Best Makeup Blenders & Sponges in 2020

BEAKEY 4+1Pcs Makeup Sponges with Powder Brush, Foundation Blending Sponge for Liquid Cream and Powder, Professional Beauty Sponge Blender & Kabuki Brush Review:

I have intense, frustrating rosacea and flushing. I use a full coverage foundation that does a great job of reducing the red appearance without looking like caked on makeup. I am so happy to have found these sponges as they help to apply/smooth out the foundation to a very natural appearance. Highly recommend. Definitely watch a few online videos for best application techniques.

BEAKEY 5 Pcs Makeup Sponge Set Blender Beauty Foundation Blending Sponge, Flawless for Liquid, Cream, and Powder, Multi-colored Makeup Sponges Review:

I bought these after trying at least three other make up blenders, and these are by far the best. I never tried the original beauty blender because of the high price point for one, but I think these must work just as well, for a fraction of the cost. I tried at least two other similar sponge blenders and they worked pretty well, but with those, 1) I felt like they sucked up a lot of makeup, even damp, and 2) I felt like the sponge broke down and developed "splits" in the foam after only a few weeks. Given the price, I would have been satisfied with that, but then I stumbled upon these almost 6 months ago, and realized I had wasted money on those other products. These are fantastic. Seriously, I purchased these in March -Its now October- and I still have one left in the package, and only just started using the 4th one so I have a while to go before I'm out. I'm purchasing a new set right now though, which made me think to write this review.

I believe some people use these dry, but I always use them wet; I think it helps with not sucking up so much make up to use a damp sponge. I also think it helps really blend the foundation into my skin (I tried those silicone ones and bleh! It was like mopping makeup all over my face, I could not get the makeup to blend smoothly!). I also think it helps to keep my face looking moisturized throughout the day. I have problem skin, with hormonal acne around my period, and cystic pimples that come out when I'm stressed (which is often) and I use a lot of strong treatments on my face (salicylic acid, benzyl peroxide, tea tree oil, etc.) that can result in drying, peeling skin, and I feel like this sponge helps apply over these areas smoothly. I also tend to end up with scabs and think that the sponge also does a reasonable job to help camouflage these spots with concealer.

I use the sponge each morning to put on my liquid foundation and sometimes concealer. I use an antibacterial gel soap (from bath and body works!) to gently work out the old makeup every day; it takes about 30 seconds, and it cleans up, almost like new each time. The only reason why I switch every 4-6 weeks is because the sponge will eventually develop cracks from daily use and cleaning, which doesn't allow the makeup to apply as smoothly. What is kind of strange is that I noticed that the pink ones seem to hold up and clean up much better than the other colors. Maybe that is just a coincidence.

Overall, at $2.00 a sponge, I could not be happier. I have encouraged my sisters to purchase these, and encourage anyone reading to purchase as well. I really don't know how I ever applied makeup with my fingers!

Artist's Choice Makeup Sponge Mini Applicator Wedges (100 Count) Review:

These makeup sponges are phenomenal. I love the size as they are not too big and don't seem wasteful yet are big enough to cover the face thoroughly. I go through makeup sponges fairly quickly as I do not reuse them and I love that this pack comes with plenty of them. Amazing to apply foundation. Perfect for highlighting and contouring. I will reorder again and I highly recommend another note is it is wonderful that these do not have a smell and do not have a chemical coating. These are clean sponges!

Premium Beauty Sponge Makeup Blender (Set of 5) for Powder, Concealer and Foundation Applicator - Makeup Sponges for Cosmetic Blending Review:

Update: unfortunately when I got to use a few other sponges, I noticed that they had little holes in them, looks like from shipping unfortunately:( but Amazon corrected the mistake and are sending me new ones! Great customer service!I These are great beauty blenders! They’re a perfect size and are super soft. I really like the color selection, the colors are vibrant. Great value for 5 blenders compared to other name brands and seem to work just as good! I actually prefer the feel of these, when damp, on my face compared to other well known brands. You really can’t go wrong with these! Fast shipping, item as described and will be buying again!

EcoTools Perfecting Blender Duo, 2 Beauty Sponges for Flawless Foundation Coverage Review:

So.. for all these years of wearing make up (talking 10+ years), I've been applying my foundation with my fingers/hands. I've tried a brush before but they always left streaks. Maybe I was using terrible brushes.. Anyways... I wanted to learn how to do a really awesome smokey eye on and ended up in a downward spiral of makeup tutorials and found that most of these women are using a beauty blender to apply their makeup.. So I thought, EH.. what the hell?! So I looked around and I liked this one the best because it's got two sizes (I also like the colors but that's not really a product detail to focus on), as well as the two different flat surfaces on them to help get in close to those hard to reach places like under your eye and in the corners of your nose.

I HAVE TO SAY.. I've been doing things wrong all this time. My first day using these and my makeup is FLAWLESS. I mean, literally flawless. I'm astonished by the coverage, the dewy finish from the damp sponge mixing with the foundation. I am now able to blend my cream blush properly on my cheeks too! It hides my fine lines and doesn't soak up the product! My makeup game is FOREVER CHANGED. It doesn't look cakey, it goes on so smooth and you feel like you're barely wearing anything.

This isn't the original beauty blender but I like the two for the price because one OG blender is about the same price as these. Also, I was in CVS the other day and they had the TINIEST beauty blenders and I thought they were adorable. Just throwing that in there LOL

Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge (Set of 4) Latex-Free Makeup Blender Review:

I was a little concerned that these sponges might be fake or not the same quality as the ones I’ve purchased at Ulta but they are the real deal, and feel exactly the same. They’re even the same orangish color. This price is the best I’ve seen except for the very occasional sale at Ulta, and I will continue to order them from Amazon.

