Best Office Furniture Casters in 2022

Last update: December 10, 2022

Are all caster wheels the same?

Caster wheels are not all the same. There are different types of caster wheels, each designed for different purposes. The most common type of caster wheels are the swivel caster wheels. These caster wheels are designed to rotate 360 degrees, making them ideal for furniture and other objects that need to be moved around frequently. There are also rigid caster wheels, which are designed for objects that need to be moved in a straight line. These caster wheels are not able to swivel, but they are much more durable and can support more weight.

Are all office chair casters the same size?

No, office chair casters come in a variety of sizes. The most common sizes are 1", 1-1/2", and 2". However, there are also casters available in sizes ranging from 3/4" to 4".

Are bigger casters better?

Are casters standard size?

There is no definitive answer to this question as there is no standard size for casters. Depending on the specific application, casters can vary widely in terms of size and capacity. For example, heavy-duty casters may be much larger and have a higher load capacity than lighter-duty casters. In general, however, most casters range from 2 to 6 inches in diameter and can support up to 500 pounds.

OPTTICO Office Chair Casters Wheels Replacement - Computer Chair MAT for Hardwood Floors Not Needed, Desk Rollerblade Chair Wheels with Soft Rubber Rollers. Best Chair Casters for Wood Floors Review:

I recently finished installing gorgeous white oak wood flooring in a room that will serve as my wife's new office. Her desk chair wrecking the floor was the last thing I needed. I had originally intended to purchase a custom-cut clear vinyl floor mat, but then I discovered these Opttico replacement wheels. The only vendor I encountered who said that the wheels wouldn't mark the floor was theirs. Though skeptical, I placed an order for a set from them. Amazingly, they are worth every penny. Taking off the old wheels was the most difficult part of installing the new ones. Although the wheels themselves feel soft to the touch, it would probably take a knife to cut through the heavy-duty metal components that join the wheel to the chair. They go across any flooring in our house with such ease.It is difficult to pull chairs over medium depth pile carpet very far, thus I used to have two chairs in my office. No longer! Two more pairs were purchased, one for a chair in our guest room and the other for my office. Each of the three chairs rolls easily across carpet, wood, and tile.I couldn't be more pleased with Opttico or the wheels! Oh, and they come with a lifetime warranty if you register them!

Professional Office Chair Caster Wheels Gift Set of 5 - Protect All Your Floors - 3'' Heavy Duty Replacement Rubber Desk Chair Casters - Best Protection for Your Hardwood Floors Review:

November 26, 2018 UPDATEDThe seller emailed me regarding my orders to check if I had got them and to request a review. I replied by referencing this review. As you will see if you continue reading, I wasn't happy. You can browse through and read for yourself in this update, so I won't say it again.I bought one pair for my new chair and another set for a different person. While the second set slid incredibly effortlessly for the person I gave them to, my set felt like the brakes were on. She was fortunately spared my problem, and she was overjoyed.I was ready to wait up to three days for a response after getting in touch with the seller. They returned to me the same day, so I didn't have to. The vendor provided a replacement or refund. I decided to replace them since I enjoy the way the wheels look. In my response to the seller, I stated that if they believed it would resolve my issue, I would want a replacement. The vendor advised against returning the first set of wheels because they would be sending me a new set and refunding my initial purchase price. I was shocked, really shocked. All I wanted was a reimbursement or replacement. Definitely neither. The office chair now has wheels, and they are so well-functioning that practically no effort is required to move it. I've noticed that the steel balls surrounding the stem of new wheels are more lubricated. My new wheels make me extremely happy, and my office chair moves around really easily. You'll see that I gave the goods and vendor each five stars. I hardly ever rate something with five stars. However, the merchant went above and above what I had anticipated. I can't think of anything that needs fixing that would warrant taking away a star.I don't just randomly award five stars. Although the product is high-quality and expertly constructed, a small percentage of the output do have manufacturing issues. Although I did initially purchase the item, customer service has since made it a FREE item. I might be a little bit upset about it, but I think most people would agree that the goods and seller deserve to be given no stars.UPDATE: November 20, 2018 —-Installing the Office Chair Wheels Gift Set of 5 - Protect All Your Floors was something I was looking forward to. Caster Chair Wheels Office Replacement Set of 5 | FIT IKEA Chairs ONLY Rollerblade Style 3 Inch by Clever Casters | No Floor Mat Heavy Duty Protection for Hardwood Tile (10 mm) Review:

