free of bacteria. Chlorine helps to kill any bacteria that may be present in the water, while the DE filter works to remove any dirt or debris that may be present. This combination of filtration systems helps to keep the pool water clean and clear.
If your pool's DE filter is not working properly, there are a few things you can look for. First, check the pressure gauge on the filter. If it is reading higher than normal, this could be an indication that the filter is dirty and needs to be cleaned. Another sign that your DE filter is not working properly is if the water flow from the return jets is reduced. Finally, if you notice any DE powder accumulating in the pool, this is also an indication that the filter is not working properly.
A DE pool filter can last for quite a while if it is properly maintained. With regular backwashing and care, a DE pool filter can last for 5 to 10 years.
Adding DE to a filter helps to clean the water and make it clearer. The filter should run for at least 24 hours after adding DE. This will help to remove any DE that is left in the filter and ensure that the water is clean and clear.
