Pellet stoves are not as messy as some other types of stoves. They do not produce as much ash and soot as wood-burning stoves, and the pellets themselves are relatively clean-burning. However, pellet stoves still require some maintenance in order to keep them operating efficiently and to prevent build-up of creosote, a combustible substance that can cause chimney fires.
A pellet stove can heat an entire house if it is the only source of heat. The stove will need to be vented to the outside, and the pellets will need to be refilled regularly.
Pellet stoves are a great way to heat your home, but can you leave them on overnight? The answer is yes, but there are a few things you need to do to make sure it is safe. First, you need to make sure the pellet stove is vented properly. Second, you need to have a fire extinguisher handy in case of a fire. Third, you should check the pellet stove regularly to make sure it is operating properly.
A pellet stove is a great way to heat your home if you have access to wood pellets as a fuel source. They are very efficient and can often heat your home even during a power outage. However, you need to have electricity to run a pellet stove.

An updateI wanted to update my review now that I've had this for a year. This stove functions flawlessly after playing with the air intake limitation modification and exhaust blower speeds. Although the hopper size is unquestionably a weakness, this stove is by far the best value available. I also realize that the reason for the sporadic "expansion" noises was that I did not have the machine's weight distributed equally across all four feet. The only sound now is the clinking of the pellets when they exit the shot after I adjusted those to be roughly even.To determine the ideal combination of modifications based on altitude, pipe length, and pellet quality, you will need to account for time. After you've done that, you can essentially set it and forget it. My 2200 square foot, three-level home is kept comfortably warm when I run it on setting #2 the most of the time. The original evaluation I wrote when I received the stove last year is just below this one.——————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-I must add that this $1,000 pellet stove did not let me down in the least. I knew when I bought it that I would get precisely what I paid for. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the manufacturer could simply make a few minor improvements to it without significantly increasing the price, and it would then be an outstanding deal.First of all, it arrived in good condition and the shipment was efficient. However, I had to go over and tighten each exterior screw on the device.Let's be clear that some folks gripe about the smallest of details. Yes, due to heat cycling, this stove occasionally makes some noises. ALL stoves do. Metal expands when it heats, and the joints are made to "give" a small amount when that occurs. The device is fine once it reaches thermal equilibrium. You won't like this or any other wood stove if you're type A, have severe anxiety, and get upset over the smallest things. Overall, this stove isn't any noisier to operate than any other, not even Harmon. On the lowest setting, this machine will only run for 18 hours on a single 40-pound bag of pellets. It will finish that bag on number 3 of 5 in 12–13 hours. You will need to fuel this stove at least twice a day because the hopper is actually only designed to hold 40 lbs. of pellets. Again, I was aware of that when I purchased it, so there are no docking points there. Both soft and hard wood pellets burn flawlessly in it. If opening the inlet gate (inside the stove) doesn't work by itself, you will need to slightly alter the exhaust fan voltage. This stove requires a little dance to get it just right, but once you do, it burns incredibly beautifully and cleanly. For that to be done correctly, YOU WILL NEED PATIENCE. It's a waiting game, and you have to make little adjustments as you go.It excels at cleaning things. It is as simple as it gets and only takes a few of minutes to clean. This blower's volume is a little louder than other brands', but not by much. It works well and has complete speed adjustment. It would be much simpler to load if the manufacturer simply slightly increased the size and made it able to carry 50lbs. of pellets. As it is, in order to keep things moving when more fuel is needed, you must throw a partial bag in. Additionally, rather than phillips head screws, they should use another kind of fastener to clean the blower as often as they advise once a month while it is in continuous use. The threads on these will eventually wear out, and they will need to be enlarged. Last but not least, they need to widen the hopper lid's entrance. The opening is barely large enough to dump the bag into, and if you lean even slightly to the front, pellets will flow out and dust will enter the vent holes. When you're pressed for time, it's annoying. However, this stove is quite cost-effective. This is not the stove for you if you want a high-quality, lifelong appliance. However, it is a good-quality stove, and I anticipate 8–10 years of trouble-free use from it.

Because I didn't know any better, I reinstalled my Quadrafire after it had been cleaned and a part replaced and it worked just fine. As this pellet stove is rarely used, it ceased functioning correctly after about two years. After further investigation, I discovered that the thermocouple was burning because the thermocouple cap was missing. There is no fault, however make sure the ceramic cover is constantly on. The thermocouple and cover I bought both work perfectly. When buying this, which is the same as my old one, be sure to choose the less expensive cover. This fits maybe three or four different models; I have a Quadrafire 800.

I carefully researched this pellet stove online and read a lot of customer reviews before making my purchase. After installation, the pellets burned a touch too cool for the first few days, causing residue to accumulate in the burn pot. Then, in order to unplug the air holes, I would have to switch it off and clean the burn pot again. I thus looked in the owners manual's troubleshooting section and saw that I needed to change the exhaust voltage. I changed the exhaust voltage to higher settings in accordance with the manual's directions to allow for more airflow. This fixed the issue entirely. It burned the pellets like a champ after the air flow was increased. No more issues. It is a very quiet stove, as other reviewers have stated. Our 1500 square foot cabin in northern Michigan has been perfectly heated as long as I have kept the pellet feed settings in the low range (one or two only). Only when we have turned off the pellet stove and gone on vacation for a day or two have we used our gas furnace. I haven't burnt any propane otherwise. The stove is very simple to clean. In the end, I invested in an ash vacuum to make the work even simpler, and it was well worth the $40 or $50 I paid for it. I will also concur with others that the atmosphere created by the stove is fantastic and that the blower's noise level is only a background hum. Because it is so silent, you can clearly hear the pellets falling into the burn pot before you can even hear the blower. Yes, I'd suggest this stove. Everyone in our family and circle of friends has appreciated it and is envious of us because we have one and they do not. Hahahahaha.