As for the quality of Real Techniques sponges...I won’t ever use anything else. I can’t believe what a difference they’ve made in covering up undereye circles and bags and evenly applying foundation.

I also just learned on YouTube about washing them in a lingerie bag in the washing machine. I tried that today for the first time and the sponges came out perfectly, almost like new.

Real Techniques Mini MC Beauty Sponge (Set of 4) Latex-free Makeup Blender Review:

The little sponges are great to have. I don't know why they're called eraser sponges because I've never used them to fix makeup mistakes but rather apply product to a small area... under eye concealer, around the nose, blemishes, concealer on my chin, etc. You could even use it to apply highlight to your cheekbones. It's the same material and texture as the larger sponges and are identical to the minis in the multi-sponge set. I like that I can now purchase them separately.

Bear in mind that RT sponges tear a little more easily that BB brand sponges so be gentle when washing. But for the price, it's a steal and great tool to have in your kit.

Aesthetica Cosmetics Beauty Sponge Blender - Latex Free and Vegan Makeup Sponge - For Powder, Cream or Liquid Application - One Piece Review:

I love these sponges. They do grow in size under water and blend my make up the best out of the other sponges I've tried. The only thing I can tell that people might not like the sponge is that it isn't as dense as some of the leading sponge like the famous "Beauty Blender" you can get from Sephora, this is because when you have a less dense sponge (more soft) the sponge will soak up more product than the sponge that is more firm and doesn't take that much product from the face. This is a double edged sword to me though because the more firm the sponge the more difficult it is to blend the foundation or any product smoothly because it feels like it just moves the product around more than melting smoothly into the skin.

For me, a softer sponge that's easier on the face when "bouncing" the sponge around your skin is more ideal. Yes, it may soak up a bit more products but its minimal and much easier to clean. This is because its more porous and the bubbles in the soap help the makeup come out of the sponge when cleaning therefore it lasts longer than the more firm ones which trap foundation into them making them more "germ-y." For the price, you cant beat it, I've repurchased these several times, tried other sponges that were supposed to be higher quality and I always find myself coming back to these. Any questions. I have no life and would love to answer lol thanks.

JUNO & Co. Microfiber Velvet Sponge, Latex-Free, Dual Layer Technology, Flawless Makeup Blender for Foundations, Powders and Creams (4 Velvet Sponge Bundle) Review:

After reading a lot of the low rated reviews there a few things I thought should be mentioned. I recommend cleaning any sponge before the first use. It will get rid of packaging smells and any lasting dye that hasn’t washed out prior to packaging. (That covers like 30% of the negative reviews)

This sponge is NOT like a beauty blender. I don’t understand why people use this sponge and expect it to work like a beauty blender. It works best with liquid makeup when slightly damp. It doesn’t sheer out the product like a damp beauty blender, but rather builds the product similar to a brush. I find the best results (when using it for foundation) by getting it wet, then squeezing into a towel to keep it soft but pretty dry; dab the product (foundation) onto your skin with a finger first, and blend it out with the sponge. That method works great for under eye concealer too.
Another method is to use it dry to apply powders: blush, highlight, contour powder, under eye setting powder.... actually, any setting powder. It doesn’t move foundation or concealer when using it to apply powder on top AS LONG AS YOU USE A LIGHT HAND. If your banging the sponge into your face, it’s not going to blend well or look good.

I can do almost all of my makeup using only this sponge. I clean it after every use, causing it to be very easy to clean with only a sponge soap and warm water. (That covers like 60% of the negative reviews)

Lastly, if you follow the very clear instructions on how to clean the sponge, it won’t break or rip easily. You should really clean the sponge after/before every use. You shouldn’t use anything to clean it other than soap and water. Like that little pink silicon thing that comes with a beauty blender solid, Don’t use that. You’ll tear up the soft stuff on your sponge. Product doesn’t really get fully absorbed into the sponge like a beauty blender so you don’t need to beat the little guy up to clean it. (And that covers the last 10% of the negative reviews).

Hope this helps. It’s a good versatile sponge and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an alternative to BRUSHES. Just clarifying, it’s not a beauty blender. Don’t expect it to be one.

beautyblender original: The Original Makeup Sponge for Foundations, Powders & Creams Review:

Great addition to my makeup kit since it's basically a multi-tasking sponge. Immediately fell in love with it. My main use for it is foundation and concealer and it has a fantastic application. Really airbrushed finish, no creasing, and really soft when bouncing it on the face. It is best when used damp, even for powders. It's a bit tough to clean since it picks and holds quite a bit of product, but I use baby shampoo and it works wonders plus definitely cheaper than the solid/liquid cleanser they sell. A bit of dye can come out while cleaning but it's very typical of the sponge and the color doesn't stick to anything (so if you clean it and use it on your face, don't worry the dye won't stick on you or mix with your makeup). Also 100% cruelty free and vegan~

As for those who are worried about getting fake ones on amazon, there's a list of authorized dealers on the beautyblender website (which I used to tell who are legit sellers on amazon such as Lock & Mane, reference beautyblender's e-partners page as well) and of course I got a real one.

Update for 12/9/2017: After going through 3-4 beautyblenders (I replace them every 6 months or so for sanitary reasons), this is still my staple beauty sponge. Quality is still great. Only thing I have to note after all this time is that over time it gets slightly stiffer (it's still quite soft when damp) and easier to rip if you're not super gentle with washing (my error but still wanted to make note). But for $20 for 6 month use, at least for me, it's worth it and I swear by it to this day.
