I need this not only for around the kitchen, but also as an aid in getting into some of today's vehicles, like SUV's. The plus is that once in the car, the stool can be folded until I need it to get in again. As for the kitchen, I don't have room to keep it open all the time, and it is a little annoying to have to snap it open each time I use it. (And I tend to pinch myself when closing it.) I am truly on the plus size, however, (2X women' size), and I have no fear that this will collapse when I use it. It is strong!

I have updated to 5 stars. In spite of what I said about having to open the stool whenever I use it, I absolutely love that I can reach things and put things away myself without asking my husband to help. Every time I use it, I tell myself, "I love my stool!" I have even discovered over time how to open and close it without getting pinched. I love my stool and I love the independence I have with it.

A driver who shall not be named backed my Ford F-150 pickup into a loading dock and sheared off my Amp Research Bedstep. At $225, it was borderline too expensive in the first place and I certainly wasn't going to buy a second one.
On the other hand, what to do? The F-150's tailgate is 36" off the ground and climbing up there is a hassle. Even the pricey Bedstep wasn't a perfect solution...it was only about a foot off the ground, so the second step was a killer. Worse, trying to get down from the tailgate with something in my arms always left me feeling like Wile E. Coyote, dangling my foot down and blindly using my toes to try and find that little step WAY down there.
I looked at a number of small stepladders, but most of them are very bulky and "stack" when folded, so they're thick and difficult to store. Some don't open or close smoothly, and most need careful handling to avoid pinch points.
I saw this one and thought, "How can I go wrong for $14?". As it turns out, this does the job and as far as I'm concerned, does it better than the Bedstep at less than one-tenth of the price. It is sturdy, light, very compact when folded, opens and closes smoothly and easily, and has a simple, effective latch built into the top step. The steps are 12" and 24" high, perfect for climbing to a 36" tailgate. It fits easily behind the driver's seat even in my regular cab, with plenty of room to spare.

I bought one of these to potentially use with a custom built outdoor bar under a pavilion. After looking at everything available and reading all the reviews about poor alignment of holes, sub par quality control etc. I decided to buy one of these hoping they were durable enough so that I could purchase 5 more. The stool arrived quickly (2 days) in a box that was surprisingly small and I was certain there was no way a whole stool was inside. Amazingly it all fit neatly inside the box and everything that should have been there was. Assembly was ridiculously easy, and like previous reviewers have noted the easy way to assemble was install all bolts and nuts and then once completely together tighten the bolts and screws while placing weight on them and then to alternate sides to ensure uniform assembly. It takes about 10 minutes to assemble one stool, feels very solid, adequately padded and should be perfect for bellying up to the bar this summer. The only improvement I could suggest would be a half dozen color options for a little variety.

We now have two of these folding legs stools for 3 year old grandchild to use in the bathroom and in the car to assist climbing into the car seat. Sturdy with a large ribbed vinyl top surface and with easily folded legs to put away when not needed. It has a carrying handle and the child can locate it and set it up when they come to visit. The previous bathroom steps were a second-hand plastic stool that was wide enough and tall enough but didn't have any gripper feet to keep it in place like this one.

I recently moved into an apartment with a toy kitchen. That said, still, at 5'2 I can't reach the second shelves in the cupboards. I didn't need much, just a few more inches. I shopped Amazon and searched and searched, do I get a small ladder type... a 2-stepper... a short one 6-8 inches??? After weighing all the factors I found this little guy who now lives right where he is under the window. its the perfect place to slide left or right to the shelves I need. The step-stool is really sturdy. It's easy to fold up though I never really have the occasion to do that. Sometimes it visits other rooms with an over 6 ft Swede that's over 200 lbs. Sturdy then too, and no worse for the wear... and doesn't even groan. Would buy again myself if I have the need, so it's recommended!

I bought this for an 80 year old family member. She needed it to get up into her adjustable bed. I was very pleased with how sturdy it was! The gripper on the top was so reassuring that she would not slip. The handle makes it so much better for her to have something to hold on to as she steps up or down. The step is adjustable too, that makes it perfect for people of all heights, she is very short, so she was very pleased with this feature. This little step stool is great! Best feature: portability! My kids (4 under 5) love doing as much as possible to help around the house! And ill take all the help I can get. Problem is they can never reach stuff. So this thing is gold. My 4 & 5 year olds can piece of cake carry it to the kitchen & reach the sink. They even did dishes! No guarantee that will happen for you. But it could be a bonus! ;) Anyway, then today they emptied the washer & filled the dryer with its help. And put their clothes away all carrying this little nifty thing around. Now I have like 6, yes you heard me 6 other stepping stools! I have a two step for the potty. The quality of the stool is obvious when you put it together. Sure, there can be imperfections in finish here and there, but the physical construction of the parts is high. This is what I look for. If the quality of the materials is high everything else seems secondary. For the current price of about $40 I have no doubt that this is one of the best quality stools for the money. It has a smooth height adjustment (gas) and does not wobble. It is also comfortable and doesn't take up much space. I am very happy with this purchase.

The good news is that now my 2 year old can reach the bathroom sink by herself. The bad news is that now my 2 year old can reach the bathroom sink by herself. It is nice to not have hold her up while she washes her hands but she really, really, REALLY loves to splash, so the independence is a mixed blessing for me. Anyway, the product review...
I am surprised at how strong this is and how easy to use and how big it is. It folds down remarkably thin considering how large it is. I posted a picture of my 2 little kids on the stool at the same time. They both brush their teeth on it at the same time and have no trouble fitting. No pushing or shoving or fighting either! We have a sink that comes out farther than the cabinet underneath, which makes most stools difficult to use for my tiny daughter. This one is high enough because it has 2 steps and comes out far enough so that she is not hanging under the sink.
Because we have a smaller bathroom, we keep the stepstool on the back of the closet door. It folds up with one hand - literally, one hand - and just hangs right on the door knob. It also unfolds with one hand. Although I read in the product description that it was one-handed operable, I really did not believe it until I tried it myself. When I opened the box, I thought it looked huge and complicated. I looked at the handle that says "open" and I was like, "what do I do with this? It doesn't say what to do." So I just grabbed the handle and lifted it up and the whole thing popped right open. Seriously. That easy. The reason the handle only says "open" is because that is all you have to do. Grab it and pull. Closing is just as simple. Grab the handle that says "close" and pull.
One thing to note for someone who may have problems with strength: it is a little bit heavy and big so keep that in mind if you have problems with that sort of thing. I used to work with the elderly and I know that there were some I worked with that would have had trouble with this.
