Do law students use legal pads?

Most law students use legal pads to take notes during lectures and seminars. The pads are usually A4 size and have a margin on the left-hand side for the student to make notes. The paper is usually lined with a margin as well.

Do legal pads have to be yellow?

No, legal pads do not have to be yellow. While the color yellow is often associated with legal pads, any color of paper can be used for taking notes or drafting documents. The yellow legal pad became popular in the late 19th century when it was introduced by the British company J.A. Birchall & Co. The company claimed that the yellow color was easier on the eyes than white paper and that it prevented show-through when writing on both sides of the page.

Do you use both sides of a legal pad?

I never really thought about it before, but I guess I do use both sides of a legal pad. I never really thought about it before, but I guess it makes sense to save paper.

How many lines are on a legal pad?

A legal pad typically has about 70 to 80 lines.

TOPS Prism+ Writing Pads, 5x 8, Perforated, Jr. Legal Ruled, Narrow 1/4 Spacing, Assorted Colors, 2 Each: Pink, Orchid, Blue, 50 Sheets, 6 Pack (63016) Review:

I bought these writing pads to help me become more organized at work and at home.I anticipated the colors of these writing pads to be wrong and boring after reading the reviews. But in my opinion, they are absolutely not drab; instead, they are vibrant and brilliant! Two of each color—pink, purple, and blue—was given to me.The cardboard back is strong and sturdy, and the paper weight is better than expected (colored and lined on both sides of the page). This makes it simple to write while standing or on an uneven surface.I am satisfied with my purchase and would advise anyone looking to buy a half-sized legal pad to do so. When you can write on these colorful surfaces, why stick with white or yellow paper?

Ampad 20-208 Evidence 3" x 5" Narrow Perforated Writing Pads - White (12 Pads of 50 Sheets Each) Review:

Who would have thought that these tiny, straightforward notepads would eventually disappear? I had to look far and wide before I found these notes after utilizing them for years and years. They are no longer sold in any grocery, drug, or office supply stores! Who is to blame? Is this because using a pencil and paper to make lists and take notes has genuinely become outdated in the age of technology? Or perhaps it's because handwriting isn't taught in schools anymore? These little lined notes are exactly what I was looking for, yet I have to worry. They are perforated on top and have lines on both sides for easy removal. I'm so grateful to Amazon for saving the day once more because as I get older, I have to rely more and more on notes and reminders to myself.

AmazonBasics Legal/Wide Ruled 8-1/2 by 11-3/4 Legal Pad - White (50 Sheet Paper Pads, 12 pack) Review:

I've only recently started using these because my other legal pad is nearly empty. I've read reviews that claim the paper is quite thin and the backing is weak and unsupportive. While accurate, this is exaggerated. Although the cardboard backing is thinner than that of my other legal pad, it still offers adequate support. While held off the table, it is a touch fragile, but when on the table, it is sturdy.Although the paper is thin, I have so far had no problems writing on it. On the other pad I have, my Pilot G-2 0.38 rollerball pen functions exactly as well. When I flip the paper over and place it beneath the pad, there have never been any problems with it ripping. I can't comment on it because I haven't torn any pages yet.Overall, I'm satisfied, especially considering the cost. You will need to buy something else, but it will cost more, if you require something thicker or more supportive. You truly can't top this for less than $1 per pad. For the same money I spent for 12 pads, I could go to Office Depot and buy only 2.

TOPS The Legal Pad Writing Pads, 5" x 8", Jr. Legal Rule, Canary Paper, 50 Sheets, 12 Pack (7501) Review:

These pads have impressed me. Your amount of pleasure, based on what I've seen in the comments, probably relies on how you plan to use it and how much common sense you have. Since these are regular notepads and not Gold notepads, they are constructed of 16 lb paper, have a thin backing, and are coverless. So, it would be absurd and plainly not what they were intended for to expect them to survive rain, markers, and wear and tear. These pads are best used as a refill in a padfolio (longer term) or a clipboard (short term) when you need to quickly and conveniently record or communicate handwritten information, such as in a briefcase or when you're going to a meeting. The thin backing and 16 lb paper keep the pad from becoming too thick so that it may fit into a case with a laptop, books, or other carry-on items. If the pad were too thick, paper would have to be completely abandoned. In contrast to a spiral bound notebook, a padfolio or clipboard is used for a brief length of time and is frequently one-sided. The padfoilio prevents the oages from curling or getting wet, thus there is no need for a cover to do that. The user is able to spend money on a thin, protective leather casing and inexpensive refills. The paper on these pads is also quite smooth, which is another feature I adore. I feel as though I am treating myself when I use them and the Sanford Jetstream pens. Additionally, because I typically type rather than write by hand, I appreciate that there is less hand tiredness and drag to slow me down and cause sloppy handwriting. These pads are therefore excellent for demanding use provided under a protective cover. Pay more for 20 lb paper, a thick, rigid backing, and/or a cover if you want the pad to offer protection. They cost $2 each instead of $1 each. These are a wonderful price if you're searching for a perforated, staple-bound pad for your padfolio that is thin enough to carry around and smooth enough to enjoy writing on.