BIGGER, LONGER, AND SEMI-CUT:These were purchased for a $400 gaming chair that had lousy wheels and a base that was too low, causing the gas cylinder to scrape my hardwood. Given that they are 3" tall, they are ideal for raising the base higher off the ground and maintaining the excellent condition of my hardwood. The only complaint I have is that I had to drill a bigger hole to accommodate these wheels because the pegs connecting them to the chair base are longer than previous replacement wheels. Since my chair base is plastic, it was rather simple, but if you have a metal chair base, I would STRONGLY advise double- and even triple-checking the length measurements to make sure they are accurate.THE SQUEAKY WHEEL GETS THE GREASE, OR IN THIS CASE LEAVES UNFAVORABLE REVIEWS:The main criticisms I hear for these kinds of wheels generally, but specifically for this item, are that they still leave scuff marks on floors, are difficult to move or cannot rotate, and/or that the ball bearings are subpar and easily fall apart.WOOD IN MOURNING:I can state categorically that these items don't leave stains on hardwood. I don't use and don't need a chair mat, especially not with these wheels. These wheels, which are essentially scooter wheels composed of a soft polyurethane composite, easily glide across hardwood floors. Since these wheels have greater traction than an orthopedic surgery wing at a regular hospital, if your desk area is carpeted, you will likely struggle without the usage of a chair mat.ROLLER AND DEAL:I haven't had any trouble moving around or rotating, unless you're trying to power slide like a brain-dead marmot. That is to say, it will function properly if you tilt the chair just a little such that the wheels are facing the same way BEFORE you move. In contrast, if you just attempt to move in that way with all the wheels pointed in different directions, you will undoubtedly encounter resistance (which is why there are so many people with bent frames and locked wheels). Have you ever attempted to pivot the wheels of a shopping cart before trying to move it sideways? No? You aren't a fool, therefore of course not. You can move from the comfort of your office area like you are participating in a roller derby if you apply the same reasoning to these wheels.BEARINGS, ELEMENTARY MATH, AND FIGHTING OBESITYLast but not least, folks gripe about how rapidly bearings wear out and grease their floors. 500 lbs. is the MAX weight capacity. I am not a genius, but I am knowledgeable enough to recognize a maximum rating on everything and understand that pushing objects to their limitations is not a good idea. Consequently, the weight of your chair is included in the maximum capacity. The majority of gaming seats weigh around 60 lbs, and the majority of business chairs, at least those with wide or high backs, weigh much more. To find out how close to your maximum weight you should multiply your weight by the weight of your chair. For instance, I put 285 pounds of weight on these wheels because I weigh 225 lbs and my chair weighs the same as me. That is almost 60% of what these things are capable of handling. However, if you weigh 350 lbs and your chair weighs 60 lbs, you would be placing 410 lbs (82% ) on the wheels and jackknifing them around your office in an attempt to avoid tipping over. Good luck with that, I suppose. No problems with the bearings or weight capacity have come up for me.LAST RESULTSPROS Doesn't leave scuffs on finished flat surfaces like hardwood Slide nicely Fits most chairs (additional effort may be necessary) fantastic given the costCONS - Obese people will rip these puppies to pieces and blame the manufacturer (overtaxing the weight will cause problems)- Fatties: Pivot Boogaloo, Part 2 (learn to use wheels before posting a bad review)

STEALTHO Replacement Office Chair Caster Wheels Set of 5 - Protect Your Floor - Quick & Quiet Rolling Over The Cables - No More Chair Mat Needed - Blue Polyurethane - Standard Stem 7/16 Review:

Fantastic, high-quality wheels! Worth paying more for these wheels than other options on Amazon. FYI: This company sells sets WITH breaks and sets WITHOUT breaks. Be sure you are getting the right item. My wheels never see the light of day, so the glow in the dark feature doesn't really work for me, but that wasn't the main reason I bought these; instead, I was worried about the quality in comparison to the cheap wheels sold on Amazon, where the tiny ball bearings fall apart (all over your floor) in a matter of days or weeks! These people don't act that way!Through a small portion of a closed window, they can see a very small amount of daylight. When it is truly dark at night and your eyes have grown accustomed to the gloom, it is astonishing how suddenly they begin to glow, much like in the Avatar movie (if you have watched that movie, you will understand what I mean!).

zitriom Premium Office Chair Caster Wheel Universal Standard Size 11mm Stem Diameter X 22mm Stem Length (7/16" X 7/8") Review:

I've always sat in computer chairs (computers are my life, lol) and one thing I've always disliked is how they leave track marks all over the tile floor when the wheels begin to wear out. (The chair's standard wheels make it noisy, too.) I recall seeing replacement wheels that looked like roller blades, but I also saw that many of them were expensive and had issues with the bearings separating (dangerous if there was a baby nearby). Fortunately, I was able to afford this one. It does not require bearings and features a rubber wheel. I'm delighted we bought it because it's reasonably priced (a lot less expensive than the roller blade style wheels) and actually quiets the chair down.On each of the caster wheels, I have observed that one side moves quite swiftly while the other is a touch stiff. I'm not sure why, and I'm not sure if it's intentional, but when I roll about, it doesn't bother me.

