Best Monopods in 2020

Vicdozia Portable Hand Grip Waterproof Extension Selfie Stick Handheld Monopod Adjustable Pole Compatible with GoPro Hero(2018) Hero 8 7 6 5 4 AKASO SJCAM DJI OSMO Action and More Sports Cameras Review:

Its an extension pole, not a selfie stick, extension pole, seriously. Selfie sticks have gotten a lot of hate and some of it justified. As an amatuer photographer/videographer it is a supremely handy tool in my kit.
I had never heard of this company before and i purchased this simply going off of reviews and features. I sat at home and prayed that I had not purchased an extension that smell like warthog feet or felt like it was made of pasta. It was neither of those things.
This is a nice feeling pole. It has a nice heft which add to the whole "not cheaply made" feel. The texture on the shaft is grippy yet comfortable. The end cap is made of metal with a lanyard looped through it. It actually functions wonderfully. It also does not feel like a budget item. The pole extends in the common way of twist - pull - then twist to tighten. The action works well and I didnt have any problem with it getting slack or sliding back in. The tips has a common action cam prongs. I was able to mount my Hero and my Dji Pocket with no difficulties. The sellers ad says that it is waterproof. I cant tell you if it is or not. I have not gotten it wet yet. The length is just enough to get me over the heads of people or low enough to the ground for a follow shot without killing my back, and that satisfies me greatly. I am giving it 5 stars, it is a quality piece of kit for a budget price.

Now if you will excuse me, it feels like I need to take a shower or something.

Waterproof Floating Hand Grip Compatible with GoPro Cameras Hero Session Black Silver Hero 7 6 5 4 3 3+ 2 1. Handler & Handle Mount Accessories Kit & Water for Water Sport and Action Cameras (Orange) Review:

I have been a GoPro user for many years and I am used to taking my GoPro camera wherever I go on vacations. I went to Florida last year and took my camera to the beach with me. Although I had the “floaty back” but I was carrying my GoPro without a handle grip. These cameras are pretty small and carrying them in your hand is a real pain, it is very easy to drop them or even lose them, which I did and returned from Florida without my camera. It cost me few hundred bucks to get another GoPro. When I saw this GoPro selfie stick I knew it will make a perfect grip for my new camera. The handle is a perfect size, it's sleek, extremely lightweight, fantastic non slip grip and comes with a high quality wrest-strap for extra security.

The floaty is also accompanied with some high quality accessories that any gopro user will love to have. Included in the pack are:

1. The ProFloat hand grip

2. A high quality wreststrap

3. A Carabiner

4. A thumb screw wrench

5. A Jhook

6. Long bolt

The grip itself is premium quality, it does not look like the cheap bunch, you can feel that it is a superior quality handle. The orange end capcomes with 2 rubber washers at its upper and lower ends, that makes the hollow compartment of the floaty completely airtight and waterproof which can be used to securely keep your small valuable items including money, keys or other small accessories – giving you complete peace of mindwhen having fun in the water. The bright orangeend cap is also highly visible, it makes it really easy to spot your GoPro when dropped in the water. The hollow compartment of the ProFloat is quite a useful design feature that turns the floatystick to a multifunction handle. Beside using it as a storage for small items, it will keep your GoPro safe on the surface of the water without drowning, but if you are diving deep in the water you can unscrew the orange end cap and let water into the chamber of the float, this will turn your floaty to a natural buoyancy and it will hover naturally under water without forcing its way up to the surface. It's a great handle with a lot practical features and accompanied with high quality accessory kits; if you are the adventurous type like me and always around the beach, or the pool, then you can't go wrong.

Smatree Q3 Telescoping Selfie Stick with Tripod Stand Compatible for GoPro Hero Fusion/8/7/6/5/4/3+/3/Session/GOPRO Hero 2018/DJI OSMO Action Camera,SJCAM,AKASO,Xiaomi Yi and Cell Phone Review:

I purchased this to use with my Ricoh Theta S 360° camera. I wanted a pole that was lightweight, fit in my backpack, and was "twist to lock", without locking latches down the side. This one met all of my needs. It's sturdy but light. The locking is strong enough to hold my camera.

With the tripod attached the lens of my Theta S is about 44" above the ground.
Collapsed with the camera and tripod attached the total length is just under 23".
Collapsed with the camera but without the tripod legs it's under 17" in length.
If short on space, the camera can be pivoted 90° to bring the length to around 11".
See my images for length details.

This pole comes along with some GoPro mount items, as well as a spring loaded, rubber grip phone mount that can easily be screwed on for taking pics with your phone. The phone mount works well with my iPhone 5S.

Manfrotto Element Aluminum 5-Section Monopod, Red (MMELEA5RD) Review:

I was looking for a good monopod to use at my son's band competitions. I needed one that was sturdy, lightweight, was easy to adjust and collapsed small enough to put in my small backpack. Looked at other brands, borrowed some to try from friends, rented. Thought I found the one when I purchased the Promaster Professional MPV432+ Convertible Monopod on sale for about $50 from a local camera store two years ago. I like the Promaster overall. However, the tripod foot is not easy to set up and move in the stands and it was too long and bulky to quickly collapse and toss into a backpack or tote bag. It has a nice case with a shoulder strap but I found myself leaving it home for band competitions because it was one more awkward piece of gear to haul through stadiums. Great piece of equipment that I have found other uses for just not able to use for band competitions at stadiums and post competitions photos on the field.

I saw a review of the Manfrotto Element on youtube. I took a chance ordered it on Amazon. After using it this band season from August to October here is what I think.