Harmon & Heatilator Combustion Blower Motor
$234
I'm amazed at how quietly the stove operates now. Over the past eight years, I had no idea how loud it had gotten. I only had to cut or strip the stove wires, crimp the provided male connections onto them, then snap the unit together after it arrived with electrical hookups. Voila ! I'm really delighted with this purchase, which I paid half as much for as the dealer wanted to for the same combustion blower. Even though I had to use a saws-all to cut the old fan's spindle, putting the new motor and fan to the original mounting bracket and into the stove was a piece of cake. Was pleasantly pleased by how quietly everything operates today. Now I can hear the TV clearly!

The only issue was that when I contacted the manufacturer they advised installing this unit yourself will void the warranty and may cause difficulties with home owners insurance. However, the insert arrived pretty fast and was not cheaply wrapped, and it has worked really well for us. For this unit, I did buy a liner kit, and as advised, I vented it through the chimney and cap that were already there. I do believe that this pellet stove is well-made. It is neither the cheapest nor the priciest pellet stove, but it is in the middle, and so far, it has operated flawlessly with very little ash buildup and a quick start-up. My home is about 2100 square feet, and even when it is kept at a low setting, the unit has done an excellent job of heating the house and distributing heat evenly throughout each room. Additionally, the manufacturer does suggest an exterior air intake. My suggestion is to get an expert to install it so you won't encounter any warranty issues.

Location: 8,225 feet in the SoCal Mountains. Typical winter lows at night are around 15 degrees. use this stove in a 24 foot Yurt that is insulated. We have encountered numerous difficulties when utilizing propane or kerosene at this altitude. Assembly and setup were easy. The written instructions are clear and concise. This stove continues to perform exactly as promised after several months. Not everyone should use this stove. Although this stove is very easy to use, you will need to clean it every few days to maintain its effectiveness. I am using Douglas Fir pellets in accordance with the directions, and a 40 pound bag lasts me around 18 hours. I had no draft issues while using a 3-4 reducer with a 90-degree elbow, 24 inches of 4" double wall, and 60 inches of 4" double wall. Additionally, I installed a 3 inch fresh air intake per the directions. I can raise the temperature of this to 600 degrees in less than 20 minutes. There is not much to upkeep once it begins rolling. Every six hours or so, I shake the secondary burn chamber, and after that, it just continues to function. I don't need to keep adding wood every couple of hours. A 40 lb bag of ash yields around 2-3 shot glasses' worth of very fine ash. It will need to be shut down (takes a few hours) after burning for roughly 48 hours in order to remove the fly ash out of the main burn tunnel. It merely needs a quick clean before you can start using it again. Here, there is no electricity for me. Wood is difficult to cut, split, etc. I was completely aware of all the small details, including the need to replace the burn basket every year or two. I think this stove is great. I like how simple it is to use and how much heat it produces. My running costs are much lower than they would be if I were using kerosene, and I no longer experience cold.10 p.m. on January 31, 2018: 19 degrees; wind speed: 10-15 mph. The interior temperature stayed between 65 and 68 degrees all night.

In order to heat my outdated, inadequately insulated brick cape in Maine, I bought two of these stoves in 2016. The house was warm during the coldest weather that last winter had to give thanks to the stoves that were built on opposite ends of the building and vented into pre-existing stone chimneys. However, at the beginning of this heating season, both stoves started to have issues with the burn pots becoming overfilled with pellets to the point where, if I ran them for the typical 24 hours between cleanouts, the pellets would spill out into the areas on either side and would still be there when I cleaned the stove. The issue was resolved by buying new control boards, each of which cost $189. We'll know in due time if this is an ongoing issue. I am happy with the stoves' overall effectiveness and output of heat. Less pleased that control boards must be replaced after just one heating season.
Pellet stoves have been known to cause a smoky smell in houses, but this is usually due to incorrect installation or poor ventilation. If the pellet stove is properly installed and ventilated, there should be no smell.
Pellet stoves are a great way to heat your home and save money on your energy bill. However, you may be wondering if they will raise your insurance rates. The answer is maybe. Some insurance companies consider pellet stoves to be a fire hazard and may charge you a higher premium. Others may not consider them to be a risk and will not raise your rates. It is best to check with your insurance company to see if they consider pellet stoves to be a risk.
A pellet stove is a stove that burns compressed wood or biomass pellets to create heat. Pellet stoves look like traditional wood stoves but they operate differently. A pellet stove does not need a chimney but it does need an exhaust pipe. The exhaust pipe can be vented through a wall or through the roof.
A pellet stove typically produces more heat than a wood stove of the same size. However, some wood stoves are designed to produce more heat than a pellet stove.
A ton of wood pellets will last for approximately 130-140 hours in a standard wood pellet stove. The average home uses about 10-12 tons of wood pellets per year.
A 40-lb bag of wood pellets will burn for approximately 24 hours in a pellet stove.
