It's not recommended to remove the oil filter without draining the oil first because there will still be oil in the filter canister and you could end up with a mess. Also, the oil in the canister will be dirty and could contaminate the new oil filter.
Oil filters play an important role in keeping your engine clean and running smoothly. Over time, however, they can become clogged with dirt and debris. When this happens, they need to be replaced. You may be wondering if you can use the same oil filter twice. The short answer is no. Using the same filter twice can cause problems for your engine, including decreased performance and increased wear and tear. When you replace your oil filter, be sure to dispose of the old one properly. Some auto parts stores will take them for recycling.
If you over tighten an oil filter, it can cause a leak. The oil filter is there to keep contaminants out of the engine, so if it's not tight enough, those contaminants can get in. But if you over tighten it, you can crack the housing and cause a leak.
No, you do not need a special wrench for oil filter. A regular wrench will do the job just fine.

What the doctor ordered, exactly. After a few years of performing routine maintenance on newer cars on my own, it became clear that the auto industry does not drug test the engineers who create their automobiles. In this instance, the cap is too large to simply slot a socket on. It was deemed by some less-than-stellar engineers that an intake would look great if it was positioned about 1.5 inches above and slightly to one side of the nut on the oil canister lid. Just just near enough to prevent removal of the lid and access to the filter using a standard socket. The length of this object allows it to fit beneath the intake. I can resume operations after adding a ratchet and one extension. Interestingly enough, I haven't yet been able to locate the spark plugs.

I read all the reviews and did extensive research on the many tools that were similar to this one. I'm really pleased with this purchase. According to other product reviews, they were broken in half, the filter housing was removed, etc. When my car was last serviced, a Toyota dealership replaced the filter housing. I actually had to use a large pry bar on the wrench in order to release the housing because I was unable to do it using just the socket wrench and this tool. With the aid of this tool, it was easily removed. Since I purchased my 2012 Toyota 2.5L, 4 cylinder auto used, this was the first time I changed the oil in it. When it first came, this tool's description noted that it was intended for a Toyota engine with 6 or 8 cylinders. That worried me up until I used this instrument and saw how well it fit. The filter housing had a great tight fit that didn't slip or peel, and the slots for the filter housing's tabs also matched up properly. I spent a lot of time investigating these equipment because I'm used to changing the canister-style old oil filters. One more thing to keep in mind is that other tools similar to this one that claimed to work with my Toyota 4 cylinder are really 64.5mm. This 64mm tool is the right size for my Toyota. The 64.5mm would probably be a touch loose and wouldn't fit my four-cylinder as well as the 64mm, in my opinion. This review, I hope, was helpful.

One review I read claimed the oil filter spilled and the seal was inadequate, but the truth is that if you don't perform an oil change properly or if you overlook a step, you're putting yourself in danger.Although I know how to change the oil, there was no leak with my 2014 Sentra. I'm not saying it can't happen, but from my experience, the oil hasn't leaked.Actually, when my 2018 Kawasaki Ninja 400 needs a new oil filter in another 300 miles, I'll just replace it with the one already there. However, I would use a 25 mm 12 point of contact socket for this one.

My 2012 Corolla had a blocked air filter. tried a less expensive model of the tool (the silver one that claims to be very strong). The filter canister wouldn't budge despite my attempts to remove it with a breaker bar for more than an hour. Eventually, the less expensive tool broke. This tool and a 27mm socket to be purchased in order to remove a stubborn filter. Don't loosen with a 3/8 drive.- Make sure your engine is warmed to normal operating temperature before you take a drive.- Take out the pin preventing the filter from rotating.- Before emptying the oil, make an effort to dislodge the filter. No use performing a partial oil change if you can't remove it.- With the instrument with a 1/2 "use a 27mm socket to drive.- Hold the tow hook with one arm while holding the breaker bar with the other if you are lying on your back.– Success.Use a 3/8 "To reinstall, drive the ratchet to a reasonable torque.

For removing an oil filter on my 2018 Ram 2500 with a Cummins diesel, the item performs just as promised. Remove the filter, placing it carefully on whatever is directly below it while maintaining stability. Install this with the help of the other hand until it is snug against the o-ring/seal on top of the oil filter. To remove said oil filter without dripping at least a quart of spent engine oil all over the frame, turn it sideways. To get the new filter that has been filled with fresh oil in without spilling, remove the tool from the old filter, clean it, and then put it on the new filter by going backwards.Although I agree that it might cover more of the filter seal, as indicated in other reviews, it still covers enough to prevent leakage.

My 2011 Camry V6's filter suited this tool flawlessly! This is a really durable tool, and I changed my oil on a morning in Minnesota that was 34 degrees without any shattering, as some people do with comparable equipment. Do not remove your filter using a 3/8" socket driver, as numerous people have advised elsewhere. Because I lacked the 27mm socket, I simply loosened the filter with a larger crescent wrench. I used my 3/8" socket to complete the filter removal when I managed to pry the filter loose. Because you only need to get the filter snug, not tight, I also installed the replacement filter using a 3/8" socket. The socket will do this with ease, and unless you really crank your filter wrench, which you shouldn't do anyhow when installing a new oil filter, it won't break. Excellent stuff and lightning-fast delivery!
When removing an oil filter, it is important to follow the manufacturer's instructions. In general, oil filters are designed to be removed in a counterclockwise direction. However, there are a few oil filters that must be removed in a clockwise direction. Be sure to check the manufacturer's instructions to determine the correct way to remove your oil filter.
You should let your oil drain for at least 15 minutes. This will allow the oil to completely drain from the engine and catch any potential leaks.
Oil filters should be changed every 3,000 miles or every 3 months, whichever comes first.
It is important to make sure you oil filter is tightened properly to ensure optimal engine performance and preventing oil leaks. The general rule of thumb is to tighten the oil filter until it is hand tight, and then give it an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn to ensure it is secure.
If you don't tighten an oil filter properly, it can cause an oil leak. This, in turn, can lead to engine damage, as oil is essential for lubricating and cooling the engine. A loose oil filter can also cause the engine to overheat.
