But I see that it's made of carbon steel, however if it were made of titanium, it would withstand a house fire. For my sunflower seed feeder, I purchased a squirrel baffle and this shepherd's hook. I positioned the baffle on the pole beneath the feeder. In the past, the squirrels would just scale the shorter poles I had bought and chow down. This is the second of these; the first, purchased years ago, differs only slightly but clearly has the same HD build. We had issues with cunning raccoons robbing yard feeders, and then we saw on game video that deer were also participating in the nightly snacking routine.We made the decision to relocate the feeders to our high porch deck rail, where at least deer would be less likely to visit; in addition, we chose to purchase an automatic feeder (Wingscapes AutoFeeder Automatic Bird Feeder) to lessen the need for frequent refills. This fixed the deer and raccoon issues, along with the heavy duty extended reach hanger mounted on the side of the deck rail. As an extra plus, the feeder could be quickly swung inboard to the railing for less difficult, occasional refills and then out again for safety and simpler viewing from the house. Even though the hangar has not been shut down too firmly over the course of several years, the heavy feeder has not been disturbed and has not displayed any symptoms of rust.My wife and I like to watch the birds, and we've been giving Cardinals sunflower seeds. This was purchased to hold a hummingbird feeder. Although it is strong and well made, it is a touch too short for what we need. even though they are listed as 65 "Long here refers to both the portion above the support hook and the portion buried in the ground. My height is around 51-1/2 "from the ground's surface to the top of the support hook is a height that can be used. As a result, you have a little bit more space to work with than 4'. To determine how low the bottom will be, start with this and then deduct the length of whatever it is that you will hang from it. In our situation, the hummingbird feeder wasn't too horrible on its own. The bottom of the feeder is about 40" above the ground because it is only about 11-1/2" long. We are beginners with hummingbirds and didn't realize that we would probably need to add an ant trap to the hanging process, which would drop the feeder even further and give me a clearance of less than three feet, which is too low. The hook is wonderful as long as you are aware of these restrictions, but the 65 inches listed in the description are seriously misrepresented. My educated judgment is that the length is restricted by what can be transported by the mail or UPS at a reasonable cost.
