Yes, people still make reel to reel tape recorders. There are a few companies that still manufacture them and there are a few people that still use them. They are mostly used by audiophiles and people who are into recording music.
You can use reel-to-reel tape as many times as you want, as long as you don't mind the quality degradation each time you play it.

This is excellent for typical home use! I don't know how well it wears because I use it for straight shot runs then cleanly wound it back up. made extremely good. feels reliable and undoubtedly useful. The clip enables it to be buried in the ground or suspended from a stake or nail. It doesn't have a gear assist to wind it up, but I've had it out to the full 200 feet on numerous occasions and can wind it up as quickly as walking back to the starting spot. When not in use, the handle folds back over to prevent the carriage from unwinding. With its layout and substantial grips, it is quite comfortable to handle. My only complaint is that when the tape line is wound up, the metal doohicky on the end has nowhere to tuck into or anything. It merely hangs down a few inches. But in no way would that have discouraged me from purchasing it. I would advise every homeowner.

Mine was packaged in a printed product box and sold by Cute Gift Store through Amazon (see customer images to the right of the reviews). I paid 10.95.Let me first clarify what this IS NOT. It is not intended for precise measurement of small amounts, such as wood shavings, or in situations where a hard edge accurate measure is needed. Purchase the shorter steel measures for that with a hook edge (sometimes referred to as a zero hook edge), a curved, lengthy standout ability (10–11 feet), and stud markings. Certain even have increments of 16ths of an inch, but if you ask some experts, they would tell you that it is not essential; you should simply measure between increments.This is a Chinese-made 100-foot/30-meter tape measure (says so on the box). ABS plastic is used to make the case. The plastic reel is linked to a metal winder via the reel (this is fine; see next paragraph). It has a detachable strap you may use to hold the case while removing the tape or clip it to your belt. The case has a 6 inch diameter. The tape is one and a half inches wide. Think of a fragile, fiber glass seamstress tape measure for measuring inseams and waists when picturing this tape. If you don't want to read any more of this boring blather, you may go down to the next line and browse customer photographs to the right of the reviews. The surface is white with metric (meters) increments of one-fifth centimeter in black with each meter in red on one side and imperial (feet) increments of one-eighth inch in red with each foot in black on the other. They show the following numbers: 1-11 1F, 1-11 2F, etc. in imperial notation, and 1-9 10 (as in centimeters), 1-9 20, and so on till 1-9 90, 1-9 1m, etc. in metric notation. Mine was 100 feet, 7 inches long in total. With some blank tape remaining, the metric side's print ended at 30 meters, 11 centimeters (a little over a foot).The reel was smoothly and easily released (pulled out). It's unlikely that this tape will stick like many of the cheap steel ones I've used over the years, since I loosely reeled it in and noticed a gap within the case that would have allowed for plenty more tape. I therefore don't see it easily expanding out. I'm okay with the plastic reel because of this. The plastic reel on the steel tape the winder was trying to reel in snapped off, so I'm replacing it.This is ideal for casual use. For the individual do-it-yourselfer on a tight budget, it's more useful for measuring field distance, patio foundation, etc., especially if you don't want the open-reel measures. Flimsy steel tapes are more resilient and less likely to stretch over time, but they also have a higher chance of rusting, sticking in the case, cutting your fingers, smacking your face as you reel it in, and making that nasty whipping noise (oh, that horrible whipping noise — and, the slapping thing is bad, too).

It is a 300' inexpensive tape. Nothing special. However, it does so effectively. Although I cannot imagine a professional depending on this to make a living, it is ideal for someone who uses it occasionally while working around the house. I fully extracted the tape, which extends to 300', and I had no trouble winding it back. The tape did somewhat stretch, but it's nothing to be overly worried about.