arbitrary user evaluation of fountain pens. I've had wonderful success with this paper; I literally have everything from it and 20lb copier paper to "you name it." I have way too much paper (enough to last a lifetime), which many others involved in this "passion" would completely understand. The TOPS Gold is suitable for fine to medium nibs, depending on the pen and ink used. Even so, expect very inconsistent results when using it for extra fine, broad, or double broad. Along with 20lb copy paper, this is the paper I use every day. This paper is simply too rough; I only have one extra-fine nib (a Sailor 1911L), and it performs poorly with it. But that should go without saying. Useful broads include coarse and double broads, but expect feathering, etc. This paper works nicely for notes, work, etc., and I've ordered it in both sizes several times.I will use better paper or a notepad if I am writing a letter or anything else that I plan to save.

TOPS The Legal Pad Writing Pads, 5" x 8", Jr. Legal Rule, 50 Sheets, 12 Pack (7500) Review:

ADVANCED Nov. 20, 2014: These pads have been in my possession for approximately four months, and I have to admit that I now adore them even more than I did when I initially bought them. I genuinely adore the rigid cardboard back, however please be aware that only the "Premium" and "Ultimate" models come with the stiffer cardboard back. Also take note that the 20 pound paper is only available in the "Ultimate" editions, although it is still quite excellent. Therefore, there is no question that the "Ultimate" version of these pads is remarkable; yet, since less expensive legal pads may be bought for significantly less money but of lower quality than these, it will be up to each individual to decide if they are worth the price. Please take note that this review is just for the TOPS Docket Gold Writing Tablet, size 8.5" x 11". This is of the highest caliber. Even though the cardboard back is sufficiently strong to be held in one hand while using the other to write without the use of a clipboard, the entire tablet and cardboard back might be bent with deliberate effort. In other words, while it is not unbreakable, it will undoubtedly endure until all of the sheets have been used.A VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: THE "EVERYDAY," "PREMIUM," AND "ULTIMATE" ARE DIFFERENT. Although I can't confirm it because I didn't purchase the "Everyday" or "Premium" variants, it does seem that they utilize the thinner paper. The cardboard back is the only distinction between the Everyday and Premium that I can make. Stronger is the Premium version. Since I would either be using a clipboard or writing directly on the desk, I gave up caring much about the cardboard back. Therefore, the thicker paper was the reason I chose the "Ultimate" edition rather than the stronger back.Paper thickness and quality: The paper does feel thicker than the majority of typical legal pads and notebooks, yes. When I flip through it, it actually feels like two pages, but I keep licking my thumb and middle finger to try to separate them. Therefore, until you get used to it, it literally feels like you are holding two pages in your hands. Do not misunderstand; this is not excessively thick. It will be foldable, ripe, and cuttable. It is not very thick "resume" paper or even card stock, but it is visibly thick. To prevent their fountain pen from bleeding through to the next sheet of paper, many consumers who have reviewed this product have cited the necessity for thicker paper. I don't currently use a fountain pen, but I do use a very expensive gel rollerball pen that has a very thick ink layer. Even when I take a break from writing and the ink builds up a little bit at that spot, the ink has never seeped through to the following page. The only time my black ink appears on the back of the page is when I pause while writing, but even then, a "shadow" of the lettering can be seen through the page. This indicates that you can, in my opinion, write on both sides if necessary without too much difficulty. However, my thickly applied black ink still somewhat shows through the page. The blue ink for each line and the red double line in the left margin don't seem to have any of those "blotches," where the ink allegedly spills during manufacture and leaves tiny spots of ink on the paper. I've looked through a number of the pads, but nothing similar has caught my eye. I find the whiteness to be the perfect brightness—not as brilliant as a TV preacher's teeth, but also not too dark.Paper tearing at the spineThe paper separates off the spine with ease. This is due to the location of the perforations, which are next to the page's "binding" at the top. Therefore, you don't have to rip it out of the "binding" when you tear it. Just below the binding, it rips. This is also quite convenient because if you want to save the pages you've written on after you turn them over, you simply slide your finger across the perforation to keep them out of the way and prevent them from flopping back down as you write on the following sheet. My gut feeling is that they will remain in place even after being folded at the perforation and being repeatedly flipped back and forth when using the tablet. I have not used them long enough to know if folding at the perforation will eventually cause the pages to start tearing on their own. I hope this paragraph adequately explains what I mean.In conclusion, it all comes down to how much you're willing to spend on the heavier paper. I'm an electronics designer and computer programmer, and I still like to write practically all of my notes by hand. I must save these notes for use in the future when upgrading the systems. I am glad that I paid the extra money to purchase the thicker paper. Furthermore, I might not even need to buy a 12-pack of these that frequently; maybe just once every six months or so. The $8 or so every six months won't break me, even though the price difference (now $11.59 for the Everyday and $19.69 for the Ultimate) is much different as a percentage. I won't hesitate to buy the Ultimate edition again and keep using these pads.