Pros - lightweight yet is sturdy, it works well easy to extend and collapse, the strap/handle is a real plus, it helps me hold on while I adjust the height in crowded stands and it is easier to hang on to my camera on windy days. It is easy to use, it just screws into my camera, I extend, adjust the height and I am good to go.

One bonus that I did not notice before purchase is that it comes with a spike that you can screw in for use on grass, I find this is nice for the team photo. Most parents who attend go on the field to shoot pictures of the team after competitions.

When collapsed The Manfrotto Element is short enough to fit into my smaller backpack so one less thing to carry. Now I have a backpack, stadium seat, and blanket and still have a free hand to hang on to my 7-year-old.

Cons- none so far.

As a band mom, I have rented borrowed and I own another monopod mentioned above. The Manfrotto Lightweight Element Monopod works best for my needs when I am photographing band competitions, it is lightweight, sturdy, easy to use, and fits into a small backpack. Well worth it!

Trehapuva Selfie Stick, 19” Waterproof Hand Grip Adjustable Extension Monopod Pole Compatible With GoPro Hero(2018) Hero 7 6 5 4 3+3 2 1 Session, AKASO, Xiaomi Yi,SJCAM SJ4000 SJ5000 SJ6000 More(Blue) Review:

This is an amazing little product. I also own the AKASO V50 Pro and this unit is a massive improvement over the previous products. The camera comes with the same set of accessories as all the other models leaving very few accessories to buy except for maybe a selfie stick or floating handle. The camera is sturdy and, best of all, comes with a waterproof case. Using the camera, the touchscreen is great (even in bright light) and it also has a much smoother operation than any of the previous models. There are a ton of features on this camera including ACTUAL native 4k (not upscaled), still photo, time lapse, self timer, driving mode, image stabilization, angle selection, and slow motion just to name a FEW. The sound on the video files is great (without waterproof case) and the video quality is WAY better than what you're expecting. I've had this camera at the local theme park and water park with ZERO concerns and captured the moments perfectly. The remote control is also much improved over the previous models with no need to connect it to the camera. Just pressing the button immediately gets the intended action. If you are looking to capture action activities, diving, boating, snowboarding/skiing, days at the park, kid's activities, THIS IS THE ACTION BUDGET CAM THAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!

Foretoo Selfie Stick for GoPro,19”Waterproof Hand Grip Adjustable Extension Monopod Pole for Gopro Hero 6 5 4 3+3 2 1 AKASO, Xiaomi Yi,SJCAM SJ4000 SJ5000 SJ6000 (with Wrist Strap and Screw) Review:

Very well built selfie stick. I took this on my 8 month trip to Asia and lasted 90% of the way. It could have lasted the entire trip and much more but I didn’t clean it thoroughly after scuba diving. Eventually, the nut rusted and I could no longer tighten it all the way to lock my GoPro. But this obviously my fault, so please note: rinse it well in fresh water and dry it out before storing.

Pros:
Perfect length
Compact, Light
Durable materials (Lanyard hook, grip, locking mechanisms)
Slick design
Comfortable grip

Cons:
Literally none, unless you want a really long stick, this isn’t it.
Doesn’t float.

After getting back to the states, Foretoo contacted me about a 1-year replacement and I was thrilled! They quickly sent out a replacement. Thank you! I’m so happy since I’ll be going back to Asia for more adventures and I’m glad I got a new one. It’s by far my favorite stick, the length is perfect for my needs, not ridiculously long, and not too short either. Feels extremely durable considering the price. Excellent customer service.

AFAITH TELESIN Upgraded Pole for GoPro, Aluminum Alloy Selfie Stick Tripod with Stable Stand Waterproof Handheld Monopod for GoPro Hero 8/7/6/5/4/ Osmo Action Camera/Xiao Yi Action Camera Review:

Almost return it.
Took out of the box, I could pull out only 3 of 5 sections and it's wobbling too. From picture in the listing, look likes I need to turn to unlock it. I applied a bit of force, don’t want to break it and not sure which part to turn.
Not thing happens so I though I got a defect.
Before I about to return it, just give it another try and ta daa. With a bit more force, now I can unlock all sections and extend it.
The stick looks real nice and high quality.
My point of concern for durability is the smallest section which taking the most beat from every twist and turn to lock and unlock.
I think with care not to over tighten it. It should last.

Mpow Selfie Stick Bluetooth, Lightweight Extendable 31.9 Inch Monopod with Bluetooth Remote Compatible iPhone 11/Pro Max/ XS/Max/XR/X/8/8P/7/7P/6S, Galaxy S10/ S9/8/7/6/Note 10 and More, Black Review:

Purchased this to use on a recent vacation. I was very pleased with it. It was sturdy, yet lightweight to carry. The head that holds the phone folds over into the handle for storage and transport. I slipped it into my coat pocket, or into my wife’s purse, easily. I have a iPhone 8+ and it held the phone securely when the phone was in a light weight case. The telescopic arm extends easily by hand, it remains at the length that you set it at. I never felt like the arm was going to bend or break. For me, it was the perfect mixture of stability, security, light weight, ease of use, and helped us get nice pics!

We were able to get some great photos thanks to the angles the selfie stick provided, allowing us to get the background in the shots. I also used it occasionally to take photos of scenery in a National Park. Being able to get the camera higher in the air created a better view than handheld at ground level, and less work or effort than using a tripod. The Bluetooth button worked flawlessly in triggering the camera shutter every time. I charged it fully the night before we left. We were gone 9 days, I took several hundreds of photos, and never needed to recharge it during the trip.
The only drawback is that to turn off the Bluetooth on the stick, you have to hold down the shutter button for a few seconds, which usually created an unwanted photo that then needed to be deleted. I learned that if I would turn off the phone first that solved the issue. Not really the fault of the product, just a matter of doing things in the correct order.