ATOMDOC Office Chair Caster Wheels, Newly Revolutionary Quadruple Ball Bearing Design,Heavy Duty & Safe Protection for All Floors Including Hardwood, Set of 5 Review:

We are putting in hardwood flooring and trying to figure out what to do with anything that sits on the floor (like putting felt glides on furniture legs). The two office chairs featured typical hard plastic, dual-wheel casters that needed to be either replaced or covered with a chair mat to prevent damage to the floor.I spoke with the flooring specialists (who are now installing), and they recommended these as a good fit to safeguard our investment. As a result, we placed our purchase, and today they arrived.Because of some of the unfavorable reviews, I tested each caster to make sure it could move freely (it could), and the product feels excellent overall. Due to the superior bearings and bigger wheels, they are heavier than the basic casters. The fit was ideal. These went in without any problems after prying the previous ones out with a normal screwdriver. In the sockets, they could freely spin.Useful usage. When used on a hard floor, they are substantially quieter than the hard plastic casters. Additionally, they feel "soft" in contrast to the skittery feeling of the hard plastic ones.Being seated in the chair causes some resistance when turning the casters because they are not as slippery as the hard plastic ones and there is some drag when turning them on the floor. Although turning the casters feels odd, rolling them seems incredibly free. It doesn't bother me in any way.The major adjustment and the reason we purchased these is to successfully safeguard our substantial investment in the pricey new hardwood floor. Without any hesitation, I suggest using these for that.Overall, I say "yes."

Office Chair Caster Wheels Set of 5 Rollerblade Style Heavy Duty Soft PU Rubber,Protect Your Floor - Quick & Quiet Rolling Over The Cables Review:

I installed these on my Steelcase Leap version 2 office chair in less than 2 minutes, and boy what a difference it makes now that it rolls smoothly across most surfaces, including rugs carpets, and obviously hardwood floors. The casters move rather smoothly, and the wheels definitely appear to be sturdy. The one drawback, in my opinion, is that the bearings are not as buttery-smooth as I would like, but they are still more than sufficient for office chair bouncing; after all, you're not skateboarding or anything. Furthermore, even if I wanted to, there is no way to replace the bearings because the wheels are riveted at the pushed end. Overall, though, it's a significant improvement, therefore I wholeheartedly endorse it. If you move incredibly slowly, it takes roughly 2 minutes, but in reality, it just takes about 30 seconds to complete all of them. There are no special equipment required to remove your old ones; you literally just peel them off and snap these into place.

BF BRIGHTFIELD Universal Office Chair Caster Wheels Set of 5 Heavy Duty & Safe for All Floors Including Hardwood 3" Rollerblade Rubber Replacement for Desk Floor Mats Review:

I purchased a set of these to replace a set of chair casters that were all either damaged, uneven, or unsteady (I assume largely due to wear

Slipstick CB680 2 Inch Floor Protecting Rubber Office Chair Caster Wheels (Set of 5) Standard Stem Size - Black/Gray Review:

They perform admirably! I've had a wonderful office chair for a long time. Scooted from the beginning—never rolled. The floor wasn't important! tile, carpet, or laminate. It had been placed in a spot that got little use, but I wanted to use it in my craft room because it was much cozier than my tiny task chair. I chose these because of the rubbery, supple material. I didn't want to go too cheap and, if possible, I didn't want to pay $30. My previous wheels were easy to take off, and it was simple to snap them back on. The chair rolled after I sat down and set it right. first time ever! I'm extremely pleased with the chair's quality, ease of installation (I'm 66 and didn't need any help from my husband to complete this chore), and of course, how smoothly it rolls! If someone was searching for quality at a fair price, I would most definitely buy from them again or recommend them.

Cakie Soap Dispenser, Touchless Automatic Soap Dispenser, Infrared Motion Sensor Stainless Steel Dish Liquid Hands-Free Auto Hand Soap Dispenser, Upgraded Waterproof Base Review:

This is exactly what I needed, so thanks. I used to keep all of my makeup on open shelves in my bathroom and in zip-top bags. I'm really lacking counter space. I can now keep this organizer in a closet outside my bathroom because it was just so disorganized and ugly looking before. My bathroom looks lovely once more! The organizer is not very large, but it contains my daily makeup essentials. I simply take it, set it on the bathroom floor (did I mention I don't have much counter space), and put on my makeup. One larger drawer below includes a huge eye shadow compact as well as a small eyebrow compact, and the two top drawers each contain one large size bronzer and the other, a large blush. I've dumped all of my eye liners and lip liners in the bottom drawer because the majority of the slots on top are already occupied by stick/tube concealers, lip glosses, and cosmetic brushes. I simply thought it made more sense to toss all my lip/eye liners in the bottom drawer because many of the vertical slots on top are low in height (the items kind of tip to the side). But my eye makeup and blush brushes fit perfectly in the top row of the vertical slots. Hope this is useful!

There's no definitive answer to this question as it depends on a number of factors, such as the type of casters used, the weight distribution of the load, and the surface the load is being moved over. However, a good rule of thumb is that four casters can hold up to about 200 pounds.
