For years, I used an IKEA magnetic knife holder and enjoyed having easy access to all of my kitchen implements. I recently moved into a new home, therefore I had to seek for a replacement very away because I had to leave my old one behind. My main concern was whether or not this magnetic knife holder would be able to support all of my blades. Instead of making the 1.5-hour drive to the closest Ikea, I chose to try this holder. Installation went smoothly. I had to firmly pry the back plate piece apart from the magnetic front piece after unwrapping the item. I affixed the magnetic holder to the side of my stainless steel refrigerator to test it. The magnet holder began to slide down somewhat due to the weight of two chef's knives. I knew that using the side of the refrigerator as a knife holder would not be practical for me. So, using the two wall anchors and crews that were provided, I secured the back plate to the walls underneath my cabinet. To conceal the hardware, the front magnetic is then placed over the back plate. The huge cleaver and eight knives fit perfectly, as you can see. I should also mention that the three longer blades (the chef's and Santoku knives) slid down just a bit but remained attached to the magnet. The powerful magnet prevents the bulky meat cleaver from even moving. I'm overjoyed with this purchase.

The magnet is really powerful. Due of the limited space I have to mount them, I ordered two tiny bars. On my tile backsplash, I ultimately mounted one with Gorilla double-face tape. (Read the Gorilla tape application directions before applying the tape. It will prevent you from having to rip the tape off again. The other one, which I had intended to attach to the side of a cabinet, was instead successfully magnetized to the side of my microwave. Although it sounds like it would be quite simple to install that way, I didn't end up utilizing either of the mounting solutions as provided, so I can't speak on that. I'm very happy I bought them because they are operating fantastically the way they are mounted.

My knives and utensils have been kept hanging thanks to this, which also saves room. My 8-inch chef's knife and 7-inch hefty cleaver can both be held securely by the magnet thanks to its strength. Just make it longer, please. A 1/4" drill bit is required to properly put the plastic mounting attachments into your walls, but mounting is simple.Cons: With repetitive attachment and removal of blades, the stainless steel surface will acquire minor scratches. Similar to this, if you pull your knife across the magnet surface when removing it, the knife surface may scrape depending on the material it is made of. Be careful not to harm your tools. This was purchased to address the problem of sharp knives in areas where they could cause cuts and dull the blade. To make it easier on the edge should that come in contact first, a magnetic bar in the style of wood was chosen. All of my knives adhere to it beautifully, including my large butcher's knife, though I don't keep it there because it takes up too much room.It was a headache to mount. Of the two I stood up, I stuck one, and I'll be honest—I don't think it will survive me dragging it down and moving with it (I'm currently a renter).
